Pre-E3 09: 4mm puts on Def Jam Rapstar... for the city photo

4mm has announced its first game, Def Jam Rapstar, for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.

Okay, so what the hell is it? We think it’s a music game, but we’re not quite sure. In an interview with IGN, 4mm’s Nicholas Perrett says a lot of things, but stops short saying exactly what Def Jam Rapster is. According to Perrett, at E3 next week we’ll see what innovations they have in store, including how they will “make the experience of rapping a song fun.”

Based on the trailer (which features a wide-range of folks lip-syncing Young Jeezy’s “I Put On”), it looks like you’ll be using a microphone peripheral, likely to "spit dope rhymes, yo" along with tracks. But Perett makes it sound like more than a simple hip-hop version of SingStar.

“We’ll also give you things to do once you’ve finished singing a song,” he tells IGN before going into vague details about how 4mm plans to create a community, even hinting at MMO-like elements.

The appointment we made with 4mm for E3 just got a bit more interesting. We’ll have more details and info on Def Jam Rapstar next week. You can see the trailer right now, right after the jump.

Quick question - if the game is called Def Jam Superstar, then why does the logo say Def Jam Rapstar?

Anyway, I'm sure this will sell bajillions, but it's not really my kind of thing. I'm not really "down" with the "rap music".

I didn't even know anyone was left on Def Jam.
@Nanbu: Maybe; but remember the last one?

@Deathofthedead

I believe the game is called Def Jam Rapstar. Nick has clearly been drinking.

So long as it has House of Pain's "Jump Around", it's got my money on day one.

I think this is the rumored game where its a fighting and rhythm game at the same time. I don't have high hopes for this since the first two games already spoiled me with the AKI system (N64 wrestling games)

The game is most DEFINITELY Def Jam Rapstar, and I have had an extremely long week and am an idiot.

...that's not the true sequel to Def Jam Fight for NY. Not interested.

...ok, kind of interested just to see how it plays.

That was a seriously funny trailer or "music video". I hope somehow this is the true sequel to Def Jam Fight for NY, 4 players local!

Wasn't what I was expecting at all. This is actually a tad disappointing.
