We saw rumors pop up early this month, but now we have full-blown confirmation from Square Enix. The North American webpage for Front Mission Evolved is live. Coming to the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, this newest game in the Front Mission series comes from Double Helix, and is now an action game, a third-person shooter where you control a wanzer, a massive humanoid war machine. Single and multiplayer modes will be included..
This sounds hot, and is a nice surprise. I miss the old days of turn-based strategy, but this sounds pretty interesting. No release date has been given yet, though.
Thankfully, Square Enix is packing this game in their little fanny pack for E3 next week. We'll be sure to check it out and tell you what we think. For now, check out the official webpage for a few screenshots. A trailer will be added later.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

Front Mission was always good action game fodder. What worries me is that Square have a bad track record with action games. Many japanese action games with mecha turn out shallow, because they lack vision of what makes a good action game in 3D.
I pray it will be good, and if its outsourced to a good team it will stand a chance.
Dear Double Helix, pay attention to why Armored Core is bad, and why Omega Force and Chrome Hounds are good. I'm routing for you guys, please don't fail us.
b) SRPGs rule
c) front mission rules because it is armored core in SRPG form
d) This sounds ultra silly, but I will probably still pick this up, as i have a huge mecha fetish. Silly Square Enix. This instead of FM5 in North America? Silly, silly, silly.
uuum don't look at my avatar.
Hope this one correspond to the hype.
PS: What a shitty image, if the bots are going to look like that Squeenix has REALLY come a long way down since FFXIII.
I have faith in Square, because I really can't think of any products I've played that I haven't liked. I haven't played their entire catalog, but I've played quite a bit. And if there is one trend I've noticed, it is that Square is really good at reinventing and trying new things. Mediocre is the worst I've seen them do.
I say bring it on. Day 1 buy for me, love the Front Mission series.
Also, SR2 with mechs, please.
A modern FME try, in 3d could be very positive for Square. Double Helix have action games experience with Silent Hill Homecoming, and are an american developer, however, the game will more than likely still have japanese chara/mecha designs etc. Its refreshing to see Square outsourcing projects like this and I hope it works out for them.
Now, if we could get Square to get Front Mission Alternative (never released outside of japan) onto PSP, we'd be in FM heaven.
Have faith, Wanzer rookies.
Is it so much to ask for a regular Front Mission game? I get enough 3rd-person action games every year, I need my good old Front Mission strategy fix!
it's sad that most RPG and SRPG are moving to handhelds. It's like ps1 era all over again for RPG fans.(in terms of graphics at least)
and LOL at Black Nexus, very funny.
