Who will be in tonight's podcast? I don't know. Will I drop out every three minutes due to a horrendous router? I don't know. Will there be some sort of technical problem with the episode upload? Probably. We live in a world of uncertainty to which Podtoid, sadly, is not immune.
Still, I know we're going to be talking about BioShock prequels, Mario, and Gamespot, which is aaalmost enough to fill an entire podcast with. We still need some good reader questions, which is where you come in. As always, if you ask the best question you'll get twenty-five dollars. And, once again, try to shy away from anymore "year in review" questions. 2007 is done. We ain't never lookin' back.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Also, how do you think they can make Bioshock not boring and repetitive if it's set in Rapture still.
Also, what is the future for exclusive games? Do you see that trend dying out as developers make more money with multi-console release?
Discuss.
Do you think we'll ever see a new, successful IP which stands purely on its own merits that isn't immediately turned into a continuing franchise in light of its success? Why are there so few games made which have no sequels, remakes, offshoots, etc.?
Can there be a game that just stand on it's own without it being milked into an unneccesary franchise?
Discuss.
Spooky..we were both thinking the same thing..
If not, what are they still missing?
How many more Squeenix titles will be announced this year?
After seeing the previews for the Postal movie, do you think Uwe Bowl has reached a level of genius far beyond our comprehension or will he charged with hate crimes.
1. Should consumer electronics have a law similar to the Lemon Law for vehicles? Would it apply to someone who has gone through 6 or 7 refurbed 360's since launch?
2. Do you think the quality of consumer electronics in regards to gaming has increased/decreased/remained the same in the past few years. If so what do think has lead to the current status?
3. Hypothetical: Over the course of the three year warranty for the RRoD you've gone through 7 or 8 360's shortly after the 3 year warranty goes out your newest refurbed unit gets the RRoD again as you have gotten every 4-6 months for the past few years. How would you handle it? Would you just buy another 360? Would you try to get it covered as it's been an ongoing issue for you for the past few years?
=================================================
This question came up recently while I was talking/bitching to a few friends about my second 360 getting the RRoD in less than six months and my Rock Band's downward strum breaking in the same week after returning the whole box because the kick pedal didn't work right out of the box on my first purchase. IANAL, but my understanding of the Lemon Law for vehicles is that if you've experienced the same problem repeatedly and taken it back to the dealer for repairs and the problem doesn't get repaired after a certain number of times you can claim your vehicle as a lemon return it for your money back or opt for a similar model.
Having my 360 RRoD twice in six months I would have chocked up to bad luck if I hadn't read so many posts by people that seem to be in a similar position as I am. Many other people report that the once on Microsoft's refurbishment plan the units will work for 3-6 months usually before getting a RRoD again. A few 'net people I've talked to claim to on their 6th and 7th boxes.
I don't own a 360 or PS3 but can't help but wonder what the deal is with Metal Gear Solid 4. Sony and Konami swear up and down that it is not coming to the 360, and a tiny lil' group of insiders are certain that it is. What's the deal? Could it possibly have been in development at one point and then cancelled? Every time this is brought up in an article or post, the summary is always "It's not..or is it?"
Also, WTF about the Bragon Ball Z movie...I didn't even know they were making one...am I the only one that thinks this sounds really, really stupid?
Also, I think Street Fighter 4 looks really good so far. Apparently, it'll even be on the Wii. Thoughts?
Also, cocks.

But for the podtoid...What do you think the PS3 has to do to get people to switch from their 360's or influence those that have yet to purchase a current gen system?
Dykes and Colombians.
Two questions this time.
1) Echs Bawks Ultimate. So can this thing cure cancer or what?
2) Do you think that there will be a theme or renaissance(Thanks spellcheck!) this year? For example, do you think that a certain style or genre is going to be a large part of 2008, sort of how Shootan Games were a big part of 2007.
2) With games like Drake's Fortune, Rachet & Clank: Future coming out for the PS3, do you think its future is looking brighter? Or is it still doomed to be the most powerful paperweight evar?
