Quantcast

It is Monday, which means we record Podtoid tonight. We are recording Podtoid tonight, which means we will need listener questions. We need listener questions, which means you have the chance to win a Dtoid swag bag if you ask the best one.

Tonight, the regular cast will be talking about videogaming's first major use of male nudity, structured games versus unstructured ones, and how long it would take Noby Noby Boy to eat, digest, and defecate each of us. Jim would probably take the longest, because Boy would presumably wish to make him suffer.

Anyway, hit the jump and start asking questions.

Is street fighter 4 going to revitalize interest in fighting games? It is certainly a great game, but will more come of it, or will street fighter be the only new fighting game we care about bar a new marvel vs capcom or something crazy like that?

Whats with games not having stories are very thin plots latley? (noby noby, flower, Left 4 Dead, SFIV etc.) Not that I'm complaining, all those games are great.

When do you think the tabloids/media/your parents will stop trying to kill off video games? Are video games modern day metal bands like Blizzard of oz? Will we once again face Tipper Gore!?

Please Discuss.

I just started playing L4D and I really enjoy how each time you play through a level it feels different thanks to the AI Director. So I was wondering if you prefer games that have fixed elements or games that have randomly-generated elements. Should weapons appear at random points in a level? Would you like to see randomly generated levels, like the dungeons in Diablo 2, in other games?

So I just found out that most computer game related degrees in the UK (thankfully not mine) don't actually teach programming they instead have the students play games and write essays analysing them.
So how do you feel about the fact that whilst the game industry is worth billions it still doesn't appear to be taken seriously by anyone on the outside.

Do any of you guy's ever buy a game without knowing anything about it? you know, just browsing along on the game aisles, then something catches your eye, you read the back, look at the box art some more... and decide to buy it. Or when you go inside a game store you always know exactly what you're going to be leaving with? I haven't done this in ages. The last game that I bought on a whim was Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, good thing to, because that got me interested in the series.

With the recent release of GTA IV: The Lost and Damned, do you think the bar for DLC has raised? If any of you have played/completed TLAD, do you feel it is a justified purchase? It really is like a new game in the style of Vice City/San Andreas(New story using same engine) except it is shorter. Personally, I think it was an awesome expansion and completely worth 20 dollars. Also, cocks.

How do you guys feel about "Patch culture"? It's disconcerting when game companies release a patch on day 1 to fix a bug that should have been taken out before the game went gold, but at the same time, it's nice that patches can fix exploits that only the users could find, or change balance issues (á la Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead).

Why do game users especially love to compare prices? It seems like something we do more often than others. Always waiting for a price drop or trying to find a cheap deal. Like buying Persona 4 new for forty dollars only to find out I could have gotten it today for twenty five.

Also another quick one:
Now that I know how Persona 4 ends (Thanks Destructoid Community!) as well as Persona 3 (Thanks X-Play. Why I was watching in the first is a mystery in itself. Watch the FES review to see what I'm talking about.) I'm still compelled to play them. What does that mean about me as a person, beyond the obvious psychological effects, but more so as a guy who plays games? Short version: You guys ever had anything spoiled for you and still wanted to play it? Like Ico perhaps. I know at least one of you loves storylines in games more than games themselves, so I'm curious how you would feel about that.

Should games have more creative swearing, as words such as 'fuck' have lost their lustre over the past while? Such new curse words pave the way, such as 'cuntbuster' and 'wanktastic'.

Ive been going through fallout3 after the DLC dropped and figured this was a true way to go. Granted its short and linear, but this is the way to do DLC. Do you think that people will go this route in the future? I know Rockstar did it with GTA 4 but compare it to something like Tomb Raider's DLC. You could tell that shit should of been in the game, it would made it a better.

So does it Cheapen the DLC by thinking that the content should of been in the game in first place? Or like Fallout 3 did , made it fell optional but still rewarded you with good stuff(granted they should of put the level cap raise in this DLC)

Does the timing of a game's release really impact sales? Do Q4 games sell more than Q1? Which game in 2008 really exceeded your expectations in terms of sales (aside from the regular Wii stuff like Fit and Sports). Also, what would you say was the sleeper hit of 2008? (A game that was announced but barely had any buzz or marketing)

You guys claim to be all for the purchase/sale of used games, yet at the same time are big supporters of Valve's Steam digital distribution system which essentially negates all used game sales. You have said before that DRM essentially serves to curtail the sale of used games (e.g. Spore), as it has proven ineffective against actual piracy.

