After recently being reminded by Darren why Starbound is much more than "Terraria in space," I'm inclined to throw money toward the general direction of the game's developers. With the arrival of pre-orders for this sandbox-style 2D adventure title, fans have the opportunity to do exactly that.
"We're financing the game out of our own pocket and a couple of our team members have had to take on second jobs," reads a response on the Q&A page. "We're hoping the pre-order will allow them to work full time on Starbound and get the game to you quicker!"
$15 gets you a Steam key and beta access this year (Windows, Mac, and Linux) as well as immediate access to the soundtrack. Running down the list, there are more tiers and even stretch goals based on how much money this crowdfunding initiative brings in. Chucklefish has earned around $550,000 so far, to give you a sense of scale. We can't wait to get our hands on this.