Can we love a space-suited ultra mercenary that isn't Samus?
Could a purple-hatted Hobbit wielding the Maestro Sword win our hearts and save the princess of 'Hy-role?'
Could a high-jumping janitor rescue the Duchess of the Cactus Kingdom from a giant, spiky Albatross and still have us throw down $50 for the chance to accompany him on his adventures?
Do we love Nintendo because of the new gameplay they bring us, or do we love Nintendo because of the new gameplay they bring our favorite characters?
(All those who don't love Nintendo anyway are free to ignore me. And to fuck off.)
What would the Mario game need to include in order to be such a game?
2K Boston has already pretty much assured us there will be one.
Hm. Bioshock prequel. It would probably about be about the Fontaine/Ryan feud, I'd say. A Rapture police drama ( Big Daddy's with funny constable hats and billy clubs? Lulzorz.).
What's in the future for Valve, other than Episode 3? Portal sequels? TF2 expansions? Sexy time?
Also, what's with the new 2K Czech (Illusion) acquisition? What good do you think is going to come out of it?
Can PSN shape up as a response to X360 under the pressure its facing? Will the Wii even bother to develop a response? How about the PC? Is Steam Valve's answer to a universal launch software, and is it of the same caliber?
2. Why is it that, when attempting to sell more handheld devices, why is it that the first thing the company turns to (both Sony and Nintendo) is offering the system in another color. Is anybody really thinking "Well, I would love to buy a DS, but it wouldn't match any of my outfits," or "Well, I never wanted to buy a PSP, but now that they're offering a mint green one, I think I should try it out."
3. How many Jews can you fit in a German car?
Do you care about the HD DVD vs. Blu-Ray wars?
Are NOT emulated games NOT better than virtual console releases?
I'm getting flamed for that one. (u c wut i did thar?)
If you were stuck on an island in the middle of a city, which Dtoid editor would you take with you? Also, what kinf of ice cream?
With some of the most brilliant titles coming out in first person form (Portal, Bioshock, Halo 3, Crysis, with titles like Haze and Far Cry 2 on the way), is the first person perspective becoming the more influential and in depth form? Is there still hope for 3rd person (like MGS4 and recent hits like Super Mario Galaxy)? Does the first person perspective make a game more easy to connect?
Do I use too many parenthesis in my questions (like I did just now)?
I'm stealing credit for that, since a phone call interrupted my commenting. :P
I associate Reptilia by the Strokes with Delta Force 2, and I remember the song in Freehaven in Might and Magic VI to this day. That game had some fantastic scores. Whereas all the other towns had plinky-plonk medieval music, Freehaven felt really lonely and desolate. Other memorable soundtracks for me are Original War, Fahrenheit (Indigo Wafflecy), MDK2 and Beyond Good and Evil - obviously. I could think of others given time or conversation.
actually, it's 6,000,005. 2 in the front, 3 in the back, and 6,000,000 in the ash tray
I'm a Jew bastard and I approve this message
The video game industry is plagued by sequel-itis just as badly as the movie industry, if not more so. We’re going to see plenty of them this year, with titles like Call of Duty 5: Post-Modern Warfare, Madden NFL 09, and Guitar Hero IV: Rock Band v0.5 on the horizon. So what new IP(s) are you most looking forward to in 2008?
And one more regarding the future of media:
The federally-mandated switchover to digital television is scheduled for February 17, 2009, though that date has been pushed back many times because of lower-than-expected rates of purchases of digital TVs. From that date forward, analog television sets will only display snow without a set-top converter box to translate digital transmissions into an analog signal that those TVs can show. In other media, many people claim that the current HD format war is moot anyway because digital distribution is the future. Yet as of June 2007, only 22.1% of Americans (just over 66.2 million people) had broadband internet access. Do you think that the infrastructure is in place yet for either of these switchovers to become adopted by the masses?
