I'd really, truly like to think that our listeners were disappointed to find that last week was completely Podtoid-free, but I don't believe that to be the case. More likely than not, you folks probably didn't even notice -- but whatever. I'm over it. I'll trick you bastards into loving us, I don't care how long it takes.

Anyway, this week we're going to be doing a (very, very) quick summary of our favorite GDC moments, along with discussing several random-as-hell news stories. But hey, who cares what we're discussing?

What matters is that you, dear friends, all have a chance to win 25 bucks if you ask the best listener question. If this week is as content-light as I fear it'll be, we might be reading an awful lot of your questions, so keep 'em coming. They can be about absolutely anything this week, as we probably won't have much of an overarching theme.

@ Anthony: What was the defining moment of your GDC experience and why?

Sure, it's nothing special, but I'd like to know.

I noticed and was sad.
Also, what would you guys want to see in a Dtoid game? Just curious since there seems to be a bunch in/starting development apparently, what with Wedge, Agent Moo, myself and apparently HawtPawkitHero's gonna get in on the action.

Judging from a video on GameTrailers, I've come to the conclusion that Cliffy B ("Maker" of Gears of War) is a complete asshole. He's full of himself in a way that I didn't think was possible. What do you guys think about Cliffy B? Do you think it's asshole-ish of him to not give credit to his team and take it all for himself? Do you think it's dick-ish of him to say that everything he touches is Gold? Do you think it's douche-ish of him to walk around with that fucking chainsaw gun replica? I know I sure do.

You skipped a week?

What's the best XBLA release of the last 4 weeks? Rez, Poker Smash, N+ or Triggerheart?

Do you think this GDC's strong indie developer backing will be a continuing trend in later conferences, or will more of them be picked up by more commercial developers?

Well to make up for the missing week you guys need to make this podToid incredibly EPIC.

Maybe discuss epic moments in games or something of the like?

Oh and in regards to the image and it's alt text, I see what you did there.

What are your opinions on XNA from talking to people at GDC and do you think it will one day produce the next indie hit that will recieve the same reception as a Portal.

Given that a good bit of GDC is all about the "next innovation", what's the one standard of modern game design that you want to see retired? Lives? Specific save points? The dreaded sewer level?

Again on GDC, now that the event has been "invitationalized" - that is, turned into a private function for media personae only - how do you think that will affect the exodus of information? Will the echo chamber function like it used to? How important will PAX become as the only - or one of the only - direct industry-to-consumer conferences?

Also, for you MotS whores: what do you think lives in Drew's beard?

Which downlodable content service (WiiWare, XBLA, and PSN) do you all feel had the best showing at GDC?

Folks who went to GDC last year, were the parties better or worse this year? Did Workman piss on the hotel?

There are loads of things I wanna ask but if I had to pcik one right now....

What aspects of gaming would you like to see improved over the next 10 years or so?

Personally, I'd like to see the standard of writing improve in a lot of narrative-based games.

Question:
I was speaking with a friend about Shadow of the Colossus, and commenting on how awesome of a game it was, bugs aside. Well, I happened to get over heard by a group of idiots that only believe that there's one game in existence, CoD4. Strangely enough, one of them decided to rant and rave about how much of a geek I was. So, here's the question: Are people who don't play the completely mainstream games doomed to forever be called geeks even if rattling off half a day of CoD4 is apparently acceptable, or have college students really gotten that stupid?

Whereas 2007 seems to have been the year of amazing big budget games (ie. Bioshock, HL2 Episode 2, COD4, Portal, etc. etc.), do you think that based on what you saw at GDC this year, that 2008 could be defined as the year of the indie game? If so, do you worry at all that the talented people behind these games will be bought up by the likes of EA or Activision, where their days will consist primarily of making the same crap over and over and/or eating babies?

Questions:

- So, Rev, When are you learning how to code in flash and start making games? I'm considering it, because I think I have good ideas, beyond reskinned Shmup #829.

- Is it really that bad if Nintendo started charging for online play? I mean, its not like it'll be a $15 a month MMO type service, right?

- People talk about XNA and Live becoming this YouTube for games, but, from my understanding, you still have to know how to code. Any idiot can make a youtube video. Do you think game design will ever become so easy a [Work]man could do it?

- Invitation only GDC and DICE: Is that going to make E For All anymore attractive than it should be?

- So Mini-Games are now established as a "thing" in the industry, and small quirky Indie Games (that end up being mini by nature) are really starting to bloom and come into their own. Does anyone else forsee and fear a weird time for gaming on the horizon, with metric tons of pretentious-ness seeping from droves of multiplayer community driven, faux-retro, indie-gone-legit mini games that sell for $29?

- Head Tracking on Boom Blox? What's up with that? I mean, how does it work, and really, does it matter for Jenga With Explosives.

- Should I really bother getting an Xbox Arcade SKU if I'm actually interested in playing a bunch of Xbox Arcade games? Also, fewer red rings on those, yeah?

- Should I go prot or arms with my new dwarf warrior.

- Can we get another podtoid with Neiro and Workman? Not that you guys aren't awesome, but . . . maybe?

- Has everyone considered their retirement plans? Games are gonna be expensive when we're old codgers. Roth IRA anyone?

- How about a cross-over podcast? RFGO vs Podtoid vs Podcastle. For points.

- Did I do it right?

Hey guys, missed the podcast last week, glad to see a new one this week. It was a hard week, listening to past podcasts, and crying. There was lots of crying.

But anyways, I have a few questions:

-What games are you most excited for that you saw at GDC?

-Having just beaten Professor Layton, I am looking for some more DS games to play. So, if you own a DS, what is in your library/what are your favorite DS titles? (Guess that's two questions really..)

-Rev, you seem to be pretty open minded about your games. What is your favorite all time title, on any system.

-Jim, as you are rather opinionated about games (not that it's a bad thing), what is your favorite game of all time?

Well, I guess that is enough for now. Can't wait to listen!

Are any of you attempting to play the Lost game?

What do you think of the news regarding Persona 3 FES getting a US release?

Also, maybe this isn't really the place to bring it up (regarding a RetroForce topic) but did none of you play the single player story in Phantasy Star Universe? It was supposed to be as close to PS5 as SEGA will probably ever get, and I had to give up on it very early on (it still played like PSO which I hate---nevermind the horrible voice acting).

Hopefully I'm not too late....

With the new information that RE:0, one of the low points in the RE series, is coming as a remake to the wii do you think that it is possible that Capcom might possibly have RE2 or RE3 remakes in the pipeline?

And if they do start doing this, would you be pissed if the remade the original RE?

Again.

Cliff Bleszinski of Epic Games said that PC gaming is currently in a state of "disarray". Being a PC gamer myself, and also a big fan of CliffyB and the Unreal series, I think he was speaking out of disappointment in UT3's dragging sales.

What do you think the future of the PC will be in terms of gaming? As we see Valve constantly release hit after hit, along with letting the PC gaming market flourish with Steam,do you think digital distribution is going to be the future for the platform? What affects do you think games like World of Warcraft and Counter-Strike will have on the future in terms of bringing outsiders to the platform?

As someone who hasn't yet played Lost Odyssey (but intends to), I'm curious about the thematic similarities I've noticed in descriptions of the game's plot to Planescape: Torment. If any of you have played both games, could you give your take on how similar the material is and whether Lost Odyssey contributes its own take on Torment's meditation on immortality, death, and the nature of the self?
