Porn drops HD DVD, backs Blu-ray: Call for the bell, this one's over photo

As if the annoying hi-def format war wasn't already entering the end phase, today's news that adult film studio Digital Playground has decided to abandon HD DVD and stick solely with Blu-ray has to finally hammer a welcome nail in the coffin of this battle. While it was confirmed false that Paramount had dropped HD DVD, a far more crucial loss has occurred -- pornography is considered a crucial key to success in a format war, and HD DVD has lost a big source of those valuable, valuable breasts.

Sony used to have a hardline stance against porn on its formats, but recently allowed Digital Playground to start releasing titles on Blu-ray. This has turned out to be a most prudent move as the supplier of fine adult arts has deemed the success of BD far more important than HD DVD. This leaves the suffering format with just Universal and the aforementioned Paramount. 

Unless the new Indiana Jones is turned into a hardcore gangbang session, things aren't looking too good.

HD-DVD was never a serious contender, It's inferior, it's not even debatable that it's equal to Blu-ray. People who want to watch HD Films wont want a shit player, and PS3 is pretty much the best HD Film device going, and cheap for it too. So yeah. Stuff that HD-DVD.

I want to mention that Harry Knowles of 'Ain't it Cool News' proclaimed that HD-DVD was going to win due to the support from the Porn industry. Of course, the page in which he mentioned so has been edited, but I do remember reading it.

Well not sure what you mean by the Indy referrence, but as far as I know that's a Spielberg picture and he has a clause in his contract that HE picks what formats his films go on. He chose to put Close Encounters on Blu-Ray and so far that's the only film of his that's come out in HD. The chance of Indy 4 going on HD DVD is very slim to nothing as he is vocal about disliking the format.

Wait wait wait wait wait, do we really want to see porn in HD? Let's be honest, porn has always had a nice natural blur on its stars and their actual appearance. If we'd be watching porn in HD we'd end up seeing shit we are not ready to see. Women you've been jacking off for years will now be seen in a new light, what with herpes dimples, breast implant scars, c-section scars, penises, unremoved umbilical cords, dried semen stains from the last shoot, wrinkles, cankles, skin cancer marks, knife wounds, bullet wounds, second degree burns, bruises (off set related activities) and other unusual shit. Ya, Porn wasn't actually a big factor in the war to begin with... only reason people thought it was was because porn is popular and because it helped decide the VHS beta war. But the only reason it gave victory to VHS was because video porn wasn't avaible on the personal level so their was a HUGE market for it... however, with internet today, porn is very easily available and as such their is not nearly as much of a market

So ya, blu-ray getting Porn is not that big of a deal... thought still, it's one less point for HDDVD, and at this point, HDDVD could use every point it can muster... Still, Porn on Blu-ray, no big deal; call me when Paramount or Universal annouce their return support to Blu-ray and their enevitable exclusivity
