Firstly: SPOILER ALERT FOR EVERY GAME EVER MADE, EVER.

This time around, you'll unfortunately hear Jim and myself (mostly me) cut in and out a few times without explanation. They are but growing pains in another step of Podtoid's evolution. Not only have we switched recorders (the devilishly handsome BlindsideDork now holds the microphone), but Podtoid 41 represents the first news-unrelated episode we've more or less ever done.

This week, Qais Fulton, Daniel "Lingen" Lingen, Jim Sterling and I talk about videogame characters. Just videogame characters. Our favorites, the merits of the silent protagonist, and the people of Rapture. No new news -- just character discussion.

I had a spectacularly hard time choosing a best question for this week, but Leviticus's provided a pretty good conclusion to our lengthy talks. Post your email in the comments and your money shall be delivered posthaste.

Go to the official Podtoid page and give it a listen, then come back and tell me: what did you guys think about the new format? Do you prefer individual news commentaries, or larger discussions of grander subjects? Hit the comments.

[The intro/outro song is "Grim Fandango" by Cadence Weapon, delivered courtesy of .tiff.]

Dang. I’ll have to skip this particular Podtoid, as I’ve never played a number of the games you guys are sure to discuss (I’ll get around to them eventually, I swear): no MGS games, no Half-Life games (nothing in The Orange Box at all), BioShock. I have both God of War games, and I also own Shadow of the Colossus, but your spoiler warning sounds too risky. I suppose it’s too much to ask for a list of every game that you guys spoil?

The main ones I remember are BioShock, the Half-Life games (but only mildly), Silent Hill 2, and the MGS series. You're probably better off not listening if you haven't played most of them, but , then again, if you're living a life where you HAVEN'T played most of these games you're missing out on a hell of a lot anyway.

As far as format goes, I haven't listened yet but I like the format where you talk disparagingly about Mexicans and Jim calls people cunts.

@Reverend Anthony: Thanks a lot! The Orange Box is the first game in my Goozex queue, so hopefully I’ll get it soon (I don’t have the money to buy it right now, or I totally would). I’ve been meaning to play the MGS games, because I definitely want to pick up MGS 4 this summer. In fact, a friend even offered to lend me his GameCube and his copy of Twin Snakes, but I just don’t have the time now that the spring semester has started up (and I still, of course, have a backlog of my own PS2 and PS3 games to tackle). As for BioShock, well, hopefully I can get my brother to rent it on his 360 when he brings it home from college for the summer.

Can we get a weekly podcast with nothing more than Jim Sterling's impressions? His Fontaine one this week was gold.

You know, someone was breathing pretty heavily into their mic. I could hear that sort of whistling sound and it distracted me from Jim's usual ramblings.

Regardless, I liked it. It's very similar to Retroforce's usual themes. I think you should do this whenever you don't have anything particularly interesting to discuss for the week, since some weeks are slower than others and it's nice to have a list of shit to talk about in reserve.

I wasn't implying touching oneself, maybe one of them liked MGS so much that they just couldn't stop themselves.

Maybe...
