Practice throwing jellybeans: A Boy and His Blob set for Wii photo

There isn’t much I can say in this post aside from OMG A NEW BOY AND HIS BLOB GAME IS CONFIRMED FOR THE WII!

Seriously, that’s pretty much all the information available.

According to the latest Nintendo Power, a reinvention of the classic NES oddity will be making its way to the Wii sometime in the future. When, exactly? Not sure. Will it be a remake or a revitalized version of the canceled 2005 Nintendo DS sequel? Sadly, that’s unknown. Will it be released on a disc or directly to WiiWare? Um, I have no idea!

All Nintendo sent out is the above tantalizing image and a very pixelated scan of the article itself. I included the scan in the gallery, but don’t get too excited: you really can’t see much of anything. From what I can make out, it looks like there will be a boy in the game. And a blob. And a moon. And maybe a ... tree? Oh, it doesn’t matter: A NEW BOY AND HIS BLOB GAME IS CONFIRMED FOR THE WII!

What do you think? Does this news excite you? Will you be picking up the new issue of Nintendo Power to find out more details? If you were my blob and I fed you a lemon-flavored jelly bean, what would you turn into?

[UPDATE: I just saw an un-pixelated version of the Nintendo Power article (which hints that the game is a straight-up remake), and let me just say this: wow. The game looks jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Sadly, I can't legally post the image, but ... be prepared.]

Looking at the screen.. that is defiantly a blob of something.

And if you think that is a tree, it's probably the famous cherry tree from the game. :)

I want to be excited, but it is very hard to get excited with the way nintendo has been lately. Still, there is that little kid in me that wants to throw a party today.

I remember playing this and having no idea what bean turned the blob into what item. Still, a very cool game and here's to hoping this one is good.

The game is being made by Wayforward, the creators of Shantae and Contra 4. It looks really good, you're gonna like it.

This makes me happy, as I remember looking through a Nintendo power, issue 2, where they preview the original!

So excited. This game looks lovely. If the Wii had more beautiful 2D games (which is finally becoming a trend) the system could be even more hardcore

I am really looking forward to this as much as all of you but, wasn't there a remake for GBA already? Though the boxart looked abominable.

@anchorman

The fact its coming out isn't an April Fool's Day joke. It was briefly mentioned upon in the March issue. Whether those screens are fake, Nintendo Power isn't one to make elaborate pranks like some publications are.

The original DS version had a horrible art direction. This game looks fantastic. Although, the images on that scan are clearly from Blobonia. What does the art look like in the city I wonder.

If that art is any indication of the in-game graphic style, this would be MM9-esque awesome.

@ Greylocke

I recall Nintendo Power having some pretty nasty April Fools jokes back in the day (nowhere near as nasty as EGM, but nevertheless still there). Although I haven't read the magazine in about 10 years, and thus can't think of any specific examples, i do remember being very disappointed in some of their faux game announcements. That little dose of nostalgia made me throw up in my mouth a little.

That game was great, 3 screen-height trampoline jump ftw.
The new art style for this looks fantastic. Going to keep an eye on this one.

Just saw an unscrambled version of the posted image, and the in-game graphics DO look like the posted art.

This is going to be amazing.

This game frustrated me a lot when I was younger, I spent so many hours trying to pass the game, and God it was hard. Do Want, that's for sure.
