FIrstly, the above video contains the best non-remixed rendition of the MGS2 theme I've ever heard.
Secondly, after what feels like months we're finally ready to record Podtoid's 50th episode tonight at 7pm EST. There will be laughter, discussion, and given the fact that 3/4 of the cast loves Metal Gear Solid more than their own family, probably a lot of nerdy circle-jerking.
There will also be some neat additional stuff you won't get to hear until tomorrow.
But anyway, we need questions: if you asked some Solid-related questions of RFGO! this Sunday and didn't get them answered, then now is the time to throw those out. Any and everything related to the MGS series is up for grabs (except for "David Hayter, will you marry me" because I already have dibs on that one).
As always, the best question nabs the winner $25, so hit the comments and start askin', already.
Looking forward to the show.
Also do you think MGS4 will bring a satifactory conclusion to the unfinished stories of the MGS universe?
Right, question. Do you think the series would've had the success its had without introducing the Soliton Radar System in MGS1?
I saw it the first time in the PSX-version of the game ( also my first metal gear game... ), I was like "Wooooooooooow this dude is one badass-adicted smoker..." then I went to get my brother ( also an avid smoker ) and restarted the scene, then we both realised that we were pussies for smugling joints in our bathing-pants into the pool at center-parcs... (to smoke in the outside part of the wild-water-run )
How big of an impact do you think MGS4 is going to make on the gaming industry as we know it? If so, what part of the industry (story driven games, gun play, sneaking, etc) is going to feel it the most? Is this game more on the terms of revolutionary, or more as an enhancer to the already great genre?
Also, what are your thoughts on Metal Gear Online? Regardless of the fact they fucked up the beta, should it ever have been made? Lot's of games do fine without multiplayer (BioShock) and lot's of games are all right, but then have shitty-ass multiplayer tacked on which brings the whole game down a notch (Condemned 2).
Fuck Jim.
It's been more than 20 years of MG, and they keep adding more story excellence in each game. But there is something else. Do you think the series is more well known because of the gameplay or more because of the story? Also, which one do you think it should develop more? The gameplay or the story? If there is anything else you could add to the series, what would it be?
Something even better than that is going down tonight.
Trust me -- you ALL need to listen to this episode. It's going to be ASTOUNDING.
Even though big boss was killed in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, is there any chance they will bring him back to life in MGS4?
Would they include an old person love scene (mayonnaise optional) between Big Boss and Eva in which you'd have to balance the sixaxis precisely or Big Boss breaks a hip?
Was Otacon having sex with his sister?
More annoying: MGS controls or Rose in MGS2?
Meryl or Eva?
Does Jim refer to his genetals as European Extreme?
Since he looks badass I was wondering if they might make a spinoff series or something (assuming he doesn't get capped by the end).
Also, give ArrestedDeveloper the money.
you guys think without the whole Metal gear series, that the stealth type of game would exist....
and out of all the different games that try to copy the metal gear, has any of them ever done it right?
and more jim sterling as snake.
2) WTF is up with crotch grabbing Raiden, and do you think we'll get a repeat in NGS4?
3) What do you think about the fact that the meat of the Metal Gear Solid story is told through juicy, post credit stingers and events that the user takes no active part in? I'm thinking President Solidus, the true nature of the Patriots, Snake diving after a Metal Gear, Ocelot/Liquid jumping in here and there to talkk witty/crazy smack talk nonsense, etc
4) Zone of Enders. Do you think there's any actual connection between MGS and ZOE, or does that just completely exist just in the realm of fanfiction and design coincidences? (cockpit crotch, mechs with super weapons built into them, etc) Is Kojima crazy enough to have built the connection into the last game of the MGS series, or am I just seeing black zombies? (ie arguable interpretation of similarity of which weak to no statement of original artist intent has no tangible bearing on the argument)
5) A Hind D?
MGS was the first game where I suffered real gaming disconnect, I figured out the Metal Gear wasn't operational yet but Snake didn't, I was very reluctant to go on as I knew it would fuck over the world, but had to to see the rest of the game.
Does the fact that the story is non-interactive detract from the game for you guys? I know it did for me and even though I'd like to, I haven't been back to an MGS game since.
Snake Eater and Portable Ops develops Big Boss as the sympathetic character. Similarly, both games give more context as to the nature of The Patriots and who are the (possible) faces behind the name.
Conspiracy theory:
Major Zero ("the man with the same code name as Null") is strongly hinted at in portable ops (spoilers) to be one of the founders of The Patriots. Seems odd that he could be an important role yet only now are we given the clues to figure out who these people that we've been told about are.
and it was worth it.
OH SNAP!!
I mean seriously, the game is hilarious and has good boss fights and awesomeness... but the gameplay seems like UTTER SHIT, even with the free camera in Subsistence. I felt like the gameplay really did not update enough to go with the fact enemy soldiers could now see further than five feet in front of their face. That, and the largely outdoor environments just weren't doing the gameplay mechanics largely unchanged since MGS1 any favours.
And god... the fucking CQC system is the dumbest thing I've ever attempted to use in my life. I quickly gave up on it entirely and just stuck with silenced pistols. The analog feature of the PS2 buttons is one the worst things ever on a controller, it's just 99% of games don't use it.
That said, I'm still very excited for MGS4, I really believe the controls will finally be cleared up, and the active camo sounds to functionally solve the retardation of the camo system from MGS3.
Question two: We already know the cast of RFGO's FoxHound names, what are the cast of Podtoid's?
Also what's the difference between MGS3:Snake Eater and MGS3:Subsistences?
If you keep calling the Colonel on codec for help, he'll eventually get the idea and tell it to you.
Also, is all of this hinting a sign that David Hader himself is gonna be on the show or something?
Also, METAL GEAR AWESOME.
How about you go fuck yourself? None of those have anything significantly in common with the MGS series. And ou know we aren't supposed to say the "H" word.
And how do you feel on the subject of the game getting an -E- rating since the majority of MGS games have been mostly -M- rated, could nintendo could have played a role in this or could there have been obvious tech. limitations?
I mean, he stated it openly and honestly, which is respectable, but he didn't pinpoint any detriments exactly.
No, they have nothing to do with each other. Of course. It's s so obvious.
They're all just best-selling games that became the cornerstones of their developers and their respective platforms and have become synonomous with their systems.
I'm so very wrong. Just on so many levels.
In Metal Gear Solid's briefing video, Snake's hair is clearly blonde and they discuss having to change his hair because... he looks too much like Liquid.
So if Big Boss in MGS3 is clearly brunette, and with Snake and Liquid and Solidus (with his white hair) his clones.... why does hair color not translate during cloning, but combat skill does?
My real concern is whether Kojima's geneticist can prevent me from getting high cholesterol and balding? I would gladly change my hair into a mullet for these things.
..... NEXT TIME!
