Quantcast

Tonight, Aaron Linde, Jim Sterling, Topher Cantler and I will talk about some stuff that isn't related to Valve (like the PETA Cooking Mama parody), but mostly stuff that is related to Valve (like Left 4 Dead).

We would, as always, appreciate any and all regular questions, Der Sïëgëlpüntz™, and BonerQuestions™ you have for us. As always, the person who asks the best question will win some neat swag.

Anyway, hit the jump and get to askin' and puntzin' and bonerquestin'.

What are your prefered special zombies to play as in versus mode in L4D? I personally like the smoker the best.

in L4D, do you prefer campaign or versus?

would you like to see a L4d LBP stage?

Which Half-Life episode is your favorite?

Can Valve make a shitty game?

Have any of you come up with your own creative ways to demolish zombie hordes or kill tank/special infected that you would like to share?

or are your zombie survival tactics a secret... you selfish bastards!

With Fallout 3 recently released, it was named by many "Like Oblivion, but with guns." My question is, will BonerQuest be more "Like Oblivion, but with more Cocks" or "Like Final Fantasy, but with more Cocks"?

I'm curious as to how each of you would respond to the "Left 4 Dead is a generic/glorified mod" argument.

I personally don't think it is, but I understand where those people are coming from. Do they have reason for this, or are just being shallow?

Left 4 Dead: best zombie game ever, or most expensive HL2 mod ever? Everyone seems to complain about the fact that this is basically the old SDK game (the name escapes me), but published by Valve and given a price tag. Is the price right for this game, or would it have been better placed in a new Valve compilation, alongside HL2:Episode 3, in an Orange-Box-like package?

Valve has received alot of praise for its interactive storytelling, especially when First-Person games are involved, however in my opinion games like Mass Effect or Fallout 3 are able to allow you to interact with other characters in the story in a much more impactful way, but at the cost of intrusive dialogue menus.

My question is, do you find a more linear scripted story with a silent protaginist, or a branching storyarch with visible seams more appealing?

"Don't get left behind, get Left 4 Dead!"

I'm so, so sorry.

Anyway, do you think the lack of any real story in Left 4 Dead is an issue? I'm not sure it needs one really, but a final boss, some resolution, or even a cliffhanger would have been a nice to round off a fine game.

Not that i really take much notice personally to any game of the year lists/awards but....

Do you think a game such as L4D has enough to be considered game of the year, be it as a personal choice or a more official award.

Taking into account the games sheer enjoyment value over its percieved lack of content.

In your review for Left 4 Dead, you went into detail over how the versus part of the game felt too weighted against the survivors and that in comparison to the campaign, it was lacking the same feel. Despite this, I found it refreshing to play the opposing side of the game refreshing, especially since the game play mechanics changed so drastically between the boss infected and the survivors.

My question is this: is there any plans or interest in adding a versus campaign mode in BonerQuest? Perhaps one could take control of the various monsters and put up some resistance to their inevitable fate(i.e. press "X" to say "No", press "B" to scream for help, press "Y" to consent, etc) to give the game a new feel and more replay value?

1. On review scores, does a five mean "average" or "mediocre"? This is really at the crux of the entire debate, and I've yet to get a definitive answer on it.

2. Aaron, how does it feel to know that Viagra has already beaten you to the punch when it comes to boner-themed video games? Do you plan to sue for copyright and/or plagiarism? And does Viva Cruiser's ultimate canning bode poorly on the chance of eventual release of your magnum opus?

I also wanted to ask where you see Valve going next.

Aside from prolonged support of games like TF2 and L4D, they only have Portal 2 and HL2:EP3 on their to do list. Of course, if Valve is Valve, they will have an original IP (L4D, Portal) appearing somewhere in the new future.

What do you expect them to explore? What else could we possibly need in life aside from zombie apocalypse simulators?

I'd like to see a Jurassic Park-esque horror game...If theres anything else I've ever dreamed aside from zombies about it was dinosaurs taking over the world.

Question - Left 4 Dead's Louis. How fucking awesome? "Grabin' pills"

On a serious note, do you think that the new DLC for Fable 2 and GTA IV will be worth the purchase like the Shivering Isles DLC for Oblivion or just a cash cow?

BonerQuestions: How many hours of game play will this game require(10?,30?,50+?).
Will it have rpg elements for customization, or will it just be simple straight-forward gameplay?
What are the possibilities for sequels/prequels/spinoffs (ErectionOdyssey, Skin Shaft Solid, Tower of Dick)?
On a more real side note, Do you think that games like Left 4 Dead will pave a new road for co-op-centric games, or will developers look at this and say "Nah...?"

If you could create a New Special Infected that would be put in the game, What kind of Infected would you want to see.
What kind of special abilities would it have?

EX: Giant Zombie Boner that stabs survivors in the eyes,

but seriously though if you can add a new infected, what would you want to see?

Have any of you been successful in beating 1 or all of the campaigns on Expert?

I find it impossible unless you have 4 humans. The expert AI for the survivors seems dumbed down greatly from the lower difficulties.

I would like to get your opinions on this: I thought of a way to make this whole "Buy New Vs Buy Used" debate go away (or get closure). Here is what I would propose...

All the game would be on the disc and the content that would end up being DLC (with a code to use it) would be the multiplayer portion of the game. If you sell your game, you still get to keep the Multiplayer portion (you own the license for it) and the guy who buys your used game (from you or that pawnshop everybody knows) get the complete single player game and could buy the multiplayer from the marketplace or online store (maybe 20$).

People who dont care about the single player campaign could buy the multiplayer as a dlc stand-alone, thus bringing (maybe) more poeple into the games.
Game creators could make more money this way, on that kind of DLC and also with map packs.

This would only hurt people who are renting games...

One other thing I would do is that game publishers should come to an agreement with used game sellers about how "quickly" games could become available as used products... I would go with a whole month where a new release could not be sold used... This whould end the whole 5$ cheaper used game during launch week.

A show about Valve? Doesn't sound much different then most weeks. Why does Valve seem to get a free pass on everything among game bloggers and journalists? For example; Left 4 dead while being a solid muliplayer game has a preatty thin single player with not much to do after one play through, which at a $60 price point (or 50 if you, like myself, only play shooters on a PC) it seems a bit too expensive.

The half-life series also gets these passes, HL2 Episode 1 was a very expensive expansion pack which only took you through the same rehashed environments for a couple hours and gave you only a few moments of interesting plot. And lets not even talk about the god-awful vehicle sections.

My personal opinion on the Half-Life series (which believe it or not I like) is that the story is contrived shit (aliens invade the world and its up to one guy to save it) but the WRITING and CHARACTERS are brilliantly done in voice acting and scripting.

So is that why most people give valve a free pass on the terrible vehicle sections and bland settings? Effort and character writing?

Heres a tough question for you all:
What do you guys think Valve's worst game is?

Also Valve should work on a Bonerquest expansion called "Bonerquest: Blue Shaft", where you play a police officer attempting to stop the Bonerquest protagonist from boning everybody while trying to avoid getting raped himself.

Your thoughts?

Here's a question:

Valve seems to be a developer I can rely on to come out with a quality product, whether or not it happens to be my 'thing'. Developers like that don't come along very often, the last time I remember it was Lucasarts in their heyday.

Are there any other current developers who you can think of where you know you're getting a well-crafted product before you even see it? Or would you argue that Valve isn't quite there for you, yet (and why)?

How awesome is Valve for making a PC shooter with split screen support(if you don't know how to, then [url=http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=745113&highlight=split]here's a link to instructions on how to[/url)?

Do you feel that Valve left the split screen code in the PC version because they really plan to patch it officially in, or did they know their PC user base well enough to predict that they would eventually be able to get it working themselves(like in the link above)?
