Tus ojos son como la luna. Tu cara es como un perro.

This week we ("we" being the usual suspects -- Sterling, Chow, Linde and myself) be talking about a whole assload of random news-related stuff, as we are wont to do. Stuff about Spitzer, Brawl, swag, and the Holocaust will probably be discussed in some form or another.

As always, we need reader questions: ideally, reader questions which have nothing to do with any of the aforementioned subjects. This is a random, scattershot week, so we'd like random, scattershot (but still relevant and thought-provoking) questions.

This is basically a much nicer way of asking you not to ask nothing but Brawl-related questions.

Anyway, best question gets $25, etcetera etcetera. I'm going to get back to writing my review of the next Sam and Max episode while watching the Sam and Max animated series DVD and doing all number of other things related to Sam and Max.

I kinda already answered this question, but I'd like to see where you guys go with it:

What video game character best represents the presidential candidates running right now?

Mario Kart Wii is looking pretty weak next to Mario Kart DS. What's your take on it? Obvious B-Team effort?

The other day I was talking with my sister and I mentioned that I believe games are art. I thought she might try to object ar state that I was wrong, but suprisingly she agreed with me!

This made me wonder, we are always thinking about wether or not games are art but what do you think people on the outside believe? To them are games just things, "those kids do." or do they think games are art.

Here's one I'm just going to toss out.

Name the best book/movie/comic book story that can be adapted into a game and how would you make it not suck. (Like all movie adaptations do and how comic adaptations are just arcade beat-em-ups with awful stories)

So on brawl haha fuck you jim for being in europe jk. What characters would be your dream brawl characters form any franchise not just nintendo related. Also, do you think if microsoft or sony made a brawl-esque game with characters from their respective franchises do you think they'd be succesful are there even enough good characters for a game lie that?

Is set-top gaming ever coming? What's up with that?

And where's my flying car at? I'd settle for a hoverboard.

What does Jim think about the new UK budget announced today? Does he fear the cost of the extra 55p tax on spirits?

Also, Bioshock 2, yey or ney?

Settop gaming existed in the Sega Channel(Scientific Atlanta) but didn't take off. Stay in a hotel lately? Many places allow you to play games from your room using the same idea.

Also, I think I remember Pace buying rights to Sega's Dreamcast hardware and there being a rumored dreamcast settop from them that never saw the light of day.

@digtastik: Sure, there have been many other efforts besides the ones you mentioned too. But when will it be a viable alternative to buying a new console? Right now for the price of four nights in a hotel room playing N64 games, you can obtain a pretty good console. I think the value equation is still on the side of the console manufacturers.

Can I add to Surf314's question? Last week, you mentioned Hotel Dusk as a good idea for a movie adaption (Was it Linde?). I agree, but how would you go about making if you were put in charge? There's a lot of parts that would translate badly to the big screen, but what theme from the game would you run with?

Hmm, I think the question would be "What do you think of Nintendo with the position it has now in the industry since it's always playing it safe? In words, why are they sucking so much lately?"

Also, your Spanish is not so broken.

I imagine that when IPTV hits and every home has access to a larger data pipe it would be viable, but at that point, MS and Sony will likely be the settop provider.. isn't what they are positioning themselves for with their newer platforms anyway? Good question; it got me thinking.

Here's a question guys,
have you played an awesome game but the main character (or party character for RPGs) is just total fail? I mean a character so bad that the game would be infinitely better without that character's inclusion?

Discuss,
Also would a classic style Sam & Max game on the DS rock?
You know it's true :)

More to the point: would you be interested in a game involving political struggles, where you fight for/against special interests, scandals, and see if you can procure funding for your mayoral/gubernatorial/congressional/presidential campaign?

Are gamers who know of Hillary's pro-censorship views going to turn the election in favor of Obama?
I remember in 2000, I was a Bush supporter (though too young to vote back then), because Al Gore's running mate was Joe Lieberman. I remember seeing letters to gaming magazines that professed essentially the same logic, and other gamers talking about it.

I own a PS3 and a 360 but not a Wii because when I purchase a console I look for a system that will be more than just a console that can provide excellent drinking games, i.e. competitive gaming is serious business.
Will Brawl provide a competitive scene equal to that of Melee, or will the truly hardcore continue to play Melee similarly to how competitive gaming has stuck with CS 1.6 instead of upgrading to CS:Source?

With the ever increasing cost of making games, and the ever increasing risk that a game will not make a decent profit for the company who made it, do you think innovation in games will start to completely disappear (i.e. Namco not taking a risk on Katamari Darmacy), or do you think publishers might start looking to independent developers to find fresh concepts, (i.e. like how Narbacular Drop became Portal)?

Does Square Enix's announcement this week to reduce the amount of localisation times mean that we're just going to get shorter gaps between Japanese and western releases, or shorter gaps and more engrish?

Before the xbox 360, I can only recall paying $49.99 for new games. Now the current trend is $59.99 for current gen games. Given the current state of the economy, in what some are calling a period of stagflation (which is in short prices inflate and bad things happening) do you think the price of new games will go up in the near future? If not this, what will? The next generation of consoles? How much do you think gamers are willing to pay for certain games before they stop (is rock band worth it)?

Blizzard announced in game advertising within Starcraft 2's Battle.net system. Although this is only the interface of the game I still believe it will be annoyin.

Do you think that advertising belongs in games at all? Where in the game? and What companies should be allowed to do so?

My opinion is still very uneven but id like to know what you think.
Will we end up seeing a broken down McDonalds or Nike billboard in Silent Hill ? Fuck I hope not.

I know Anthony is a pretty big fan of indie games (I had the pleasure of playing World of Goo on his laptop in San Francisco), but there seems to be sentiment in the darkest reaches of the Internet that indie games are inherently better than "mainstream" games, since they can accurately convey an artistic vision, whereas big studio games get muddled not only by a large development team (too many cooks and so on), but also by the drive not to create something artistically relevant, but to create something explicitly to make money. Please comment on the longest run-on sentence I have ever written.

How do you create fear in video games without it becoming irritating?

I liked Resident Evil on the Hamcube (the typo looked cool so I left it), but certain elements that were obviously designed to create fear just pissed me off. The saving method for instance, is stupid for various reasons. If you had been given a limited number of quicksaves, and an infinite number of safe-room saves, the game would have been much, much better, easier to pick up and more engaging. The control scheme, the cutscenes and the inventory were all guilty of the same thing.

I believe one good way to create fear is through illusion. I loved the beginning of Penumbra Overture because you had no weapons to speak of, and you had no idea what the monsters looked like or how they'd kill your, etc. Games like this take away elements that you're comfortable with, and that makes you uncertain.

Why do you believe video game companies (*Ahem Ubisoft) keep making pet sim games (Babyz, Catz, Dogz, Porcupinz, Polar Bearz, etc.)? Of course, some money is to be had, but to see production put into a game that is not exactly there for anything other than to look cute, why are resources being poured more into these games than others like Ass Creed?

Also, also, if you're discussing the Holocaust, will Nex be a special guest star? He makes genocide delightful.
