Possible Shadow of the Colossus sequel? ICO sequel?

Possible Shadow of the Colossus sequel? ICO sequel? photo
     ICO

Ears will surely perk with this news of a potential sequel for the PlayStation 2 title Shadow of the Colossus... or is it an ICO sequel? As of now, nothing is confirmed, but a quote from the Official PlayStation Magazine (UK) gives us something to go on.

"We asked Sony boss Kaz Hirai what was going on with Team ICO a couple of months back," alleges OPM. "As he was pleading ignorance, one of the other execs present blurted out, 'I'm pretty sure they're doing the sequel.'"

We won't be picky. A PS3 version of either title would be great, although I'd have to lean more towards a second Shadow of the Colossus. Shadow still stands as one of my top ten games of all time, not to mention my number one "best game to scream at."

Let's hope we hear more soon.

I was kinda hoping for an original IP as well, but I'll take pretty much anything from them. Can't wait to see what it is.

ICO was far superior in every aspect except for huge fucking boss fights and horsies.

I'd buy a PS3 for a Shadow of the Colossus sequel.

Once it drops in price and gets a good library of games I'm getting anyway.

Ahhhhhh! Team ICO could release a slideshow of their vacation pictures and I would still buy a PS3 just to watch it.

A sequel to ICO or Shadow? That would be heavenly.

What would be Ace, in my humble internet opinion, is if they released the sequel, but then bundled in Ico and SOTC on a collector's edition disc with updated graphics for the PS3.

Pimpage achieved.

Jeffk6, tell me the thought of that didn't just make you feel like you had taken 14 viagra.

That is all, until the heart attack.

SOTC is one of my favorite games of all time. God I hope there isn't a sequel. It was a great stand alone title. It would be great if they team ICO made another game within that world, but please let it be something original.

I'd also consider buying a ps3 just for this.

Well, if they do make a sequel to either ICO or Shadow of the Colossus, it would likely be as much of a sequel as SotC was a "sequel" to ICO. That is to say, it would probably be only loosely related, if at all. Maybe set in the same world, but that would probably be about it.

In any case, what the hell does it matter? Sequel or original, it's going to be awesome sauce. Hopefully.

If and when this game comes, it would be another step toward me finally breaking down and getting a PS3.

I agree with MasterMS: I’d love to see another game in the world of Ico/SotC, but it seems like everything nowadays is sequelized — when you have new IPs where the developers say, “Oh, we’re setting up the story for a trilogy,” I find it infuriating and extremely arrogant. How dare they assume that their game will sell well enough to warrant a sequel? In this case, it’s like putting out a sequel to BioShock — the second game will almost certainly be a shadow of the original (pun intended), so don’t sully the name of the original game by making it. If Team Ico wants to make an original IP for the PS3, I’m sure it’ll be awesome. But I really hope they start anew, for the sake of the legacies of Ico and SotC, the latter of which was certainly one of the greatest PS2 games ever made.

A new I.P. totally. Sequels are fun but these guys have already shown they can create magic.
I want to see more new magic, not some same all rehashed stuff with newer graphics.

Both games were fantastic and either would make me drop $400 for a PS3 instantly. Although, giving the pseudo-sequel/prequel/whatever that Shadow was to ICO already, maybe it'll be a spiritual successor or game within the same universe. Whatever it is, I will buy it and love it.

Interesting thing about the SotC sequel/prequel to ICO. Go throw the game in your DVD drive and look at the main game file. It's called "Nico" (which was the early codename of the project when it was announced as a sequel to ICO).

As has been said, SotC is a prequel to ICO, Wander is the first "child with horns" and the things he did in SotC are why ICO gets thrown into that castle.

Theres plenty of room for them to flesh out that particular world without having to resort to it being a "sequel" (as in directly related, extending the story in each one, same characters, etc).

sotc is supose to be a prequel to ICO the horn's on ico's head r supose to be dormin's horns the wonder get's the horns in the end of sotc so i think they will make a sequel of ICO but they can do whatever they want to both games cuz of the way they tell the story in both ther is no true begining and no true end ico ends on a beach and thats it sotc ends in the secret garden and the bridge is gone and both games start on the way to the place never be for
