You have to remember, Todd Howard honestly doesn't know why anyone would even want to play Skyrim in first person. They couldn't make a combat system like Dragon's Dogma in a million years. The same could be said for Dark Souls, which already surpassed all WRPG combat systems by a large, large, largeeeeeeeeeee margin.
This is basically my most anticipated game of 2012, and should easily be in the running for GOTY.
I meant THIRD person*
Curse you edit button. I will hunt down your children and wipe your seed from the earth.
also not to much was said about the controls. or how it "plays". hows walking around, is it slow, can you jump, do you get caught on stuff while trying to walk up mountains, what about interiors? any caves, big castles, fortresses etc? can you pick up items and stuff in the world, how much interaction is there. any crafting etc?
"Basic attacks come off quickly, whether it be sword slashes or spell casts, but the harder, meaner ones take time,"
light and heavy? or do the heavy attacks have a wait timer, or do they take time to set up? how does all this work?
cant wait to see more of this.
Thanks for the info man.
Well, if it doesn't get released for Pc i'm gonna play it on my xbox.
Day one, day one.
One thing from DD that I like is that you still have the ability to pick up objects but they're more streamlined compared to other wrpgs, you get only 2 functions: Grab and Toss (well or consume if it's food), but the simple function adds quite a few unique gameplay mechanic and possibility to the system.
Good preview, Dale.
Your right, somehow my critique on this article generalizing and sensationalizing turned into I am a wrpg basher
Dragon's Dogma is it! I'm getting such a huge 90's anime boner from watching it. Everything is straight out of Record of Lodoss War, Slayers or Berserk when I look at it.
For me, I dont wanna get suckered into another Witcher 2 nor a SxT Capcom fiasco. Ill wait for reviews and shit like Disc Locked Content or Downloadable Content whichever capcom has decided to provide with their fabulous service.
So more on topic, can't wait for the demo and release.
Having watched way to many streams and having read way to many interviews, previews etc. I consider myself well informed.
Taking facts and ignoring opinions. I can only conclude I will enjoy this game greatly. Sure it has it's lesser sides, but nothing to terrible imo.
I am just going to assume you didnt read any of my posts because if you didnt I can excuse your ridiculous post
I, for one and like many others here, am happy to see more and more journalists say how this game snuck up on them, surprised them, or sucked them in. It looks great, refreshing, different, and fun, and the increased coverage it's getting gives me hope it'll sell well and take some of the fear of foreign developers creating new IP vs doing r sequel after sequel. And that's all that matters to me.
Let me make this clear to you. I mentioned it in 1 sentence in my original post which was not my main focus, and then other people are so determined to insist it is. I dont care.............
Stop making everything about you.
@ article
Dale you made a great preview although some silly baseless comments on DMC were made. I'm really looking foward to see if this game will be the RPG that will rip me away from Dark Souls.
I dont blame them, insecurity breeds lazyness........remember I never responded to anyone in this topic and attacked there view. It all started when everyone attacked mine. So who exactly is so adamant here?
Not me
But at least someone has the brains
Even if it lacks one of Monster Hunter's key attractions, it looks to be a ripping good time, almost like a party-based (and thoroughly de-Salvatorized) Kingdoms of Amalur:Reckoning.
No joke.

"What would you classify the game as - RPG, Action or Action-RPG?"
"The definition of a genre is slightly different for each country, so I am not sure how Dragon’s Dogma should be classified. In America this is probably called an “RPG” and in Japan it is called an “action-RPG”. We sometimes call this game “open world action” as we hoped that this game is thought of as the action-RPG that Capcom, which excels at producing action games, can deliver to gamers across the world."
There! It's an RPG. It's an Action RPG. It's an "Open World Action" game. Everyone is right.
Maybe this pointless quibbling over labels could have been avoided had the game merely been called awesome or some other fitting discription and been left at that.
Dragon's Dogma has the open world of an Elder Scrolls title with the deep considerations you have to make while playing Dark Souls (or you'll obviously die horribly). As such, I think I'll like this RPG quite a bit.
@Stealth - I think telling people to "STFU" is somewhat on the cusp of personal attacks, particularly when phrased with "I'm only going to say this once" (which tends to imply some kind of threat, even if its a laughable internet-based one I can't take seriously).
Your post only proves you are
Yet again you gotta love the brains exhibited by the destructoid members for them carrying on about an opinion of an opinion and being totally insecure......
