It was pretty tough deciding whether to embed this, or the ten minute shot of a mayo jar.

Anyway, I've got a head cold and I'm as unoriginal as I am groggy, so this week's Podtoid will be full of listener questions. Ask about whatever comes to mind -- the upcoming year, games you've recently been playing, or just random game-related stuff you've been thinking about.

As usual, asking the best question will get you a Dtoid swag bag and the respect of your peers, so you'll get to asking if you know what's good for you.

Why do movie games, and game movies suck so hard? Has there ever been any really good adaptations of either? I love movies, and I love games, but why can't the two ever get along?

I think that now that game engines are getting so powerful, that the developers could make their games into movies using the same methods of making their cutscenes, and keeping the same voice actors to keep those characters true. The Crysis, MGS 4, and Unreal engines could definitely make realistic films.

Your thoughts?

Will there ever be a Bonerquest or Gentleman Dinosaur movie?

Do you guys have any good recommendations of web comics that people may not have heard of? I love reading Questionable Content, xkcd, Penny Arcade, stuff like that, but I'd love to get into some better ones. Any suggestions?

Also, can I stay with any of you guys at PAX this year?

Anthony, when you played F.E.A.R 2, did you bump into a checkpoint in the theater, where a big fellow with a laser gun pops out and kills you? the demo checkpointed me right before the bastard killed me, resulting in a death loop.

just wondering if you saw some others fishy stuff there. I know it was a demo, but with the way it looked and felt, i was expecting more..technical polish?

So did you guys get all the endings in Bonerquest? Or fight the SPOILER Vaginamen?[/b]SPOILER[/b] How about the arena mode where the final encounter is, SPOILER AGAIN OCARINA FAN SPOILER.

Has everybody played Bonerquest yet? Most if not all the kinks should have been worked out by now. Statistics are still a little off with some monsters not doing enough damage in some areas, but things mostly work now. It is playable and a video game. Will you accept the Bonerquest? Download it over here in case you missed the new version getting posted.

Also guys, Bonerquest 2 has the most amazing tagline ever. I was letting someone play on my xbox live account, and they told someone "Revenge always comes." Considering that the plot has to do with revenge and coming, how could I not use the line. Seriously, what a great line.

One last thing for Topher: Gradius V yes or no? I'm looking into it and R-Type Final. And for some reason Gradius V was really expensive on amazon.

Not to make a long post longer, but Topher brought up an excellent point that I've tried to make about new games on Retrforce. The only thing stopping you from beating a new game is time. The only thing stopping you from beating Ninja Gaiden or Castlevania is their gameplay. Discuss. Should a game be forgiving or should a game be difficult?

@Timdabrat

I had considered doing a film version of Bonerquest actually. As with everything I do, a movie version seems to enter into that fantasy. If I could gather together enough people to play the main cast from the game, I would do as straight an adaptation as possible of the material. Of course I would have to overdub everyone's voice and probably play some parts myself, but it could be fun to do.

What do you think is the most disappointing aspect of the current-generation of games/consoles? I personally think the lack of AI advancement is a shame. With all this new processing power it's sad to see AI worse than AI on PS1 games. Or do you guy's think the new trend of "short but gorgeous looking" games is the worst new thing?

does hollywood have any right to blame games for lack of sales, considering theaters (minus imax) have not evolved in any way other than ticket prices going up. games constantly evolve and the only money making movies tend to be (minus dark knight) cgi tit fest movies. and with bluray and hdtv's now people can have a better quality experience in their own homes. can the theater make a come-back or will they just continue to blame games and not evolve past the popcorn. we still sit in the same theater liquid stained seats they put in 10-20 years ago but the movies 10-20 years ago were really enjoyable to watch.

Is it just me, or are indie games becoming more unoriginal over time? I've not got much time to go into my point; I'm at work, but after playing Maw and World of Goo, it just seems that I've played these before in some form. Anyone else feel the same?

Do you ever feel that perhaps the general gaming atmosphere is too pessimistic?

For example, its seems Mirrors Edge got shat on because of gameplay issues. Never-mind the fact that it was trying something new and Dice will learn there lesson to improve upon it if they ever made a sequel.

Silent hill 5 got shat on because it was too combat intensive. But its a franchise that has up until now lived with Resident Evil 1. It may not of been the best direction, but at least its a new direction.

My question is, It always seems that games get the boot if they are not near flawless. People scream and whine for innovation but when it comes in an experimental form, a form that is new and has yet to be tested, people disregard it. I suppose thats what makes valve so good, is there constant play testing. But should we be more thankful for the games we have?

