PopCap's special promotion gives to breast cancer charity [update] photo

With Mother's Day right around the corner, the folks at PopCap Games have decided to run a special promotion, with proceeds going to a breast cancer charity. From today (May 1st) through Mother's Day (May 11th), PopCap will give 30% of the price of each game sold to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

"For this year's Mother's Day promotion, we wanted to make a significant contribution to a cause that relates directly to mothers, and this seemed like an ideal way to do that," said Ben Rotholtz, vice president of marketing for PopCap. "Susan G. Komen for the Cure is dedicated to finding a cure for breast cancer, which obviously affects many mothers and their families. If the contribution we make saves even one life down the road, it will be a success in our eyes."

They've set a goal of $100,000. On their Web page, the meter shows that they're already up to $6,000 on the first day! They say that bonus prize will be distributed to all who participate if they manage to reach their goal.

There's plenty of games to pick from. And, if casual gaming isn't your thing, remember that mom's usually dig that kind of thing. This could be a gift and a charity donation all in one!

I'll take this opportunity, again, to invite challengers to my high score in Zuma

[Update: PopCap tells us that this promotion is for games and even gift certificates purchased at PopCap.com. This does not extend to console games or Steam purchases.]

My great grandma had breast cancer. It was very scary. I'm glad to see this happening. I think they will meet the 100k goal pretty easily.
