Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver getting magic pedometer photo

Just in case you needed more incentive to pick the Pokémon Gold and Silver remakes this fall, let it be known that you will be getting a bonus pedometer packed into the box. Speaking as someone who actually owned the Pokémon Pikachu pedometer (back when I was less fat and knew what walking was), this is interesting news indeed.

The Poké Walker is a special peripheral that can beam infrared signals to your DSi via the game cart (thanks, Reenee). You can use the Walker to carry Pokémon around, and they will gain experience with your footsteps. You'll also earn "watts," which act as currency for the game.

Sounds fun. Perhaps I'll actually bother to go outside for once if I have this. That, or I'll just shake the thing in my hand and laugh gleefully at how I broke the system and am lying to each and every Pokémon I lovingly raise.

At first I thought it some sort of device to scan for kids playing pokemon. You know, for pedos.

Soon there will be Sterling monsters, pokemon that are trained by waggle.

The first thing I am going to do with this "pedometer" is duct tape it on my fan then take a long nap. I will be running in my dreams.

Oh man, I had one of those. I got it so I could get some crap on my pokemon game using the "watts" on the thing. I haven't actually been excited for a pokemon game in a while, so this is a stellar turn of events

It's neat, but it'd be neater if you could EV Train on it :(

THIS!
It is not a bad idea at all, i mean training a pokemon while on your way to school/work ain't so bad. Kinda like the Exp system in TWEWY, when you earn EXP from not playing.

Great. Another device to rest on top of my PC so it thinks it's walking when it isn't.

Aw, i think this is a neat idea, now i wish i had a DSi :(

Its sooo cheating. Pokemon training is all about extreme endurance(/boredom) as you fight the exact monster that will give you the ev's you need to get the exact right stats, over and over and over and over until you get to level 100.

Actually, this is kind of nice. Its almost like they noticed how the average kid just loves to find out the near inevitable rare candy cheat, and figured they could get some exercise and hence some good press out of it too.

Correction please. The DSi (or any DS for that matter) doesn't have IR. The HG/SS cart itself has the IR.

I think Pedobear has forever changed my views of the world. I, too, immediately thought this was some sort of gadget that would help you identify and locate children who play pokemon. Not, you know, what a pedometer actually is.

So...if I put my Pokemon in that, sit down, and shake it for hours, I'll level up faster?

That's way better than grinding.

According to serebii.net you will also be able to find items with this thing.
The only question I have: Why would you play with a small pedometer thing, if you have the game on a portable system?

I had one of those Pikachu pet things as a kid and that's precisely why I can't get excited over this. It is kinda cool that it's shaped like a poke ball though.

ParaParaKing, because some of us have to work? Some go to school? And others do both?

Being able to contribute to your game while not touching it is pretty sweet IMO. And heck, we can hold it while we masturbate for extreme watt generation.

That is surprisingly genius....

I'd rather actually walk than just shake it. I'd feel like I accomplished actual exercise and video games.

Damn.

watch a step = an experience point.

therefore, you'd have to walk well over 1,000,000 steps to level a pokemon from 1 to 100.

Actually, good pedometers are pretty hard to cheat. I have one in my phone for some weird reason (Sony Ericsson likes leds and pedometers), and it is almost impossible to cheat it. Sometimes I manage a step or two, but it's not reliable.

Gold & Silver was probably my favourite of all the iterations of Pokémon, so I'm definitely onboard for this. I also like the way that the pedometer is nice and small, unlike the hulking monstrosity which came with "My heart trainer", which was only so large because it was designed to plug into the GBA slot on the DS - wireless transmission is much better.
