Resistance 3 billboard on movie set reveals NYC setting photo

You can't blame Sony for thinking about its marketing ahead of time, but I'm sure they probably didn't expect this.

Pictures taken from the set of the upcoming film action/sci-fi film Battle: Los Angeles reveal a billboard put up specifically for inclusion in the film. The story here (as you can see above) is that the billboard is question is advertising Resistance 3 for the PlayStation 3. You know, the obvious sequel that Sony and developer Insomniac Games haven't even announced yet? That Resistance 3

Beyond confirming the probable existence of the game, the logo also reveals one of the game's possible plot points -- the Chimera has made its way to New York City. The logo clearly shows off the silhouette of a war torn NYC skyline, the most obvious landmark being the Statue of Liberty which sits on the "A."

The alien invasion flick Battle: Los Angeles, which stars Michelle Rodriguez and Aaron Eckhart, is set for a February 2011 release... which is probably around the time Sony would have been ready to reveal the game. Oops.

OK, so...

The day I bought my PS3, I bought Resistance, and my wife and I loved it. I had the preorder all set for Resistance 2, but then found out it had no split screen coop, and all my friends said it was bad. Are they wrong? Should I pick it up sometime?

@Magnalon

I think you should. I recently was playing Resistance 1 and I couldn't fucking stand it. It was such a chore trying to advance in the campaign that I didn't even finish it even though I was like 2 levels away.

Now I'm playing Resistance 2 and it's much better (I guess it would be obvious). There's a much bigger sense of scale in the world, THERE'S HEALTH REGENERATION, many more awesome weapons, and the pacing is pretty good. I'd say yes. Haven't tried the Multiplayer yet so......yeah.

@ Magnalon:

I only ever played the first level of Resistance 2 but it was fantastic. The boss was a huge like octopus type thing, it was pretty epic for so early in a game. Really sets a tone for the rest of the game.

So give it a shot if you get a chance.

Oh, it's gonna be in New York then? The Statue of Liberty is shown on the "A" of the word.

I smell a Cloverfield-like monster waiting to happen.

Blogger: Dear Sony, there have been recent rumors circulating on the net of an upcoming Resistance 3 game, confirm or deny.

Sony: You obviously can't believe everything you read on the interwebs.

Blogger: What's the sign there?

Sony: I'm sorry what?

Blogger: That sign there, it says Resistance 3.

Sony: I don't know what you're talking about.

The reason i bought a PS3 was for resistance and when the second one came out i got it at midnight. But it just felt different. I logged hundreds of hours into the first resistance but the second one left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't know why i just hope the 3rd wont suck for me as much as the second did.

I loved the first one, but the second one really just fell off a cliff. Insomniac tried to do too many things at once. I hope they put a lot more effort into the single player stuff this time.

As long as this isn't rushed and feel as generic as R2 (Why did they ditch how health was managed in R1? It worked well), I'll probably be for it. And bonus points to Insomniac if they make Capelli the main protagonist.

Well the main protagonist can't possibly be Nathan Hale this time, although he COULD be a villian. I just want to know was I the only one absolutely in love with Super Kill Hands? What a great way to end a game.

I still hold a grudge against this series. I was a second wave adopter (right after the first price drop on the discontinued 60g) and had bought the hype about Resistance being incredible. I soon found out that it was average in every way and all the hype I had bought into was just defensive PS3 owners justifying their purchase. But then I bought Uncharted and I forgave my PS3.

See that black box in the bottom center of the ad. That's where Sony will go in and insert the release of Resistance 3 using CGI.

The Chicago level from R2 has to be one of the best levels in all of FPSs, maybe all of gaming. I'd buy Resistance 3 for the coop mode alone though.

Considering Insomniac's development record and its second studio in North Carolina, it would not surprise me at all if R3 came out in late 2010.

2010 - Year of the Sequels (doubly) confirmed.

Resistance 2 was awesome. In fact it still is. I'm really curious what's going to happen in the next one. I better have the same co-op because that was pure brilliance. Same or better of course. Awesomeniac!

completely split opinions here from people. I borrowed R1 from a friend and didnt really think much of it. But, i bought R2 and loved it. Its not the best FPS out there and the mechanics feel dated. But, its good fun to play and has some very memorable levels. In fact some of the levels are REALLY good.

The addition of health regen was a TINY bit of a let down, and I can be like every other elitist and say that Insomniac is haloizing R2, but I had liked managing my health. It added a little suspense if you ask me.

I WOULD FREAKING LOVE IT if they do Brooklyn, and I would personally shake everyone's hands @ Insomniace if they do ONE level in my hometown (Flatbush)

I hope this is a 2011 release. Insomniac need to take their time on this so the single-player is better than R2. Co-op was a blast so I hope they just build on what they already have and add vehicles to the competitive multiplayer so that it's got a large-scale Battlefield feeling mixed with the technology from the Resistance universe.
Mushman's Avatar - Comment posted on 10/11/2009 08:08

If you brought R2 expecting a stellar single player campaign, go in that corner over there and turn around, silly person. This game had a decent single payer, that's all, but it was the bosses where this game really shone, oh and the Chicago level, like Celica said, one of the best levels in gaming.

R2 has the one of THE best coop modes, ever, and frankly epic multiplayer, 60 people?? Check! Freaking HUGE maps?? Check!! Balls out awesome action?? Double check!!

Very much like KZ2, the focus was on long lasting multiplayer and if online numbers are anything to go buy, Insomniac delivered that. Even now, a year later, there are hundreds of games on, and that's just COOP.

'I smell a Cloverfield-like monster waiting to happen'

It certainly would be something if they did this, the HUGE monster boss in R2 was the definitive video game version of a cloverfield-esque monster. Hopefully they will step up the game, but I don't see how, the monster boss in R2 is already better then the one in cloverfield, IMHO.

Also, this will be out in 2010, Insomniac has a two year dev cycle on the PS3 game this gen.

Absolutely LOVED R1. Played it a very, very long time. R2 was good, not great, but good. Unfortunately, that's all I have to say about R2. I really hope R3 builds on R1. The reason so many people hopped on the franchise is because of what R1 brought to the table. Keep the mechanics the same as R1, but just improve them, and you can't lose. IMHO

I don't know what other people's opinions are, but I thought the ending to Resistance 2 was amazingly well done. In fact, it's probably the primary reason I'm so hyped for Resistance 3.
