Quantcast

I honestly don't care what anyone says: "skadoosh" is the funniest onomatopoeia ever.

Not that I didn't really, really enjoy having Topher, Chad, and Ashley on, but it's nice to know that I'll be able to trade barbs with Aaron, hear disgusting things from Jim, and tell Tiff to shut her whore mouth before she can get two syllables out of it.

Feels like home.

Anyway, we record tonight, and need some questions. We'll be talking about a crapload of random news stories in addition to this month's Musings theme, so make your questions about whatever you darn well please. The best question nets its asker (that's a word, right? It should be a word) $25. As always.

This week's sonnet theme is, "monkeys are a satire of humans," based on Jim's incisive observation last week.

[UPDATE: Evidently, Aaron can't make it tonight. The lovely Colette Bennett will be filling in for him.]

Sonnet ahoy.

Mimicking us in many ways they seem
to be smaller versions of us but not.
With smaller heads and hair where nature deems,
compared to them we look a clean cut lot.

Give one a stick and he’ll hit someone close
to please himself and get a reaction.
The other will return this with a dose
of feces instead of legal action.

Dress one in a suit with jacket and tie.
Give him a briefcase and see what happens.
He will scream and flail at any nearby,
at hippies, bums, and guys in cardigans.

And even with our culture and studies
we, ourselves, are no more than shaved monkeys.

I'm in a random mood, so here is a random question:

This is a list of films that most frequently use the word "fuck". Can you construct a similar list for video games?

Why are Jack Black's movies so good/bad? They're corny, yet funny. I don't know if I should love them or hate them.

I've been playing Half Life 2 through for the first time this last week, and I've been noticing that although I love the game and am having a great time, I feel like I'm in a big rush to get through it, like I just want it to end so I can feel complete. I was wondering if you guys felt the same way when playing games, even games you're having a great time with. Do you ever have that urge to just get to the end so you can say "I've made it?" Or should I feel like a pathetic joyless human being?

Question: Do you think that drugs should be developed that can further immerse you into a game? I mean what if there was something that worked on the same sort of level as a real mind bender like LSD, but didn't have any physically addictive qualities or terrible side effects.

Except for maybe a little severe rectal tearing.

Just a little.

If any of you played the demo for The Bourne Conspiracy, do you feel that it suffered from a Babe complex (something trying to be something else)? It just felt like a movie pretending to be a game (quick camera changes, constant cutscenes).

So how do you feel about games publishers restricting what you can and can't say in a review? Are they perfectly within their rights to get the best possible publicity for their game or are they just being really shity to the consumers?

Why have games been getting easier and easier overtime ? is this thanks to the graphics whores? the sports jocks ? casual gamers?

Why are developers FORCING you into the fucking 30 minute game tutorial? I mean I KNOW this key does that, I remember when I was younger and my parents bought me a game, I used the time it took to drive back home to read through the entire game manual, are kids so dumb now they can't read ? or are they just to busy fiddling with their "portable" gaming?

Will community members ever get invited to speak on podtoid?

Sorry if any of these where asked before.

What characteristics do you guys think made Assassin's Creed one of the greatest games ever made and how could a future game be as good if not better than Assassin's Creed?

In my opinion, Assassin's creed is the perfect video game so no other games could possibly live up to it.

I always think of really poignant questions at various times throughout the week, and then forget them when these posts show up. Maybe I should write them down.

Stupid question, inspired by dream last night of me playing Super Mario Bros. 3: do you ever have dreams that you are either in video games or playing video games, and do you have any memories worth talking about?

Because he's kind of ammo for pro-game people's arguments.

Okay firstly, Jack Thompson walked out on his disbarment case

discuss.

Secondly, I asked this last week, only to realize that I was over a day late. OKAY.

With the industry quickly approaching Hollywood status, do you guys fell threatened? As Hollywood has an affinity for remaking and often masacring nostalgic media, and the more recent 'rebirth' trend in games (earthworm jim, slaughterhouse, banjo kazooie, nights, etc etc)

Any ways, I guess what I'm getting at is with this mainstreaming of games is quality in danger, is the bottom line becoming too important?

Ubisofts Wii line up, to me, is an example of the bottom line poisoning games...But of course those games sell, and maybe I'm just frustrated because they aren't for me...

not sure if this is much of a question so...

Is the Hollywood model threatening to gamers/the industry? Will this make the indie movement all the more important/potent?

yay for recycling questions. Also, search function.

Hey all,
The new RE5 trailer resurrecting discussions on the offense it caused due to the game's percieved racist undertones, and this got me thinking. Is there a game you have played that you have been genuinely offended by?

I guess you can mention games that have offended you as a gamer by sheer poor game design, but what about games who's content may have offended you on a personal level? Have you ever played a game so offensive to your values that you felt almost compelled to go on a Jack-Thompson style crusade to smite this game from the face of the earth?

