PopCap's first screen from Plants vs Zombies shambles on in photo

One look at PopCap's shiny, blatantly colorful homepage and I still wince out of habit, for it all seems so CASUAL. Yes, I know, I cast it around like a dirty word, but you'll forgive me if I admit I don't always relate to the casual gamer, usually because's she's 40 years older than me and clicking away in her cubicle. Except if I take a few minutes to play Peggle or Dynomite, everything goes black and I wake up six hours later, still clicking and loving every minute of it. What just happened?

Perhaps I have to admit, this crippling weakness to certain types of casual games does exist (Puzzle Quest being the worst one for me personally). That being said, the first screen of PopCap's upcoming tower defense/strategy title Plants vs. Zombies has me thinking I'm heading straight for one of my casual blackout sessions again, more likely sooner than later.

Of course, the picture is all we have right now, so there isn't much to speculate on, but it's proof that it's coming, right? If it can finally break up my seemingly endless Pixeljunk: Monsters habit, then more power to it. Bring it on, PopCap!

I think we're starting to stretch the way zombies can be included in a game. Plants versus zombies? Aren't plants the one organic object on this planet that zombies could care less about? Yes, yes, it's a casual game...but still...

Hey Collette, how about giving credit were credit is due?

Screen shot was relieved by executive editor of PC Gamer Logan Decker. He had to beg for that screen shot. That info can be found at offworld:
