Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Did I post this video before? I can't remember. It gets better after the first two minutes.

Anyway, Podtoid 65 records tonight, featuring Jim Sterling, Aaron Linde, and Samit Sarkar. We'll be talking about vomit-inducing MMOs, fatass gamers, and other random news bits.

There's no sonnet theme this week, because Aaron Linde is still recoiling from the last one.

Just ask us whatever is on your mind, and the question which results in the best discussion will get you $25, which you can then add to your PAX travel fund.

EDIT: I lied! Rather than getting a boring-ass $25, you'll be getting an awesome piece of swag of your choice!

Now that the hype is dying down, what are you opinions on Braid after you've beat it. Personally I found it ridiculously boring during the speed-runs since I knew the solutions to every puzzle.

Fable II: Pub Games, is it a lame cash-in, or a clever way to get people to pre-order Fable II?

OR IS IT BOTH?

With the talk of MMOs, it is possible to create an MMORPG that will cater to the casual crowd?

My friend was bemoaning the large amount of similarities between PC games nowadays and asked me if I could suggest anything a bit more original for him to try playing. So I'm going to pass the question onto you fine folks, do you guys have any particular favorite lesser-known PC titles that really set themselves apart by doing something different?

I got to thinking about product placement and there ability to make a game more realistic. However, I realized the problem with these ads that subtract from realism is that there are too few of them. To have a game that creates a realistic world paralleling our own the ad's would have to be endlessly diverse. You can't have one soda in the game you need like twenty and having one type of car zooming around would hurt the realism so we would need atleast a dozen or so different car companies. So my question is there anyway to allow ads to add to this realism without out requiring a landslide of diverse ads or is it the only way it could work.

I was listening to the RFOG podcast on Chrono Trigger. I myself have never completed the game, since I had actually reached a boss (one way in the future, found in the tunnels) and got amazingly frustrated, so I quit and never played it again. Later on in life, I hear the game's all great and that i had reached a boss who I wasn't supposed to fight yet, so I thought i might give it another go. What "epic game" have you guys ever totally quit on that you ever came back to or currently wish to revisit?

I was just wondering you guys think World of Warcraft will ever be taken down from the position as the number one MMO?

Also, do you think a game like Psychonauts would have sold millions if they would have marketed it?

I was listening to a few of the older podtoids, and Anthony was talking about Charles Barkley Gaiden. I downloaded it and just wanted to say it is ridiculously awesome.
So yeah, Anthony if you even remember this game, how great would it be for a current-gen 3D remake.
Like Lost Odyssey, but you know with Charles Barkley, and lots of balls.

As someone who genuinely loves Video games, I am tremendously thankful that the man trying hardest to "destroy" the industry is so preposterously incompetent. I think anyone with even a meager knowledge of actual video games could do more real damage than that overconfident nitwit.
So, I put it to you: with your intricate knowledge of all things video games, how would you go about destroying video games forever? What weird, horrible secrets that game players like to high would you use to bring the hammer down on the industry? Remember, every instance of racism, sexism, homophobia and ignorance counts. How many different ways can you think of?
As a fun little meta-game, see which one of you podtoiders can destroy the video game industry in the least number of steps!

I know that Anthony has been really vocal in the past about 'art games' and their place (or lack thereof) within the mainstream. Do you think that a game like Braid has the potential to inspire more games that would be considered 'artful' due to things other than pretty cell-shaded graphics?

If Braid is successful, do you think it will open the door for more publishers to put (insert game name here) 2,3,4 at a higher price despite it not being worth shit? (Even though John Blow is still in the poor house apparently.)

Also, seriously, why is Journey like the best band ever?

When is it ok to "kill" discontinue and MMO ? what about players that are still paying ? do they have any rights or any saying ? SOE I'm looking at you >_< since they simply disconnect theire servers its not like they just don't deliver any more expansions. I'm talking about taking down the games website.

MMO's have always been about Flashing your E-Peen and comparing lengths with your fellow players. This concept has been brought over to console gaming thanks largely to the concepts of achievements and gamer scores that were introduced with the 360. With the PS3's (upcoming?) trophy system and World of Warcraft's upcoming in game achievement system, how long do you estimate it will be before we all turn into pathetic wretches who over compensate for our social shortcomings by comparing the sizes of our digital dongs?

I've got two Braid inspired questions-

1)How did you feel about the political themes and is this something you would enjoy/tolerate in other games? why/why not?

Braid was the first game in a long, long while where I felt that music played a strong role in making the atmosphere of the game even more tangible for the player.

2)Given that musical taste is a personal choice what are some of the games that you played where you felt like the musical score was more than just an accompaniment? Is this something you think is or isn't being neglected in recent years? Examples?

