So I'm definitely going to do what I did with Super MNC and use real money and just buy all the stuff I want to use right out the gate.
Haven't touched Blacklight since then.

Preview: Going free-to-play with Blacklight: Retribution
Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Zombie Studios creative head and lovely beard owner Jared Gerritzen to look at the new, free-to-play Blacklight game. When I say “Blacklight,” you might think of Jim’s less-than-glowing Blacklight: Tango Down review, and when I say “free-to-play,” you probably stop listening, but you should totally keep listening! Blacklight: Retribution is indeed a follow up to Tango Down, but it’s a decidedly different game than its predecessor. The intent is to set the standard in the free-to-play shooter realm: high visual fidelity (powered by Unreal Engine 3), consistent new content, and no “pay to win” gating off of items. Coupled with a high level of customization and standout gameplay features, like giant robots, Retribution seems to have a much clearer direction this time around and at the entry price of no dollars, it’s worth giving a shot.
Blacklight: Retribution (PC)
The next patch will see an experience boost given for taunting killed opponents, as well as a sort of holographic overlay to some of the taunts; that is, a taunt where your avatar puts his hands over his head and draws out a rainbow will actually create a rainbow. There are even taunts that can do damage, like the shoryuken-style flaming uppercut, or the crane kick. As for tags, they cannot be bought, save for two: “Mr. Moneybags” and “Deep Pockets.” Priced at $50 and $100 dollars respectively, these unique titles let everyone know just how swag you really are, like that banned $1000 “I Am Rich” app that used to be a thing.

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)I played a little bit of this at PAX, and have been periodically playing since Open Beta. It's a pretty solid game, but I'm bothered by how everything either requires money or a load of patience and XP to get, which means that the "character customizing" probably won't be feasible for me until I'm like level 25 or something. Here's hoping they kinda balance that a bit, because not everybody's gonna be playing several hours a day to get the new stuff. I find the games graphics to be poorly optimized. Couldn't play this game maxed out with my i7 920 4.0ghz oc + GTX 570 SLI, when I can easily max out BF3 with 60+ FPS. Let's be honest these graphics can't hold a candle to battlefield 3's. There's a problem here. been playing this for a week straight now. its a solid fps. play domination, you level faster and its far more friendlier than deathmatches. downloaded the demo a while ago and I'm loving it, but yeah, I just don't have the patience to sit and try to accrue the in-game currency/xp/whatever needed to get the weapons and shit I want to use.
So I'm definitely going to do what I did with Super MNC and use real money and just buy all the stuff I want to use right out the gate. I joined the Beta for Tribes Ascend and Blacklight Retribution at the same time, played Blacklight for a few days, then tried Tribes Ascend.
