The first new Street Fighter game in about a decade was announced today, and now we have a trailer straight from Capcom and GameVideos, as promised.
The highly stylized video shows Ken and Ryu beating each other down in a moonlit forest setting. It looks more like an animation than anything else, and it doesn't tell us much, but it does a pretty damned good job of getting Street Fighter fans like myself excited. The Hadoken at the end gave me a million nerdy goosebumps.
That's pretty hot. Looks like some kind of cell shading, though. I hope that they stay far away from polygons... that would completely ruin the Street Fighter vibe. Now, if they can make the sprite-based animation that sort of quality, I would pretty much do a cartwheel.
Um, there already IS a new RE coming out, sirpalee. It's called RE5. Get in the loop.
As far as the graphics are concerned... shit. This style would be off the wall ridiculous. I just dunno how good I'd be at playing if I was constantly licking my screen while it was on.
As far as gameplay. Just stick to 2D mechanics. Crazy ass 3D visuals, though... I'm all for 'em.
I love the art style used for the trailer, but I wish they'd have some more game info, like if they're continuing a legendary series or making it a horrible 3d shitfest.........again.
Hey, didn't I say SF4 last time? Seems I was right. Glad to see it after so long, I just hope to god its actually 2D, notice no actually footage was shown. If 3D I hope its a vast improvement of previous PS efforts.
I really wouldn't be totally against it being 3d if not for the EX series being so fucking awful. On the other hand, Capcom HAS proven it can make good 3d fighters (Power Stone, Tech Romancer, Rival Schools, etc) and I doubt that they'd let the official Street Fighter turn out as bad as EX was.
But still, there's not that many 2d fighters out there anymore and I'd love to see a new one that takes full advantage of today's graphics. What better one than a new Street Fighter?
I just don't give a shit about SF, Haven't since Super Street Fighter II. I was hoping the Megaton announcement would be something I would actually play... Or at least care about. It's not. Hence my ambivalence.
