It's apparently the Sabbath yet again and instead of worshipping some magical sky wizard or taking time out to do good deeds for our fellow man, we're recording episode 30 of Podtoid, the critically-aware-of, award-show-attending podcast from Destructoid.com.
Topics this week include the following:
Bioshock: Game of the Year or Game of the Century? Bonus Topic - "Bathysphere": Underrated word or criminally underrated word?
EA rewrites history: As wikipedia becomes the prevalent source for information will we see this more and more commonly, and what sort of effect does being caught red-handed have on a company like EA?
Secret Topic: Ok, it isn't so much a secret, as I haven't come up with one yet. Stay tuned for more on this story as it develops!
As usual, we'll also be filling a considerable amount of time in this podcast with the answering of your reader questions, so please, assault the comments with your inquisitive-osity!
We're also debuting a new feature on Podtoid where the finest question presented to us will win the submitter 25 bones in cold, hard, American cash. We shall announce the winner at the end of the show, at which point whoever it is that won should e-mail me at nex@destructoid.com with information on how you would like to receive your prize. Note: "Quickly" will only be funny once.
Just curious is all.
And is is coming back?
Also with the debate of art being considered games being dealt with all over the internet just taught id ask how you guys felt about it? Sorry if this was already dealt with...Obvious games like ICO and OKAMI aside. Perhaps Bioshock?
Now that Destructoid is “Sponsored” by games such as Bioshock and God of War, how do you prevent criticism that it might effect your review of games or amount of coverage on the site? What does “Sponsored by” imply?
Just asking out of curiosity, I have no problem with Dtoid being sponsored, I want it to grow in to the best site that it can and I know that needs money! I just figured I would ask because my first thought when I saw that Bioshock got a 10/10 was that someone would complain and call you guys out on having your opinion bought (instead of understanding that it is just the best game ever…)
To conclude: Destructoid rocks my socks off, and I love you all…
It's "Dose a man not deserve the sweat of his brow." If your going to quote the greatest game ever, get it right.
Teh questions:
Now that BioShock is out, do you believe there will be more games that focus more on the Single Player campaign that doesn't suck?
Is anything in Crysis other than good graphics that will help it stand out from other shooters with aliens?
Games for Windows, how long will Microsoft continue putting their effort into it, and is it harmful, or helpful, to PC gaming in genereal?
-Andrew Ryan
Oh and for podtoid What do you think of Jack Thompson's latest ranting?
@ Tehuber
@ Justice yaya whatever
{Yes I use AOL, STFU you people know to much about me)
Given that Picasso said that all art is a lie that makes us realize the truth, is Duke Nukem Forever the greatest example as games as art?
Is BioShock getting too highly rated reviews? It's super awesome and all that, but 99% on average... really? It kinda feels like it's riding on a wave of:
- Being the first good game since the summer-drought
- Being innovative and new in an age of 360/PS3 rehashing of familiar genres with prettier graphics
- Having an adult story and asking mature questions about topics that are not often asked in games, so that reviewers can finally tell people to read Atlas Shrugged or tell them that it sucks.
Will people really still discuss BioShock in 3 months? Or will it just go like: "Oh yeah BioShock, that game was awesome" "uhuh" "yep" "what's new?"

You spelled does wrong. FAIL.
Sorry guys, I cant stand fucking internet explorer and firefox. I grew up useing AOL and it's always proved to be the most helpful browser. So what the fuck ever.
I dont even know why everyone hates it in the first place.
My entry for the $25 contest is as follows:
If you could put 5 characters from the gaming universe, not just the Nintendo universe, into Super Smash Bros. Brawl, who would they be?
I can has fancy mic, yes? :)
Which of the upcoming Xbox 360 RPGs, Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata, are you looking forward to more and why?
While BioShock may be a very well polished and entertaining game are there any elements that you disliked while playing it or any that were 'okay' but definitely could have been better.
As far as ads in games go, do you think the industry knows what they're doing?
There's an overwhelming presence of Dodge cars in all Xbox games. Ads for Calibers all over the place in Crackdown, and Rams and Durangos filling the entire streets in Rainbow Six. That's not subtle; it's irritating to the point that it makes me want to go key cars at a dealership.
Personally, I think Ubisoft needs to re-evaluate their target audience. I saw an ad for P. Diddy, in the navigation room of a dry-docked boat in Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Someone needs to be fucking fired.
I'm sure this isn't relevant to Nex, because night elves aren't sold, but is anyone excited about the Square-Enix online shop opening August 20th for North American business?
Briefly, what single issue or topic are you most passionate about in gaming at this point in time? I was inspired to ask this when Linde went crazy over the BioShock demo in the last Podtoid. That's some passion for you.
Question: Seeing how many different versions/SKUs that the PS3 (3) and 360 (soon to be 4) have, do you think that nintendo will ever come out with a different version of the wii? If so, what would you like to see in it?
What game do you think is the most over hyped game of all time? -or-
What is your opinions of the ESA edits to wikipedia and the ESA generally?
Question 2: If you were Jack Thompson, who would your favorite wrestler be and why?
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH PAX?. I remember Collete asking for anyone going to contact her a while back. Do we have any secret master plans? When will we know about them? It's this weekend, so I'm getting kind of anxious to know.
What is your least favorite word?

If heaven exists, what would you want God to say to you when you arrived?
Also why do games like Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 seem to be pushing the expectations of what the Wii can do graphically while the third party efforts seem to come up short? Beyond the games which are ported over to the Wii from the PS2, is nintendo not lending enough support to third party publishers or are the publishers just lazy?
Alyx Vance
Laura Croft
Some other female from a game
and host online gaming directly from this site?
Why is SPORE taking so damn long to be released?
I don't know if this question has been asked, because I'm not going to carefully comb through 51 comments, but anyway: Do you think there will be a trend of shooters, or perhaps any other genre, that are stylized similarly (i.e. "futuristic" imagery of a certain era, etc.) to BioShock? Can it be redone successfully and, either way, do we even want to see that? (Taking into account that such a thing can be driven into the ground and ruined quite easily.) If so, how else can things be stylized or, in other words, what other themes and settings would you like to see?
As for me, I'd like to see BioShock 2: ON THE MOON, BITCHES! And yes, that would be its actual name. Retro-futuristic space gear, Big Daddys in space suits... Mmmmm. Anyway, I hope that all made sense. I don't think it did.
Seriously though, what category of science fiction do Bioshock and Fallout and Myst fall under? It's way to early to be Cyberpunk, way to late to be Steampunk. They seem to have all of the -punk aspects to it (self modification to a fault, morally corrupt characters, high tech and low life) but there really isn't a name for any of it.
Decopunk?
Fiftypunk?
Randpunk?
Also, BETRAYAL.
What's the likelyhood of games besides Pokémon utilizing the Wii and DS together, and will any of that connectivity be worthwhile?
