Pokeman Heart Gold/Silver screens are pretty cute photo

I like how your average gamer will turn up their nose at the Pokémon franchise like they're too good for it, yet the series still ranks among the best selling portable titles of all time. Somehow, I find it tough to believe that's all eight year olds buying all those copies. Call me crazy, but I'm just saying.

AndriaSang posted a slew of new screens and art from the upcoming Pokémon Heart Gold/Silver, and admittedly they do look pretty adorable. It's been a long time since I played a Pokémon game, but I'm seriously considering giving these a spin when they come out this fall. What's your favorite Pokémon title in the series?

"What's your favorite Pokémon title in the series?"

Gold and Silver are my favorite ever. And to think that at it's peak, no more Pokemon would be conceived. It got overwhelming for me as a kid and I stopped caring after these two.

Wait, the new games are coming out THIS fall?

Oh shit, I might have to change around my Christmas list.

Yellow was probably the pinnacle in my mind - you had a pokemon able to be out of the ball - you had characters identifiable with team rocket after you. There wasn't way too many pokemon - and you could catch most of them with one.

Every new iteration added more pokemon - and more pokemon you can't catch without trading and more useless distractions.

Oh, and by the way:

Gold/Silver > Every other Pokemon game. Seriously, that was the peak of Pokemon games.

Actually, most of the "you need to trade" pokemon are from the first generation.

I'm almost 20 years old and I play Pokemon like its going out of style (which it isn't btw). I must agree with WarZombie: GSC were the best games in the series, and I'm completely stoked that they're being remade.

Oh and Mabui, HG/SS lets you have any of the 493 Pokes outside of their ball following you around! How d'ya like 'dem apples?

After I beat Pokemon Pearl I swore that I was done with the Pokemon series, and now they're remaking Gold and Silver... God damn you, Pokemon! Pokemon is like the Mafia, everytime you think you're out they pull you back in.

My Poketard friends are excited about this game. And I have to admit, I am as well. I don't play it, but we frequently discuss strategies. Plus, one of my friends had the most epic 3 hour long battle of attrition in battle tower (not the whole thing, a single fight).

@Mabui: I've heard that this one has the most pokemon you an catch in any game, as well as pretty much all of the legendaries. If it wasn't such a fucking time vampire or if I were still in high school, I would probably be all over it.

Also, Diamond was my favorite Pokemon.

It's amazing how Online can change how much you can play something, and enjoy it.

Best Pokemon memory: Beating my friend's landshark dragon Garchomp with Truffles, my Persian. Pearl really suckered me back into the game with its depth.

Bonus memory:Convincing my girlfriend to play FireRed in order to capture me a Mankey.

Yeah, I'll be picking up HeartGold, which is superior in every way.

The only reason the DS Pokemon games rank lower than they should for me is because of how long battles take to start. I'd like it if we could finally catch all the Pokemon in one cart. Platinum is a hard game to say bad things about for me. I already spent 100+ hours in Pearl.

The problem with online though was that you had to exchange friend codes with the person you wanted to battle against. It would have been 1,000 times better if you could just get into instant battles against random players.

POKE-FUCKING-DODGEBALL MY FRIEND.

Poke Dodgeball indeed. As for which version I'm picking up, it'll definitely be SoulSilver. Because, you know, it's blatantly better than HeartGold :)

I haven't played Pokemon since Red/Blue and I keep wanting to play it again but they are constantly bringing out new games. I was going to start Platinum but might wait for this instead.

That Lugia wants a hug.

I have the most-fond memories of Silver, though I had more playtime in Blue. And RBY had the Cerulean Cave which was mad leveling. I know GSC had Lucky Eggs, but tell me how many Chanseys I caught for nothing? Too many.

That Pokepedometer thing somewhat interests me too. Shame I'm not in a position where I'm really active anymore.

I missed Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, and never finished Ruby, but my favorite is either Gold or FireRed.

I am far too excited about the fact that I can pick a Pokémon to follow me around. Me and my Totodile are going to be best buds :)

Also, Poke-Cocks.

Re: Now why can't they make it for the GB-Advance as well? The Micro came out, what, 3 years ago and they already forgot about that investment and go full blown DS/DSi? Lame. I can only hope a new Pokemon game comes out for the Advance...

@xHOGUEx,

Huh? Why in the world would they bring out a game for an 8-9 year old system. At some point, you have to let go.

@runtheplacered,

I agree, and I'm going to pick up a DS in the near future. But, to me, it doesn't make sense to make a 'new' console, (when the SP still works amazingly well) and not support the console you 'just' produced with games, like the new gold/silver, that are going to be popular.

Holy Shit, the female main looks sooo adowable *^.^*. Also, the rival(if that's who it is in that first screen) looks pretty cool also.

I can't wait for HG/SS. They appear to be Gold and Silver, with the system advancements from Diamond, and some of the awesome stuff from Yellow that never went foward in the series.

These games also have everything from Crystal as well as the addition of the things cut from the original games(like Viridian Forest and the Safari Zone).

I haven't played much of the Pokemon series since Gold/Silver (although I do own Pearl), so it's definitely the one I have the fondest memories of. A day one purchase for me since I've just started to get back into the Pokemon franchise and I like the idea of the pedometer.

Oh yeah and the game doesn't release this fall (atleast not in NA, they are launching right about now in Japan). The rest of the world has to wait until atleast spring 2010.

Red remains my favorite. I gave gold a go for a few months, but the breeding system drove me nuts; I was spoiled by Dragon Quest Monsters at that point, which had a superior breeding mechanic. I picked up Pearl a couple years ago, and it was pretty good, but Red/Blue has the best pokedex, and that really is what's most important to me in a pokemon game. Red was also permanently affixed in my pocket throughout my freshman year of high school (along with a link cable), so the sentimental value is through the roof.

Gold/Silver/Crystal were the best pokemon games by far! I remember when I finished the elite 4; I thought it was a great game, already better than Red/Blue/Yellow. But then it went and turned EPIC when I got in the train and went back to Kanto >.<
Fighting the Gym Leaders in the Kanto region and the PKMN Trainer in Mt Silver made the games the best ever...

Fu*k, I need these games now!
