I always thought someone should make a proper instrument tutorial utility type game. This keyboard actually looks like it might impart 'real life' skills.

Lol right?! That's exactly what I was thinking! That Eric Clapton music game (Power Rig?) is doing this same "Realistic Guitar" thing, too. Wonder if Guitar Hero will ever change their ways?

God, I play this game whenever I have friends over, so this news makes me extremely excited. I doubt that I'll be getting the guitar, but the keyboard makes me excited. I'm fairly sure I have a 25-key MIDI keyboard laying around here somewhere, so I may just get that Adapter.

I really hope none of you believe that guitar is required. Surely we all read, no? It's only if you're planning on using the Pro modes. Plus, it's a legit eletric guitar so by musical equipment standards it's not a bad price.

That said it is probably a Squier and you can definitely find better. It'll cost you more ($100 more at least and that's assuming you don't want to spring for a full on Fender or God forbid a Gibson) but it'll be a worthy investment if you really are looking into guitaring.

The keyboard/game bundle will get my money. $130 and it's a true MIDI keyboard? Yes, please.

wow.. if anyone here thinks that the pro guitar is going to have any decent sound to it, then you are surely an idiot.

you can put all the tech stuff to make it look and sound (somewhat) like a real guitar, but it's just not possible to match the sound and feel of a real guitar.

for $150, you can get a real electric guitar. it won't be the best, but i'm sure i'll sound a lot better than the toy.. and people will be more impressed if you learn to play it well than they will the toy.. just my thoughts on this..

I'm in the same boat as everyone else, I'm getting the Keyboard/Game bundle. Prolly will pre-order it tomorrow. I think eventually I might buy the guitar as well if it really does help learn how to play real guitar, I've always wanted to learn. I've always wanted to learn piano as well, so maybe I can actually have an excuse for buying all this crap.

80 bucks for a two octive keyboard? Is this a joke? You couldn't play anything real on that. This is price gouging in the worst way.
Gonna dig out my ancient midi keyboard and use that adapter, assuming it works. 130 bucks good lord.

$80 for a 2-octave velocity sensitive midi controller ain't too shabby, especially if it has a ribbon controller. My AX-1 has the same thing, and a whole 2 more octaves, so you better fucking believe I'm going to use the keytar i've been playing for years to play this..

I could complain about the price, but history has taught me that come Christmas that wont be a problem at all. Amazon were giving away the Beatles Value Pack (Drums, Guitar, Mic, Game) last year for just under £60, and a few weeks ago GAME were doing the Band Hero and World Tour full instrument sets for as low as £50. Heck, no-one thought they'd even be able to afford Rock Band when it was first announced, but I'm sure many people who believed that now own one, myself included.

It's just a matter of waiting until the right moment.

I see a lot of complaining about the direction or Pro and the introduction of the new instruments. Some of this coming from people who admittedly enjoy these kinds of games to begin with. You realize you don't have to play any of that stuff, right? You can continue to play Rock Band 3 just like you did Rock Band 2 -- with all of your existing instruments -- taking advantage of the other new features the game has. From what I've been able to tell, the introduction of all of this new stuff hasn't taken away from that portion of the game.

That MIDI adapter is looking pretty fucking fine.
Still not gonna buy it, but I have a pretty damn nice keyboard I'd be more interested in playing if I had Rockband's guidance to help me learn.

hmmm... This is interesting. I wonder if the keyboard will actually teach us how to play? The guitar parts in the harder modes of these games is just ridiculous. Some of them are much harder than actually playing on a real guitar...

ermm.. question, won't the screen be too cluttered? i mean i would get by with just chords popping up in succession but the average user won't be able to follow along. also the keyboard is a screen eater aswell...

@CRAZYAPE69

This is about as cluttered as it gets. Even when in pro mode, the keyboard wont take up much more than that.

@Everyone who's complaining

The Pro modes aren't necessarily if you already if you already play guitar, it's teaching you to play it. You can start at 'Pro-Easy' and as you get better you make your way up until 'Pro-Expert' where you will actually playing the song. If you don't want to do this, you don't have to. It's optional.

I'll take one of those guitars, and possibly a new drumkit, kthx.
May look at investing in a keyboard later, but I'm horrid with them, so most likely not.

Would be great if you could plug an actual electric guitar in somehow. That'd be awesome.

IT'S ALL OPTIONAL PEOPLE!

Do people not understand that you only need the pro instruments if you basically want to take in-game lessons to learn the actual instrument?

Seriously, for a 102-button controller that actually teaches you how to play guitar and which is totally optional, $150 is not bad. For everyone just saying to buy a real guitar, let's not forget that there's also a version that is both a real guitar and a rock band controller, which for whatever reason isn't mentioned here.

I'm rather disappointed by the fact that they aren't releasing a new drum set. Throwing on 3 cymbals that are randomly scattered on the Rock Band 2 drum kit does not impress me. Not to mention they could be positioned much better. And simply changing the color of cymbal you have to hit, yet not adding any more notes. I was really excited, but am less so as of now