I hate, at the end of the day, I have nothing left. No whitty comments to bless your minds and souls with (sorry Jim you have no soul). They seem to be wasted away on the females within the office, who in the end, still won't sleep with me. Which I guess is good, cause thats why I had to leave my last job.

BTW glad to see the crew is all back!

Anthony: Why is hatred all we know?
Tiff: Grow some balls. Figuratively, not the wrinkley harry kind you have to shave just to get girls to put them in their mouths.
Aaron: Don't be so down on you man-boobs, just got mine and they're great!
Jim: I'm just wondering, do you salivate when you talk?

Is any game worth one thousand dollars? What would make any game worth that much?

consider: A Warhol painting is worth Millions. (why?)

maybe I should extrapolate. Will games ever get to the point, or can you see there ever being a game that is so sought after and appreciated that it's worth inheritly surpasses it's value by the margin of something like a painting. That game would probably have to be a one of a kind hm?

Question, if Miyamoto made a game, and only produced 3 copies, what would it be worth. I am- so bored.

After seeing that trailer a week or two ago, "skadoosh" has become my new catch phrase of choice.

In the current generation of gaming consoles, especially alongside the recent influx of "casual" games, are any gaming genres falling by the wayside? If so, what can be done to revitalize them and reinsert them into the mainstream of gaming?

With news of Bioshock sequel(s), and the movie being more than likely. What do you see next? Imagine a "Rapture" theme park! Actually, that would be pretty badass.

Also, Jim, why so hostile towards Topher?

Its no secret that we are currently in some what tough economic times. With that in mind do you think that the video game industry can continue the trend of games with higher and higher production values which are passed along to the consumer($60 new game compared to $50 game of last gen) or are big budget games like GTA4 proof this is a non existent issue? Do you also think that consoles being more and more expensive could hurt the industry in the coming generations of hardware? Or will they learn their lesson or will people, mostly the "hardcore", support them until a price drop?

Few questions:

0: Just why is Nicole Weibe loved so much by you guys again? I've forgotten which Podtoid it's talked about in, and I don't have enough time to go listen to all of them. Maybe if I could get some answers...?

1(Real Questions start here): How excited are you guys for Beyond Good and Evil 2, knowing that it may take place in a different area, and that it'll appease more to the Casual Gamers? Would this be bad, or good?

2: What are your impressions of Ninja Gaiden 2? This is more for everyone except Jim, since it's not coming out in Europe for a day or two (But you got the Demo). Does it hold up against it's predecessors?

3: I'm thinking of getting a 360 for my Birthday. What games do you think I should get along with it, if I do get the system?

Hey Podtoid glad to see the crew is back alright my questions

1. Now we know that you guys are all pretty big Metal Gear Solid Fans so I can see having a Metal Gear Solid 4 Review on Destructoid so who is going to get the honors of writing it?

2. Also with so much Resident Evil 5 information going around it's on my mind so I was just wondering what you guys think of the whole so kind racist thing do you think by the time it comes out it is going to be toned down just a bit? and if so do you think 'they' won?

The drunken monkey sways to and fro,
It falls from a tree,
It stole your beer about an hour ago,
Now in the street he has a wee,

Cars swerve as he runs out onto the road,
His little waistcoat blowing in the night,
This thrill will never get old,
A man looks at him so he starts a fight,

Blue lights radiate in the night,
Our suspect fleas the scene,
He turns around to throw his own shite,
At the nearest person to be seen,

The drunken monkey sways to and fro,
The zoo keepers bullet wounds, and he will die slow

I acually have one more question

1. I saw the article about Eight Days and The Getaway getting cancelled and maybe it is because of money but mostly likly it was turning out to be very good games. That makes me think with all the bad games that do come out how bad does a game have to be to be cancelled. Do you think that they should just come out with the games anyway? or do you think they should accually cancel more games to stop wasting our time with crappy games?

Does Platinum Games remind you of Treasure?

They both broke off of bigger companies (Capcom and Konami). They've both made excellent and very unique games (although granted Platinum has only made games under the Clover name so far).

But here's the biggest coincidence.

Platinum Games signed a publishing deal with Sega, and when I looked at the Wiki for Treasure I saw that all their first games were published by Sega as well.

Just speaking my mind here.

1. Why is Ubi's upcoming Wii lineup so fucking stupid and pointless? Rather, at what point does a company completely abandon self-respect and come right out to admit that they're in it strictly for the money?

2. Based on your experience with Nintendo, do you think they'll ever address the paltry stroage space and release a solution, or do you think they're absolutely serious and that we should just continue to shuffle our Wii's memory every time we want to make a game save?

3. Tiff: Do you enjoy being on podtoid because of the abuse, or despite it?

That is all.

OH! Wait:

4. If anyone here watched Homestar Runner, you know how Strongbad groans every time someone feels the need to throw an obligatory "Crapfully yours" at the end of each letter? If so, do you have a similar reaction every time some caps a letter with "also, cocks?"

Seriously, all done.
