While some of the staff is off in LA meetin' important people and playin' lots of games, the rest of us are here holding the fort, left home because we're just not pretty enough to represent Destructoid publicly. So us fuglies Nick Chester, Anthony Burch and special (non-fugly) guest Chris Furniss are going to find ways to entertain ourselves in the absence of, say, a playable Metal Gear Solid 4. So we were thinking, let's get together and curse like sailors while we talk about games! And if that doesn't make us feel better, we can always clutch our cubes -- our only friends.
Among our topics: Okami for the Wii and the Wii/PS2 port-a-thon; British Intelligence adverts running in games; Orange Box rippin' Metacritic a new one, and whatever we happen to pull out our ass when recording is underway. Course, we're nothing without your questions, so hit that jump and ask us some questions. As per usual, the best one wins a cool $25, so make 'em sexy. And about cubes. Sexy cubes.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Slow news day I suppose :x
Yeah I don't really have anything to say, there's just too much GAMING to do lately =o.
Ass to cube to mouth, your thoughts?
also cocks.
Do you guys have a list of games that you will buy, maybe and never? If so then what games are on the list?
(Do I really need to mention that the link is NSFW?)
Did anyone think the end of Portal totally left it open for a awesome non-space restricted sequel?
And which game will stiff gamers more on downloadable content? The GH2 packs left a lot to be desired, and many people thought they were overpriced. But of course, EA is responsible for charging people for uniforms, stadiums, and even tutorials. What would be the Vegas odds on either game getting free content?

ITS A SCAM! :P
Question:
As somebody who's beaten every song in GH2 on expert (yep, jordan included), when I look at buying Guitar Hero 3, I almost don't really want it at all, especially over rock band, because I have the feeling I will be able to beat 95% of the songs in one sitting, because of my current ability from playing through GH2.
So my question is: do you think the guitar hero series loses much of its value as a challenge and as a game once you reach the 'expert' level?
As i type this the credits for HL2 scroll down my television. oh look! A new Title screen...like Portal
Neat!
There are at least one or two exclusive AAA titles being released for all three current-gen consoles before the end of the year (PS3: Ratchet & Clank Future, Uncharted, and Haze; Wii: Super Mario Galaxy and NiGHTS 2; Xbox 360: Mass Effect). Of course, that doesn’t cover all of the multi-platform games that are sure to sell millions upon millions of copies: Call of Duty 4, Guitar Hero III, Rock Band, Assassin’s Creed, The Simpsons Game, Jericho, and SvR 2008, among others. However, a number of eagerly-anticipated titles have been pushed back to 2008: Brawl, MGS 4, DMC 4, and Wii Fit (well, okay...not so much that last one).
It seems obvious that very few people — certainly no one that I know — will be able to buy (or receive as a gift) every single game that they want this year. I can’t think of a particular holiday season in recent memory that was as jam-packed with must-have games as this one will be, but this period sees a good number of high-profile releases almost every year. So my question is this: Do you prefer the way things are now — that is, having a glut of games released in the last quarter of the year (October-December) — or would you rather have more games be pushed back to winter/spring releases in order to avoid the inevitable post-holiday lull, where oftentimes (not in 2008, but in other years), very few (if any) high-profile games are released between January and March?
Also, fuck cake. It's always sweet and bleeeeeh. Portal was ok though ;)
Now, if there was a promise of burgers....
Do you believe that with Portal making way with it's "First-Person Puzzle" gameplay that we'll see either knock-offs or more expansion into some new solid niche of games? Or will Portal remain one of a kind? Do you believe that Valve will use the Portal Gun in Half-Life 2: Episode 3, or will the constraints of using the Portal Gun in an otherwise open environment be too much?
Door Number 2
How do you believe the Orange Box will revolutionize the gaming industry, if at all? Will Portal and TF2's refreshing new gameplay mechanics plus adding all 3 Half-Life 2 games into one solid package for 60 dollars cause a new trend within the industry? Will this package possibly overshadow the big hits of this end of the year (Halo 3, Bioshock, and Super Mario Galaxy) and keep it in the light until next years' games come?
In watching the ending cinematic, it is quite evident that there -is- in fact a cake. This brings many possibilities to mind: Was GLaDos the 'Crazed AI' simply another iteration of the Aperture Science testing, used to make the simulation more realistic? Was GLaDos hording the cake all for herself? Is the cake part of a tangential universe created by random act of quantum physics, wherein the player does in fact receive the promised delicious treat?
Maybe now I'll get some investors.

...And cake.
Who do you think scribbled the messages on the wall for the main character to read? Was the first one sribbled by the first test subject and each subsequent scribbling done by another until you came along and put it all together?
Unlike Bioshock, which had enough press coverage of its themes and concepts for us to know what to expect upon release, Portal seems to be a genuine surprise for most. We were all expecting interesting gameplay, but the caliber of the game's writing completely and unexpectedly stole the show.
It's still early in the holiday season, but so far Portal is my favorite game of the year. (Sorry Bioshock.) The only complaint I've heard anyone express about it is the length, but truthfully I think that it lasted exactly as long as it needed to and ended gracefully. Do you think that Portal's short duration will disqualify it as a Game of the Year contender, despite its other merits?
A. Re-unite two kittens who were seperated at birth
B. Unite Chad with a real life dolphin
C. Solve world hunger
or
D. Have a weighted companion cube of your own
how would you let A B and C down, without seeming to harsh?
