Prepare to envy: the ultimate custom gaming cabinet photo

Put a lot of work into that home-built MAME arcade cabinet, have you? Well, be prepared to hack it into scrap and start over; gaze upon the coolest custom gaming cabinet ever built and tremble.

Gregory over at Apartment Therapy has the skinny on one of the coolest home gaming setups ever rigged, built by his buddy Gerald. Fashioned similarly to Japanese head-to-head-style arcade cabinets designed for competitive gaming, Gerald's rig touts an impressive pair of Sony Bravia 26" LCD monitors, a Dual Core AMD Athlon PC with 2GB of RAM and a GeForce 7960 GX2, and a PlayStation 3. The cabinet has multiple custom joystick setups that can be switched out of the cabinets to accomodate a variety of games, and the whole setup is networked to his main computer.

All that text I just wrote essentially boils down to the most insane home-built competitive gaming cabinet you've ever seen. Hit that gallery for more shots.

how come one guy has a mirror behind his monitor? That seems unfair...

Epoch, yeah, sure. Just pony up the amount of dough needed to fund an undertaking like this one and send it my way. I'll get to work immediately to validate your claim.

hah, I didn't know that was a mirror at all. I just thought that that was another room with another setup.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't need such a badass GPU to power his arcade games... Here here: have my x1600pro and i'll get rid of that huge 7950gx2 for ya :)

I think someone was epoched out of here.
However, I think I should call police for possible robbery on grandmas' savings.

Kinda nice I guess, but it would be nicer if they could see the other opponent, they should have tilted the screens, leaning to each other.

They should build cabinet around this, to really make you feel like your in the game. Something down the lines of what you see in those photo booths at the mall. Then you could have strategically placed speakers to envelope you in blissful sound.

Reminds me of a back-to-back cab I saw one dude on Shoryuken working on:

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=128252

I've seen a lot of great custom cabs, mame or otherwise - but nothing beats a japanese candy cab. Even a back to back Sega Versus City, shits top notch in my books.

Props to the hard work that went into this "cab" but I'm not impressed by it's design at all. It's just a table with a control panel. Not really a cabinet. If I were to count it as a cabinet, the LCDs should be properly mounted withoin a custom housing. This is a halfway done cab.

Very good and simplistic design

I also dream of one day making my own arcade cabinet. I have the spare computer I just need someone to design the cabinet and buy an huge monitor with (4) 6-button joy sticks.

Sigh... One can only dream 8(

i like being next to the person for fighters and arcade games. so i can snuff them in the face after the pwnage. that setup would be great for some 1v1 deathmatch stuff.
