Pre-purchase Plants vs. Zombies on Steam, get a free game photo

With nearly two weeks until PopCap's latest creation, Plants vs. Zombies, is thrust upon the gaming world, I am becoming seriously anxious. Having spent entire summers playing custom tower defense games in Warcraft III, the things are sort of my jam, in case you couldn't tell.

Steam sent out word earlier today about a special offer: if you pre-purchase the game for $9.99, you'll get another $9.99 title, Heavy Weapon Deluxe, for free. Not a bad promo, but I think the real news here is that Plants vs. Zombies is being priced so low; I honestly didn't see it coming.

Ever since Peggle won so many self-proclaimed hardcore gamers over, I think our perception of PopCap has changed significantly. With signs pointing toward Plants vs. Zombies being a damned fine game, are any of you finding yourself saying "casual games suck" less and "holy f*ck, this is so much fun" more and more?

I wasn't really a fan of Popcap until they made Peggle, now I'm a Popcap whore. I'll be getting this.

The thing about Popcap recently is they try to make their games really easy to pick up and play, but have sick challenges and an unusually deep system (like Peggle).

Zombies don't eat plants... this game will be anti-climactic.

I'm a bigfishgames.com kind of guy myself.

A new game a day, they're pretty much always $10 a piece (or less) with an easily found coupon code, and they get games from pretty much every casual site known to man.

And yeah, casual games can often be awesome. Though this site DOES go far to proving that 95% of them are horrible. Some quality titles squeak through on a regular basis, though.

Bookworm Adventures FTW!

Holy crap, that music video is awesome. I need to stop dismissing popcap out of hand, although it would have been nice if I could have ignored it until it was out, now I have to wait.

I'd preorder right now if I didn't already own Heavy Weapon on my 360. Now I can wait for a review and THEN buy it. Or wait an extra month or two for a hot Weekend Deal.

Heavy Weapons? Is that game any good?

Heavy Weapons is OK, it's a side-scrolling shooter where you're a tank at the bottom of the screen and a bunch of planes and helicopters try to bomb you, you shoot the planes and helicopters, get to the end of the level and level-up your powers. It's an OK game but you can find free flash games that are just as good.

Heavy Weapon is awesome just because of the title music. But I already have the Steam version.

I enjoyed Heavy Weapon on 360 - it was one of the first XBLA titles I bought. I can't imagine playing it without a controller though. Just seems kinda made for dual-analog control. Anyone know what separates "Deluxe" from the original?
