My friends and I had WWF "Wrestlers", that you'd train similar to Tamagotchis, but you'd battle them over a link session by sticking them together. Man, that awesome.

I remember they did shit in the show. I don't remember if anyone cleaned it up, though.
Digimon made FAR LESS sense and had nowhere near the same level of immersion, and the rest of the media sucked compared to Pokemon (games, cards, toys etc).
That said Digimon was fun enough and as it was made by Toei Animation the fights were mostly better, it's Dragon Ball Z Pokemon basically.
Mewtwo is a pimp and would kick the living crap out of Devimon and the other evil lameasses.
Also, Monster Rancher was wayyyyyy cooler to me.
Digimon is definitely the best, but Tentomon is totally gay. WereGarurumon is where it's at.
Oh, to be a kid again...
But pokemon was better in just about every way. The games were way better, most importantly.
I liked digimon for awhile, but they really fell flat in trying to do all the things pokemon did (the card game was so simple and boring, the ps1 games were SHIT, and do you remember how bad the movie was?).
Honestly, I'm surprised the franchise is still plugging away.
And yes, there's an episode where one of the Digimon drops a digideuce in car.
5D's and DM are the best, Zexal sucks and GX is okay.
though Digimon had a good following back then, but i only dwelve into the card series since it's the only thing my relatives in the US shipped to me back home.
still Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon were neck to neck to me back then, but Yu-Gi-Oh! had a longer lasting effect on me and it renewed my interest 2 years ago when 5D's was released.
oh fuck the 4Kids version. literally destroying the essence of the franchise.
now im tempted on rekindling some of my childhood memories back then O____O
Also Jagamon and Leomon and Deputymon were my favouritez.
Nah, you didn't miss much.
Sure Pokemon is a phenomena and all, but there's not a whole lot too it other then trying to memorize (oh and catch 'em all and such) the periodic table of Pokemon. Digimon was less time restrictive but had shittier games and -possibly, if you could sit through the DBZ-like filler- a more epic story that (to me at least) didn't pat you on the head like that kid in the special classes, at the end.
And Tamagotchi's are a girls toy (there, I said THAT!), and the only reason a boy would have one is to endlessly try to kill the pet (which only amounted to never touching the thing, which made it a waste of money). But if you had a PC, and the Sims, by (what?) 1998 you were already locking people in doorless rooms and watching them freak out (and pee pee themselves).
By Yu-Gi-Oh! you mean the weekly visual rules/strategy video they played on some channels? The one that taught kids how to play (a facsimile) of the card game by shouting the rules and card names randomly while confusing the ever loving hell out of them with a weak storyline?
Cause that was Yu-Gi-Oh! to me, and according to my friends kid, the new ones are stupidly worse.
Damn, haven't had that discussion since middle school...

weak storyline??? ROFL you must have not read the manga's or watched the japanese version.
MY version is definitely the japanese version and spent a good chunk of the card games.
yours was probably some shitty US version adaptation or 4kids since if you compare them side by side you would see a HUGE difference.
lol the only shitty ones is Zexal. 5D's and DM are godlike and GX is okay-great.
though they were some new and interesting tricks that were introduce to Zexal(5d's has synchro fusion and white labeled cards) i saw Zexal having black ones and new techniques.
my advice don't watch the US adaptation. they can really butcher a series especially when 4kids get's a hold of the licenses.
This was also a card game that had a ton of support cards for a supposedly ultra-rare card. Dark Magician was supposed to be insanely rare, not as rare as Blue Eyes White Dragon (which had only four known copies in existence at the start of the series). But there were all sorts of cards that specifically connected with Dark Magician.
But then, it was an anime based on a manga that was originally just about puzzles. Duel Monsters just happened to catch fire as a concept. The manga really was making everything up as it went along, and the anime followed suit. Just without as much darkness or as many cases of attempted murder.
