I know absolutely nothing about Pokemon, Digimon or Tamagotchi. It's like I totally missed the 90s or something.
I use to have a Tamagotchi when I was a kid. I remember going to sleep with it healthy only to have it be dead in the morning. This would repeat for two months until my dad got tired of it and smashed into pieces right before my eyes. Good times.
Holy shit Tamagotchis. I remember in 6th grade they were huge, but the spinoffs were much cooler.
My friends and I had WWF "Wrestlers", that you'd train similar to Tamagotchis, but you'd battle them over a link session by sticking them together. Man, that awesome.

Not sure if any Digimon could kick any Pokémon's ass, Mewtwo would basically wipe the floor with Patamon.
I always slightly preferred Digimon over Pokemon when I was young. However, the best one of them all was...
I used to watch pokemon but then switch to Digimon becasue of the story line (Digimon actually had a pretty good one). Digimon was really good but pokemon hit the fad wave. The digimon games on PS1 werent too bad.
I was never really into Digimon as a kid. But recently I decided that I should probably watch it sometime, could be fun.

@Gr3g0ry there actually is a new Digimon game coming out on the PSP in Japan (not the Vita but the original PSP). Its a return to the style of the first Digimon World game, looks pretty good. Doubt it'll get an english release though.
I got into both Pokemon and Digimon plenty, I am the best digital champion like noone ever was.
Digimon made FAR LESS sense and had nowhere near the same level of immersion, and the rest of the media sucked compared to Pokemon (games, cards, toys etc).
That said Digimon was fun enough and as it was made by Toei Animation the fights were mostly better, it's Dragon Ball Z Pokemon basically.

Eh, I had a clear red one. I liked the concept, like some kinda meta-rpg or something.
But pokemon was better in just about every way. The games were way better, most importantly.
I liked digimon for awhile, but they really fell flat in trying to do all the things pokemon did (the card game was so simple and boring, the ps1 games were SHIT, and do you remember how bad the movie was?).
Honestly, I'm surprised the franchise is still plugging away.

The first season of Digimon probably had feces in it. At that point, it was closer to the whole digital pet thing, before its storyline evolved.
That was enjoyable to watch, as a kid I had sworn myself to Pokemon alone and ignored everything else, and then when my sister made fun of me for liking Pokemon so I stopped watching anime for a couple of years, because you know how kids are all insecure and stuff.
I always thought Digimon was weaksauce. Except for Gabumon. I had an awesome pillow shaped like him.

Digimon World was awesome and i loved the series as a kid watched most of series 1 and a good chunk of series2 but then terrestrial British television's poor coverage of series 3 killed it.
Also Jagamon and Leomon and Deputymon were my favouritez.

Sure Pokemon is a phenomena and all, but there's not a whole lot too it other then trying to memorize (oh and catch 'em all and such) the periodic table of Pokemon. Digimon was less time restrictive but had shittier games and -possibly, if you could sit through the DBZ-like filler- a more epic story that (to me at least) didn't pat you on the head like that kid in the special classes, at the end.
And Tamagotchi's are a girls toy (there, I said THAT!), and the only reason a boy would have one is to endlessly try to kill the pet (which only amounted to never touching the thing, which made it a waste of money). But if you had a PC, and the Sims, by (what?) 1998 you were already locking people in doorless rooms and watching them freak out (and pee pee themselves).

It's simple really, Digimon wins because Digimon are digital monsters and Digimon are the champions.
Being a Pokemon fanboy I obviously prefer Pokemon, that being said Digimon would totally kick Pokemon's ass in a crossover battle,simply because in Digimon,evolution = getting more metal parts and/or cannons attached to them, the only Pokemon to do that is Blastoise.

Agumon can kick Pikachus ass. Black Wargreymon can eat Shiny Charizard alive. That said, I prefer pokemon, mainly because it's the one that still exists.

yours was probably some shitty US version adaptation or 4kids since if you compare them side by side you would see a HUGE difference.

Dark Magician was supposed to be insanely rare, not as rare as Blue Eyes White Dragon (which had only four known copies in existence at the start of the series). But there were all sorts of cards that specifically connected with Dark Magician.
