Pre-E3 2009: Nintendo to release Mario and Wii FitPlus photo

Half of this story is basically already confirmed 50 times over as Japan's Nikkei newspaper has revealed that Wii Fit Plus will be releasing some time this year. That has been known for a good long period of time via multiple rumors, but the other 50 percent of the announcement is a bit more intriguing. The paper reports that we'll be getting a new Mario this year too.

The Nikkei is usually a very reliable source and reveals that Wii Fit Plus will have online capabilities that allow players to compete with friends and family. The game will also feature better sensitivity, which is likely to come from Wii MotionPlus. The excitement level is high amongst you all, I'm sure.

As for the Mario game not much is told except that it's coming this year. Nintendo has of course been working on one and even said the game would show up later than early 2009, which it now is. If they announce another spin-off title instead of a main Mario game there will probably be riots in the streets.

No word on system or anything, I presume? Is it wrong that I'm hoping for a 2D Mario for DS or WiiWare?

I'd love to see an actual WiiWare Mario game, like New Super Mario Bros. 2 or something. But seeing as how WiiWare is mainly for third parties and Galaxy just got released not too long ago, I'm going to predict this is going to be a DS game.

Im thinking it will be a 2D mario (wiiware or DS) or Papper mario.

It'll probably be another Mario Party Game at most or another spin-off, Wiiware or DS game at least. I'll pass on both counts.

Give me Super Mario Universe and I'll be great.

I'm expecting another Mario Tennis/Mario Golf/Mario Sport here and I could care less about anymore Mario sports games at this point.

I hope so.

There is a 60% of chance it becomes a very satisfying game. The remaining 40% leaves a 'meh'.

Also, you heard it from us folks. Although, I think it's for DS (somehow, even though this big of an announcement would be retarded), and Dan thinks it's for the Wii.

If there's connectivity, we both win.

They will have alot of super mario rpg 3 for the "Hardcore Audience", also wiifit plus for the casual. I fucking hate those bullshit phoney words. They should just say, "Here is some games. If you play games and or enjoy them you should buy them cause games are fun."

Galaxy was so fucking overrated, another RPG would be super win, imo.

Galaxy could have been so much better. The story was pretty lame, and Luigi could have been used better in the game.

Amazing though that a "bad" Mario game is still better than 95% of what's out there

Galaxy is 10 times the Mario game 64 was so hush.

@Windex

You seriously complaing about the story IN A MARIO GAME?

And you could use Luigi for the entire game if you wanted to, what exactly did you want out of him?

Galaxy is a masterpiece, if you disagree you are wrong.

Might as well throw my two cents in - Galaxy is the best 3D "main series" Mario game. 64 is good, and even Sunshine is better than people give it credit for, but Galaxy is tops.

As for what I think the new Mario is, NSMB2 for Wii would be awesome, and I'd be thrilled if they announced another Mario RPG (especially a true sequel to SMRPG - come on SquareEnix, make it happen!), but it's probably the announcement of a US version of Mario and Luigi 3.

Generally speaking it's pretentious elitist "hardcore gamer" subculturists like the users of this site that create that dichotomy, not them...
