Porn drops HD DVD, backs Blu-ray: Call for the bell, this one's over photo

As if the annoying hi-def format war wasn't already entering the end phase, today's news that adult film studio Digital Playground has decided to abandon HD DVD and stick solely with Blu-ray has to finally hammer a welcome nail in the coffin of this battle. While it was confirmed false that Paramount had dropped HD DVD, a far more crucial loss has occurred -- pornography is considered a crucial key to success in a format war, and HD DVD has lost a big source of those valuable, valuable breasts.

Sony used to have a hardline stance against porn on its formats, but recently allowed Digital Playground to start releasing titles on Blu-ray. This has turned out to be a most prudent move as the supplier of fine adult arts has deemed the success of BD far more important than HD DVD. This leaves the suffering format with just Universal and the aforementioned Paramount. 

Unless the new Indiana Jones is turned into a hardcore gangbang session, things aren't looking too good.

I love this idea that hi-def porn is a bad idea. That's a lot of people not getting actually laid if the idea of un-edited, unblurred females is such a horrific concept.

I don't normally pay for porn, but I think I'll take the plunge on a Blu Ray one of these days, if only to be able to see just how disgusting some of these girls really look close up and in crystal clear HD. I can't imagine how monsterous some of these bitches vaginas look in 1080p.

BTW, I'll say this much, porn will not decide the HD format war. It never would. Sales of DVD based porn have never really ever been that stellar. People are able to rent, stream, and illegally download their porn. All three online. So the actual motivation to purchase porn in a retail store or through the internet are REALLY minimal considering repeated viewings tend to dilute one's interest in their original purchase.

That said, Japanese girls have nice boobs in HD.

Or maybe you've just never been on a porn set before? I live near the Valley(AKA where 75% of professional porn is filmed) and have seen videos being shot on more than one occasion while doing a report on the industry. Even the lauded Vivid Video Girls don't all look so great downtown when you get up close. I'd rather keep the dream alive that porn stars are beautiful women who just can't get enough sex.

I don't want to see their pimples from ingrown hairs.
I don't want to see plastic surgery scars.
I don't want to see pockmarks in the skin of women that look like they have flawless complexions.

Maybe over in jolly ol' England you've just forced yourself to grow accustomed to these flaws and you never bothered to want more for yourself because it was too much work.

I'll agree that high def porn is not something that I'm interested in. As was said above, seeing all the ingrown hairs, plastic surgery scars, etc. sounds really unappealing to me. Now when they can master holographic stuff so it looks like the woman is walking around my room then I think I'll never leave the house.

The point I was making was that people are moaning about how women would look in Hi-def, when we seem women in crystal clear daylight all the time. Honestly, I wouldn't touch half the women in pornos. They're really only good for fapping -- which isn't really an insult, considering that's exactly what they've reduced themselves to. I'm not saying I don't "enjoy" porn, but I'll take a real, "imperfect" woman anyday.

I think the porn effect on the DVD wars is greatly overestimated. Porn may have had a big deal with VHS...but think about the differences in media consumption back then. Video tapes were pretty much the first time you could enjoy any kind of movie on your home TV. Since then, we've not only had a glut of VHS tapes, but DVD, and more importantly, the Internet. People no longer need to depend on the latest platform to get all the porn they need. The porn industry is, in fact, facing poor growth because of all the free amateur sites out there.

This is more of the porn industry following the inevitable trend rather than it making any impact on which format wins.

Remember, the next Indy film will be on Blu-ray because the Paramount/HD DVD deal does not include Steven Spielberg films.

Chances are that Paramount will use that film as their entry back into the Blu-ray camp and just give up on HD DVD.

I think all the guys that are knocking how porn stars look here should post pics of their girlfriends/wives. I mean, I'm *sure* they're bangin' something much hotter than the average porn star. I know it's cool to hate on everything and be altogether cynical nowadays, but I'll go out on a limb and guess that none of the guys here complaining about porn stars in HD aren't exactly taking home models every other night. Sterling made a good point about how it's cool to act all "afraid" of seeing porn stars in HD when its not as if any of you posers would avoid nailing one in real life, if you ever had the chance.

I mean, if you want a real reason to avoid HD porn, how come none of you are bringing up the inevitable 45-second closeups on genitals flapping together? You guys are bringing up acne and shit, but you're not afraid of some 37-inch HD balls smacking around on your LCD screen? Talk about some fucked up priorities.

Not even Indiana Jones will be on HD-DVD. Spielberg supports Blu-ray so all his movies are exempt from Universal's exclusivity and will only be on Blu-ray :p
