Pre-order Borderlands from GameStop and get eight guns photo

It’s no secret that Borderlands offers players their choice of over a bajillion guns as they progress through the FPS. The game procedurally generates them, like an MMO generates swords or other stabby weapons. Some guns will be better than others as internal dice make a random decision, but this won’t apply to at least eight guns as retailer GameStop is rocking an exclusive.

Earlier this morning, the retailer sent out an e-mail pointing those on its newsletter list to a Borderlands pre-order bonus called the “Mercenary Weapon” pack, which gives pre-orders 8 “unique” in-game weapons to roll with in the shooter.

Available both online and in-store, the bonus will stick around until supplies last, or, you know, the game ships.

with amazon shipping preorder release games as fast as they do,got my copy of demons souls around noon yesterday, i will no longer be buying anything from game stop ever again.
mainly because i dont care about preorder junk,and because gamestop never gives these things out anyway because the employees are thieves and idiots. and they always say they dont have any left. even when i asked how many people preordered and they say 5. so youre saying corporate only shipped you 2 preorder bonus items? BULLSHIT!

Depending on how these eight stack to those that can be found in the game will only mean how long it takes before you finally find something better to replace them. If they're near the top then you might play the whole game and never switch or near the bottom where you'll toss them aside after only a few minutes. Either way its a terrible idea. I would much rather have something stupid yet entertaining like golden spinners or a horn that plays La Cucaracha or something.

I actually asked a GameStop employee (sorry, "game advisor") about this last week, and when I made fun of the fact that 8 out of over a million hardly seems worth the effort involved he said, "yeah, but you get to START the game with these ones!", as if the joy of personally finding more and better weapons wasn't, you know, the main appeal of the game.

This is the stupidest and most useless pre-order bonus ever. In a game with millions of procedurally generated weapons, who cares about these particular eight weapons? Why do they matter?

I prefer actual things as my pre-order bonus. An art cell, a keychain. something I can hold and then watch it collect dust on my shelf. An in-game item has.....limited appeal.

I have a sneaking suspicion that there will be a small percentage of people who will find the exact same guns on the bodies of the first bandits they come across.

Unless they're unique, which is no fun.

Fuck this, I'm getting the Steam version. 5 dollars cheaper is better than 8 guns.

The guns are unique, each character gets 2 of their own unique guns. Normally you start with pistols but this way you get a choice of 2 "real" guns to start with.

But they're still just slightly upgraded starter weapons, so you'll be replacing them the first time you get an item drop. This is the kind of thing that would only hold appeal to somebody that has never even heard of the game but likes the idea of exclusive weapons. :/