With artists competing for spots on Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2 and bands such as Metallica releasing their songs on Marketplace etc for these games in conjunction with the retail release, do you think that games like Rock Band 2 are becoming the next step up from the iTunes store phenomena and if not, how long will it take? (because we all know it's inevitable with the announcement of GH Tunes)

Holy crap, I just told a lie. Here's a question, inspired by mikeyed:

There's about three games of mine that I've given up on beating recently: Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings; Final Fantasy Tactics A2, and Contra 4. In all three cases, I got to the very end, but the last boss/battle was so incredibly difficult that I waved my white flag of defeat and moved on to the next game.

Have any of you ever played a game that you never finished, but still put them back on your shelf, satisfied and convinced that you got your money's worth? Do you think that you have to complete a game to be done with it?

This of course does not include shitty games; I was done with Harry Potter 5 fifteen minutes after I started playing, but you can rest assured it didn't stay with my collection for long.

Thanks.

Wouldn't an MMO with Braid's ideas on time manipulation be exceptionally fascinating?

The way I see it, its multiple people jumping back in time on a very localized field of action memory, supporting or undoing the progress their team is making toward a goal. Having an MMO world where player death was not relevant, and could just be recanted via extraction to a previous coordinate point in that player's local history.

The caveat being you phase out for the time you're doing your time manipulation thing. You can't be affected, but you come out of that pahse with the results of your time romp.

My DS is the only system that has continued to please me. I'd much rather play shooting games on my PC than my 360, PS3 only seems to have one game going for it right now (MGS4), and I don't use my Wii except to play Super Smash Bros. Melee. I know I haven't mentioned the PSP, but it goes without mention that it is bad.

So, I ask you this, what system has continued to please you through the time you have had it?

With the recent FFXI Absolute Virtue/Pandemonium Warden story, the game seems to have somewhat crawled out from under WoW's shadow, at least just for a few days. Can stories like this actually help the game gain new players looking for a challenge? Or will it just ensure that FFXI will continue to hemorrhage players at a faster rate than they can gain them?

As much as I enjoyed Braid, I kept wanting MORE. Are you disappointed that Jonathan Blow has claimed he has no plans for Braid SLC, or do you think DLC would tarnish the experience?

Question time:

1.) Is EA Sports' current structure of releasing a new Madden/NCAA Football/etc. title every 12 months resulting in the number of glitches we are seeing in these games? Is 12 months a long enough development cycle for these kinds of games? What would you like to see change in this genre? Why?

2.)I mentioned this before, but with the recent cuts at NCSoft and Midway's Austin studios, is the gaming industry in for a crunch or recession? Has it been in one for a while and we just have not bothered to take a look? If so, what is to blame? Ballooning budgets? Increased sales expectations and titles falling short? Just too many games being made in quick succession?

Romance and sexuality in video games has always been a hot topic, most games have badly done romances with no amount of physical intimacy for fear of media assault. Mass Effect did a good job of making the romance seem somewhat natural, or at least as natural as a romance can get when two characters flirt by standing three to five feet apart with blank expressions and deadpan voices.

Well I can deal with the lack of seeing the characters of a game hold hands or hug there is one thing that bothers me: Why do you think that most games which include an optional romance plot allow for only heterosexual and lesbian relationships? Can the industry even claim to be a progressive and open minded industry where the selling points are guns, guts, and tits. And will we ever see a serious take on homosexual relationships in games?

2 Questions:

1. How do you feel about the label "Gamer"? Personally, I dislike it. It feels way to much like a marketing term. It makes me feel like a target demographic, which I know I am, in a way, but it just feels kind of...shallow. Besides games, I really like to read, but I don't consider myself a "Reader". Also, I mean no disrespect to anyone who identifies with the label, its just a personal thing.

2. Have we become so fucking spoiled and demanding that we now tell people who actually make games for us to "go fuck themselves" to their face (sort of) when their efforts do not please us? How Mr. Bernard reacted is irrelevant to this question, even though he went very very low in blaming his programmer, but that is not the point. I feel like the DToid "shitstorm" was a very effective mirror for a prevailing attitude among the general community. What I am asking is, what does this reaction say about us? Is that how "Gamers" react to dissapointment? Don't we not want the medium to be seen as "child's entertainment"?

Ok, Too Human totally deserves it though.

Yesterday some guy from Gearbox Studios was quoted as saying that feeling felt while playing a game are more important than the length of said game (although he probably put it more eloquently.) In the era of epic 100 hour RPGs and open world games that last even longer, where do you stand on the length of games? Are you on the side that since a games are rather pricey, they should last as long as possible, or would rather have more concise game that provide a rich experience with out any fluffing but that are consequently much shorter, but for the same price?

With the shitstorms over reviews and "journalistic" integrity coming up so much in the video game industry lately, do you guys feel we should begin to critique games in a more in depth manner akin to movies, music, and literature, rather than just "It's got good blood and boobs shooting shit is easy 10/10"?

What I'm asking is, do you think a game's intellectual merits should impact the review score in a more significant way, be it negative or positive?

Also, do you think it is alright to rape a fetus? I'm pro fetus rape.
