Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver sells 2 million already photo

Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver released only two weeks ago in Japan but has already managed to accrue two million sales. These latest games are remakes of Gold and Silver, generally considered by fans to be the best Pokémon games of the whole series. So yeah, no surprise they're selling like crazy.

The remakes have updated graphics and touch-screen controls. They also come bundled with a pedometer that wirelessly functions with the game itself to transform real-world steps into in-game rewards. The DS titles are due to hit North America and Europe in Spring 2010.

The exact figures so far clocks the Japanese sales at 2,067,609. It's amazing just how much life is still in that series. You'd think the whole craze would have died in the nineties, but Pokémania is still very much alive and well.

I don't get it. These games are essentially the same as the one before yet with different pokemon, so it's basically a remake or a remake D:. Fail

Haven't played since red/blue. All the new pokémons confuse me. I remember when I "caught mewtwo, and I didn't even use the master ball."

P.S. "Your ditto's shit".

HELL YEAH.

Gold and Silver are the best ones, period. God, I can't wait until this releases. One of my most anticipated games of 2010.

That pedometer would make an awesome pre order bonus! Get on it Game Freak!

I have to get this once it comes out.

@ShuperShawn

No need! It comes with the game! =D

@PJMan

Do you actually play Pokemon games? Each one has a different setting and story, graphical upgrades, new pokemon and items. If having the same basic structure means that it's a bad game then that could be said for all sequels.

10 years ago I played Silver on my Game Boy Color, and showed off my Lugia at recess once. Dang. I don't care if I decide to buy it only out of nostalgia, it's worth it.

I put 100+ hours on my copy of Diamond without even trying, so I assume I'll get even more out of this one.

@ShuperShawn: Um... no. Just, no.

The pedometer is sold with each copy of the game and plays an important role in the whole "Gotta Catch'em All" goal of the games (aka certain Pokemon are only catch-able via said device). If they offered it as a pre-order item only, that would mean the majority of individuals would never have a chance to collect all the Pokemon nor participate in the cool activities in HG/SS that are based on the device. Now if the pre-order one's were merely a different color than the regular ones, then it could possibly work as a Pre-order bonus.

Besides these games already have a Pre-order bonus for them:
HG Pre-order nets you a Ho-oh figure
SS Pre-order nets you a Lugia figure
HG+SS Pre-order nets the both figures and a bonus Acerus figure

@ masteraero

I hope we get to see those pre-order bonuses as well, or have they already been announced? Btw, I don't want to sound like a noob, but exactly how many legendaries can you catch in HG/SS?

There's a list on Serebii.net if you really want to know. Personally I want to know more about the in game events but I'm too afraid to spoil the new stuff for myself to look it up completely.

In a strange kind of way, Pokemon games are like fighting games...the version with the best character roster will end up as a fan favorite. The same goes on pokemon...to me, the Ruby and Sapphire gallery was the the last one with some kind of charm.
Gold & Silver gallery is one of the best, second only for the original ones

Plus: It was on Gold & Silver that this little bastard first appeared

What Monodi said and SoraX911 agreed with.

@PJMan:

I´ll have to disagree with you with that FAIL thing you said, because, even though you have the right to express your own opinion, it seems that you dont entirely know the subject that you are critizising.

@ Jim - That's not how Pokemon works.

Pokemania doesn't die because it's not a fad like Disco. I'm guessing that it's appeal is inherent to human nature somehow. In that the series itself isn't necesarily up to scrap, but the people playing pokemon imagine themselves within the pokemon world, either caring for pokemon as pets or training them to battle. And the pokemon themselves are interesting creaturs that you are curious about, which makes the Pokedex kind of important.

Although the biggest screw up in pokemon (to me) is that the pokemon started being less mysterious. Ditto, Voltorb, Doduo, Cubone and Magneton defied explanation or rationalization - What does Cubone's face look like? How do three magnemite stuck together weigh as much as ten? When pokemon don't make sense or inspire curiosity, they drive people into interest. I kind of wich that aspect of the game comes back with the next generation.

@Hcapt: I wholeheartedly agree... while the desire to play the games has largely died in me, I recall when red and blue first came out and being obsessed. Due to the portable nature of the game and the ability to challenge people, I consider it to be one of the most successful games at breaking the fourth wall, with the on screen character most accurately acting as a mere avatar of your actual self.

When I battled actual people, it was my six against their six... you'd be hard pressed to find another video game experience that immerses people so deeply; an experience where a person's in-game "possessions" are literally felt as his or her own, and beyond that, there also being an emotional connection to those "possessions."

Fascinating stuff really. I really didn't have that emotional connection during Sapphire/Ruby or Diamond/Pearl though. Weird.

Would it be weird if I thought that there would be more legendary Pokemon? Still, great list and I can't wait for this game to release.
