So, I'm one of those people who considers Nine Inch Nails to be one of their favorite artists of all time. To take that a step further as a musician, Trent Reznor is one of the most inspiring people in the world to me. It looks like Inverse Phase would agree, as he's just released his Kickstarted project that was funded last year (before it was cool), Pretty Eight Machine.

Recorded on eight 8-bit systems configured to the sound bytes of games and consoles (like the Metal Gear 2 and Castlevania 3 cartridges, for example), Pretty Eight Machine is a complete re-imagining of Nine Inch Nails' first full-length LP, Pretty Hate Machine. Not only is the title of the chiptune record appropriately named, but each song's title is themed around computer lingo. My personal favorites have to be "Head Like I/O" and "Downloadin' It". The actual music itself delivers equally as much, of course. The whole thing is absolutely brilliant.

There's just something so refreshing about popular music making the jump over to 8-bit and how well it translates over. Remember those Daft Punk 8-bit remixes called Da Chip? I still listen to those to this day. I'm just going to go ahead and add Pretty Eight Machine to the playlist. Now, can someone make an 8-bit remix of Nine Inch Nails' Year Zero? I would pay so much money for that.

Back in high school my brothers cassette of Pretty Hate Machine got stuck in his car stereo so it was the only thing we could listen to for months. All our money went towards partying so it wasn't getting fixed in a hurry:P although we came up with the money to see them in concert many times.

Ah, my favorite band of all time. Though I have some nitpicks, these are some pretty interesting remixes (particularly Kinda I Want To, Sin, and Ringfinger). Guess I know what album I'm pulling out tomorrow ;)

@BrowneyeWinkin- to each his own I guess but I've loved the majority of his output post-Fragile (also Radiohead is still good). I wasn't entirely crazy about The Slip, but that score for The Social Network won an Oscar for damn good reason. I still hope he keeps making NIN albums once in a while.

Also, we all know that The Downward Spiral is the greatest album of all time :P

Cynic: I LOVE The Slip, basically because it's the greatest hits of NIN wrapped up in new material. And we should be seeing some new NIN soon. Trent has been incredibly cryptic, but 2013 sounds like the return of NIN.

LOL PHM is the best album if you are from the 80s and still live in the 80s and that is about all I have to say. FFS EVERYthing he has done is better than that album. His concert remixes of those songs are better than the album as well. And oh what about those great songs like "That's what I get" LOFL best album ever huh. Broken kills PHM. The Downward Spiral makes it look like a retarded sister and The Fragile wants nothing to do with it. I will leave the rest for others to judge but I'll take any of his albums over PHM and it is not even a contest.

For anyone to even think for a second that TDS is a lesser album than the debut probably means you have no taste.

The Downward Spiral is one of top 100 greatest records of all time and there is no doubt in my mind.

And all that could have beenis by far my favorite NIN album. It's most of his best stuff performed with a level of passion and energy that isn't in the studio versions (note all the extra 'fuck's). Also, since Trent's a master at audio and didn't record it through boom mics, it's the best goddamn live album of all time.

And if you hate Nintendo then it seems we've got bigger problems. I did love With Teeth, though I'd agree it's not quite up there with Downward Spiral or Fragile.

Since all the other geeks are piping up with their opinions, I guess I will too. I loved NIN as a teenager, but as I got older I kind of lost interest. Having to compete with Reznor for the affections of an insane (ex)girlfriend for a brief part of my mid-twenties might have something to do with it, but also as coyotelunaire said, the lyrics started to sound more and more inane to me as time went on. Still, it's kind of sweet to see that people still adore those albums as much as I used to.
