Valcon Games has a new downloadable title called Polar Panic that's due out later next month on PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade, it unveiled to us today. It's sort of reminiscent of Bomberman, with the developer putting emphasis on its arcade-like tendencies.
If that headline has you scratching your head, allow me to elaborate. Polar Panic. Say it aloud. Does it not sound like a name ripped straight from an 80s arcade game? While the name initially turned me away, the video up there speaks for itself.
No word on pricing, but after looking over the bullet points -- 50 single-player levels, 50 puzzle levels, a few multiplayer modes, etc. -- and based on how polished the video looks, I think we can expect it to fall in the $10 - $15 price range.
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied: "bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. It looks like a Pengo update along the lines of Pac-Man Championship Edition. Except here the developers didn't have the licensing rights to Pengo so they just changed enough to stay out of legal trouble. I think they're saying Bomberman because people are more aware of that than Pengo.
Looks like fun to me anyway and I'll certainly try the demo.
Just had a bash on Pengo to refresh my memory and it does look like it plays very much the same, although this has a lot more going on. Seems a lot quicker, too.
I like the sokoban style puzzle bit as well, I loved chips challenge and sokoban back in the day. Would be good on the PSP or DS or something....
I have to say it looks a lot quicker than Gel, though, whoever mentioned that. I never got on with that game.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
