Pre-E3 09: Madden NFL 10 devs talk about putting in co-op photo

It's no fun getting your ass kicked in Madden. Just because you never watch football, don't have all these different patterns ingrained in your head, and aren't in a frat, doesn't mean that you should be subjected to an hour of trash-talking by someone who barely plays games. I mean, let's see them try and take down even one Colossus.

Ahem.

Anyways, all that has changed, with the game now featuring co-op: having both players on the same team. Now you and your friend can work constructively to try and make it through an entire season, coordinating plays, pointing out dangers, and giving them reassuring pats on the ass.

If you hadn't already read Samit's Madden NFL 10 preview, I suggest you do so. EA Tiburon has added in a hell of a lot, making it a huge improvement over Maddens past. After the jump, you can listen to the team talk about the addition of the co-op mode. It almost makes me want to pick up Madden for myself. Almost.

They need mass co-op. Where a whole team can be controlled by characters. It would be challenging yet severely rewarding.

You really want to play an entire game of Madden as an offensive lineman?

I think that would probably be the least fun non-special teams player possible. Well...maybe the fullback...but every now and then you'll get some action.

Nah, that just would not work. In football every single player has to do their job for the play to be a success. There are way too many assholes on Live that would ruin every play of every game. I play 10v10 on FIFA 09 and some games are complete chaos because people are out of position. The average player base for Madden probably has half the intelligence and commitment that FIFA players do.

No dude, maybe if they did it so you can play with two other guys as receivers, but nobody is ever going to willingly want to play as an O-Lineman, that'd be boring as hell.

This is a great feature though, and I know the reason I haven't played a football game online is because I am afraid of getting my ass handed to me. I consider myself to be at least okay (Using the A.I. opponent as a measuring stick), but I know that there are probably some ridiculous people online. I'm not half as good at Madden as I am at Halo, biggest reason why I have yet to jump into the online aspect of these games.

Football is all about strategy and I HIGHLY doubt that a team of controlled players can cooperate. Plus what happens when your character disappears from the screen? Kinda difficult to play then.

Madden was one of the games I first did a video on. I took terry tate and remixed him beating the crap outta the madden developers for releasing the same game every year. well Ian and a few other madden developers actually ended up seeing it and getting a chuckle from it....

I demanded a few features, its nice to see one of them actually got put in! I wanted 4 player co-op: so we will have to see if they also support that.

Anyone here have any other features they might want to see?

ok, just bring back the damn play calling windows and i'm game!! the PC version had this in 2008 but the consoles went to teh single window; ie totally shit if you play against a pal in the same room.

i hate how you can see what play your buddy is picking and vice versa (and yea i know you can fake them out by holding a button) but why not use a widescreen displays wideness??

Yeah, it's like the developers would just ignore the ability to focus the camera strictly on your player, kind of like some video games already do (MLB The Show). Actually, come to think of it, I think Madden's Superstar mode already does this.