Okay, here's a tough question. A few weeks back you guys were all too quick to place the blame for new IPs faltering on the causal crowd and their WiiFit/Madden/Guitar Hero buying tendacies. But don't you guys think at least SOME of the blame can be placed on the "hardcore gamers" of the world? After all, as much as I hate the Madden buying public, I've yet to overhear one say "I'll wait until it's $30" whereas that exact same phrase has been used many, many times in regards to Bioshock, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Valkaria Chronicles, etc. Do you think "waiting until" price tactics common in the hardcore gaming culture has a damaging effect on the industry as well? After all, the casuals aren't exactly running out and saying "Hmmm, Guitar Hero Metallica will be $30 if I wait long enough."

Do you ever make jokes, even if you know ahead of time that they're not funny and might make people feel awkward? Like when someone treats you to dinner or something and sarcastically asks you to pay for it when you get up to the cash register?

I just finished my last math class in college, and our math teacher was a pretty large guy. He would write a question up on the board, then write the answer near it and stand in front of it (in order to block it). He'd then say something like "This is one of the advantages of being fat, I guess!" and everyone would just bite thier lip and look away.

Whenever I get my hair cut, I find I literally can't hold myself back from making a really lame and socially awkward joke: When the barber (usually female) finishes up and holds the mirror behind my head, I always say something stupid like "Looks good, but you took to much off the top in the back!" She'll look confused for a second, and then realize that I'm referring to the ever-growing bald spot on the back of my head before forcing a smile and a light chuckle. Why do I keep doing that?!

I've been playing more and more of Chrono Trigger on the DS because I never got around to playing it on the SNES
Someone then told me I was "jumping on the bandwagon that started years ago" to which I punched them in the face

So my question is:
Have you ever played quite an old game and been accused of being a "glory supporter" because you didn't pick it up originally? What was it and how did you feel about it?

Also
How much on a scale of 1 to bloody pulp do you want to punch purists in the face?

- What's better looking right now to you, Infamous or Proto-type
- Do you have any hope for Afro Samurai being a decent game
- Are you at all interested in Way of the Samurai 3 getting released in the States?
- Are you *really* interested in The Conduit? Honestly?
- Does Hard Rain do anything for you, (did Indigo Prophecy do anything for you?)
- What's the deal with PB Winterbottm anyway?

This is sort of a general question. I've been thinking about movies made from games, and how most of them don't do too well. Which got me to thinking. Is it because of the die hard fans (or any fans for that matter) that hate seeing the director try to take it in a different direction and adding or subtracting from the story, or is it the fact that they just generally don't know what they are doing. If that is so, why are other movies so good? Is it trying to live up to expectation or failing to make a good movie that results in the abominations we see?

Anthony, should games be rewarded for good voice acting even if the script is horrible? How 'bout dem Yankees? I believe Kingdom Hearts is a prime example of this.

Topher, sup?

Aaron, what's with your fascination of boners? Every podcast all that comes out of your mouth "Boner boner boner" and ironically a bit of cum. I mean, to go as far as single-handedly develop a game about boners is way past the line of obsession. What made you this way? Were you flaccid as a child? With Resident Evil 5 forgoing the the Resident Evil tradition of using typewriters as save points for a check point sytem, this brings up the question of which is better; save points/areas or check points. Personally I perfer a save point system as it makes the player sure of where the last save was.

Powder is mine, and if you have an R4 you owe it to yourself to try the DS version.

If you want to add flash games to the mix, I'd go with Brink of Alienation 3, which while 'generic' as fuck, is entertaining is exactly the same caliber.

I was recently playing Persona 4 and I noticed that during the main course of the game you are given the option of ending the game by (I'm trying to avoid spoilers here) skipping three months of game time and ending your visit to Inaba, skipping approximately 10-15 hours of game play. Do you think more games should offer this bailout feature, a way to stop playing the game earlier on while still having the feeling that the main conflict has been resolved, albeit poorly?

Just concerning an issue brought up in last week's podtoid, you guys were discussing the issue of Miyamoto's patent on a gameplay (or lack thereof) idea of using in game video walk-throughs to help the player, and they can jump in at any time. I forgot who said it, but someone was disturbed that "ideas" were able to be patented in games. I don't know if this goes along with what you guys were discussing, but the Active Time Battle system used in Final Fantasy was patented back in 1995. (link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_fantasy#Battle_system)

Just wondering if this fits the bill as part of the fears you guys were discussing.

Second question is have you guys ever played Home Alone for the Genesis? Its not half bad as you set traps for the "wet bandits" in houses they're going to burglarize.

The AJO is to run on two separate Vsites at Manchester called A and B. Describe how the Unicore Protocol Layer would ensure that this was consigned securely across the open internet between the client and Manchester and how the AJO would be incarnated at A and B.
