ConsoleShop has got an interesting accessory for the Wii on sale. It's called the Retractable Travel Sensor Bar and is exactly what it sounds like.

It looks nice, but the designers of the product wasted their time making this. You see, the Wii isn't portable. Sure, it's extremely small so one would think it is portable except for one important factor: It doesn't have a handle. In fact, no system in the history of gaming (not including handhelds and Ben Heck's Frankensteins) have ever been portable except for one system: The GameCube. Why do I think the 'Cube is the only portable system? Because it has a freaking handle. The 'Cube was a majestic beauty of a cube that was only perfected with the curvy handle which signified that Nintendo wanted you to take it with you wherever you went. That, and use it as a weapon to bash people over the head with ...

Er, what was I talking about? Oh the Sensor Bar. It's stupid, don't waste your money. If you really need a new Sensor Bar, then buy their wireless Sensor Bar which is actually cheaper. Or use candles to which I hope you knock over and burn your house down.

All this talk about cubes makes me want to go out and mod my Gamecube into a companion cube. If only I was even the slightest bit artistic...

The Gamecube, the gamers answer to brick filled prada bags.

how about i'll just bring my super-portable, ultra-handled gamecube over hamza's place. out of wii-habit, i will play by candlelight, when accidentally, i knock over said candles, while trying to bash random person's head in. thus burning down house other than my own.

also, this sensor bar = complete waste.

I agree, consoles these days need handles! It's why the GameCube was my favorite console of the last generation.

Actually, the Wii fit beautifully into a laptop case. A decent one can also carry four Wiimotes, a few nunchucks/classic controllers, and several games, as long as the discs are in some kind of travel pouch instead of the Amaray cases. Get a wireless sensor bar at Best Buy for $20 plus an extra set of connector cables so that you don't have to rip yours out of the back of your TV, and you're good to go.

As long as you get the right accessories, it's incredibly portable.

All of them are portable.

They're called "boxes", and if you're upper-class, "backpacks".

If you're going to replace your sensor bar, listen to the guy that tried four models and get the Intec wireless one. It's foxing perfect. It's got suction cups if you want to mount it under your wall-mounted LCD (like I am), an auto-shutoff timer and it feels solid.

The worst: the I-Con bar. Stay the hell away from that one.

Yeah, I fail to see the usefulness.

Aerox, become artistic. Because thats a really good idea. Too bad I gave my Gamecube to my nephew once I got a Wii.

You never, I never really considered the Gamecube handle before. Thank you for this moment of contemplation.

You can use a friend pressing buttons on two TV remotes as well, but from my experience, that tends to piss off your friend.

If you're going to take your Wii with you, I don't think taking the normal sensor bar's gonna be much of a problem. And anything's portable if you have a box or some bags.

* says the girl who went to Otakon, and between herself and her bf took two 360's with four controllers, three guitar hero controllers, two ddr pads, a wii, four wiimotes and four nunchucks. And a psp. And a 20 inch television. *

Oh, come on, Hamza. You remember the DToid party, I was able to keep my Wii in that really small backpack and it took less than a minute to set-up. :)

this might be abit far fetched ... after all the wii sensor bar is nothing but a pair of infrared LED's , but yeah the controller setup is going to be much bulkier than the thing which is running the game in this case...

or have you seen those people with pimped out cars with dvd players, satnavs, a dozen screens and a few games consoles built in? being the smallest of the consoles i will not be surprised that it is the most popular choice for being used in projects like these

and keep in mind, this new sensor bar is 2 seperate units held together with a wire, which means it should be alot more flexible when it comes to playing in places you didnt have space to play in before , all you have to do is make sure the 2 halves are on the same height as each other... its halfway between a normal sensor bar and bringing your own torches/candles/whatever ...
