First things first, if you're worried about spoilers, you can still listen to the podcast. The first third of the podcast is completely spoiler-free: we talk about the games' quality, its flaws, and its characters, but we don't get into any specifics that might be considered spoileriffic.
After the first third, of course, we get into pretty heavy spoiler territory, but you can still listen to at least the first half hour if you're trying to stay away from spoilers.
Today, on this very special EX-2 Gaiden Plus Alpha episode of Podtoid (make sure to listen to this week's "normal" episode), Brad Rice, Chad Concelmo, Aaron Linde and myself talked about MGS4 at great length, guided mainly by questions from you, the listeners.
This being a crazy spinoff episode, I can't actually give out $25 bucks to the best question. This is a good thing -- I don't think I could have decided on a favorite if someone held a gun to my head.
Anyway, go here to listen to the new episode, and, again, don't hesitate to check out the first third even if you're worried about spoilers.
[The music is "Old Snake's theme" by Harry Gregson-Williams.]
Also, I really hope this comes out on the 360, Subsistence or not. I doubt I'll even be able to play it until then.
I actually hope there isn't a special edition of MGS4, but rather hope some extra stuff comes along via way of DLC.
@Reverend Anthony:
Egg Mania. I mean, Sunny only knows how to make eggs, and Otacon doesn't know how to cook. The game consists of one recipe, Eggs, Sunny Side Up.
After Psycho Mantis vanishes you can press L1 and see The Sorrow standing above you. (Also at the moment Mantis vanishes you can press X and see a picture of Kojima as a flashback)
There are quite a few hidden L1 and flashback moments in the game. i.e. you can look up Naomi's skirt when Snake picks up his cigarette.
Dammit!
Bad character impersonations?!
Jim Sterling's Liquid Snake is one of the few things giving my life meaning.
I mean, she did something pretty fucking important!
Nope, no remorse or regret for me. I killed every beauty on my first play through. I knew about the obvious tranq option for bosses throughout the series but I didn't care. Those chicks were so messed up I felt it was my duty to put their troubled souls to rest, forever.
No MGS5. I vote no. The Solid series should end with 4. Anything else should be named something else and stand aside from the solid series. I really think Metal Gear 1 and 2 should be remade into one game but thats just a longtime fanboy dream I've had. To be able to see Snake in action for his first time ever, would be a real treat.
@Reverend Anthony - You said you were curious to see the shift of Zero into a power hungry being. I suggest playing (or YouTubing) Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.
The events that tear Big Boss and Zero apart could be explored, though.
In regards to games set AFTER MGS4, I'd like to remind you of FoxAlive. A large portion of the ending was explaining WHY the world wasn't going to be thrown into utter chaos. It's not "the wild west all over again" as Ocelot put it.
The entire saga disseminating from the events of The Boss's execution have been tied up. The factions that were split by their interpretations of her vision no longer exist.
I really feel it would be disgrace to continue after that point.
Prequels would be much more logical. It seemed to me that it was an intentional opening for new gameplay mechanics set between MGS2-4.
The database explains that Raiden rescued Sunny from Area-51 but was captured and tortured in the process. This seems like the a basic plot for a game showcasing stealth-infiltration then cyborg-ninja-escape.