What I'm trying to get at is, don't you find it hypocritical of Valve to be claim to be against DRM when essentially their method of distribution makes sure there is no need for DRM; the Steam system itself is DRM.

A famous historical figure is a character in Capcom's upcoming Dark Void. (To save you spoiler rage, I have not mentioned who, but its AWESOME)

What bad ass historical figure would you like to see make a cameo in a game, and in what capacity?

Teddy Roosevelt in Lost Planet 2?
Nostradmus in Chrono Trigger 2?
Lady Godiva in Bonerquest 4: Modern Cock-fare 2
Thomas Edison in Half Life 3?

Regarding last weeks topic of horror games:

Do you think the real life environment would play a large roll in how you enjoy the more cerebral horror games (not the jump out and "BOO" kind)? I've heard nothing but "It's not scary" remarks about silent hill homecoming and I decided to give it a try while the missus was away for the weekend and alone in the dark with the fierce winter winds blowing and I felt that delightful feeling of silent hill brand anxiety and unease that I haven't felt since Silent Hill 2. I think this is because the silent hill series plays a lot on the human fear of loneliness. Trying to tell someone they're alone in a decaying hospital loses its power when you have to take a break to take out the garbage.

Is the first major use of male nudity a valiant step forward for gender equality in video games or yet another failure to make video games seem equal to movies in their attempted use of "legitimate" sexual content? Your thoughts.

@SeltzerMx

I can see the basis for your argument, but where Steam differs from pre-DRM free iTunes and other similar services is this: Once you purchase the games and register them with Steam, you have them for life. All you need to do is log in to a PC, install Steam, and download your games. It keeps you from having to back up all your games to DVD and negates the need for stacks of discs. Other companies that use DRM are quick to use it to get you to repurchase files that you've lost due to hard drive failures and the like. Steam actually really helps you out.

Given the fact that a full male dong has now been made visible in a mainstream videogame, do you think that this now Jack Thompson-less country has stopped worrying about sex in videogames as much, due to bigger problems in the country or is it just a matter of time before somebody else takes up Jacky boy's role and makes a shit storm of it on Fox News?

Also, what's your take on the actual presentation of the penis? Shouldn't have Rockstar treated its introduction as something more subtle, not the major defining component of a scene?
And does this mean that Rockstar will bring out Grand Theft Boner to compete with Aaron Linde's Bonerquest?

In a recent 1UP interview with Resident Evil 5 director Jun Takeuchi he said that Resident Evil 5 will be the last of it's kind and the inevitable Resident Evil 6 will be another reboot of the franchise. Since Resident Evil games already encompass a lot of different styles of gameplay how do you think the next Resident Evil game will be like?

@CaptainApocalypse: Yes, the abiltiy to re-download any game you've purchased is a really good one, but my point was still teh reselling of games. What if its a game that you know you're never ever going to play again. Assume also, that it is still relatively new and you could get 30-40 from selling it online or to a store, etc. With Steam, you can't do that. Sure, you own that game forever, but if you never play it again, and you're not a collector, whats the point?

So Lost PLanet 2 has just been announced, are you happy with this news? Personally I loved the first game, it felt like it had some old-school gaming sensibilities mixed with mechassault style robot action.

On that note, isn't it about time we got a new MechWarrior game?

What are you thinking of Rockstar ? Are they peoples waiting for an occasion to cause more scandal about video games, or, are they people who are trying to push the envelope farther each times they develop a new game. Pushing the envelope in a way that help the industry to become much more like the movie industry ?

Recently, Yoshinori Ono said that adding more characters to Street Fighter IV would be "entirely possible." Obviously this would come in the form of DLC for the game. Like most DLC, we can assume that there would be some fee for downloading this expansion, but with a game that is based solely around one on one matches, is it fair to the players who choose not to shell out the extra money to get a handful of characters? And would they simply be new characters for versus mode or would you expect them to have the same treatment as the other characters already in the game (with trial modes and an arcade mode rival)? Also, who would you like to see make an appearance?
