Podtoid 168: Hotel For Pigs (With Guest Tommy Wiseau!) photo

On this fun-stuffed episode of Podtoid, we chat to none other than Tommy Wiseau, famous for creating The Room and The House That Drips Blood On Alex. He's got a new videogame-themed series coming up, The Tommy Wi-Show, and we ask him all about it while he tells us about the positive aspects of gaming and listens to a special movie pitch.

Also on the show, we find out that Jonathan Holmes once looked after pigs in a hotel, we complain about Gears of War 3 and wonder what's up with the PlayStation Vita. Also, we read negative reviews that people have written and laugh, laugh, laugh.

As ever, you can subscribe to us on iTunes and RSS, buy our Android App or download directly!

(Oh, and check out Flixist's interview with Tommy, too)

I'm fully expecting for this to just be Max impersonating Tommy Wiseau.

This is kind of off topic, but I miss the days of Dtoid having more than one weekly podcast to listen to. Now, if you want your official Dtoid audio fix, you have to listen to "Podtoid".

The new Podtoids, although I admit they've become quite laugh-inducing at times, really don't grab my interest like the old casts did. And now we're having movie creators? I honestly think I'll pass on this one - after a hundred and some episodes I've come to the point where I actually don't want to listen to an episode of Podtoid. Huh.

@ AvianFlame- You are truly, truly missing out on this one. Seriously. I totally understand if you want to stop listening to Podtoid after this episode, but just don't skip this one.

Just don't.

On Jonathan Holmes' personal recommendation I guess I'm going to get it. Since he asked me to and all. I expect nothing short of God shitting rainbow unicorns out of my headphones as a result.

Until you guys mentioned him like a week ago I knew NOTHING of Tommy Wiseau, if you asked me who he was I'd draw a blank. Now I know.

I'll know even more after I listen to this Podcast and probably watch The Room if I can find it.

I kind of wish Tommy was a little more willing to talk in the interview. It seemed he was towing the line to often with promoting himself and his craft. I can understand that time was short and that the interview was mostly for promoting his new show. It was still fun that he was willing to interview you guys, though. He seems completely out of his mind.

Great podcast, by the way!

OH HAI MARK!

When Podtoid tries to actually do a thing seriously: it's OK.

when Podtoid responds to bad reviews by having Jim scream a joke: Priceless.

Great show as always, Though I didn't appreciate that machinima guy's presence, felt like a chaperone.

Why would they be apprehensive? Tommy was at the hands of Jim Sterling after all, I don't get it.

Seriously though, you stayed as classy and collected as expected Jiiiiim. Some people just don't get you.

JonathOn sounded disingenuous with his lavish of Tommy's work on The Room, but knowing him, he probably was 100% honest, I wonder how tommy takes that sort of praise...

@Tara: Don't feel too bad about watching Jersey Shore, just like Podtoid, it's a beautiful mess, the only difference is on Jersey Shore one spends the whole episode mostly laughing at them rather than with them.

@ LifeCarrier- I was 100% genuine about my love of The Room, and my respect for Tommy Wiseau. It's an incredible movie.

A lot of people think they like it because its "so bad its funny". I don't think they are necessarily right about that. How can a movie be considered "bad" when it gives you something you can't find anywhere else, and in the process, offers an evocative, honest expression of the creator's inner psyche? That's not bad. That's what film making should be about. That's totally what The Room does.

That's why I think that it's become such a cult hit. There are plenty of other "bad" movies out there. Thousands of them get released every year. Yet, out of all of the "bad" movies put out in the past ten years, The Room is one of the only ones, if not the only one, to build up a huge passionate following.

It doesn't matter to me if Tommy Wiseau meant for the movie to be amazing in the ways that it is. What matters is that its amazing, and its a movie that only Tommy Wiseau could make. That deserves all the praise I could muster.

Just to say about Arkham City, I understand third person games like that are better with controllers vs K/M, but these days most PC versions give you the option of using a wired 360 Controller.

Arkham Asylum for example, if you plugged in a 360 controller you can use it exactly like the 360 version, even the prompts change to the controllers buttons.
Same with Witcher 2 as well and a load of others. It's getting more common too.

I know where you're coming from. I do still enjoy Podtoid for the laughs, but I've had to expand my podcast rotation, precisely because videogames feel at this point like a wall dressing. They are there, but hardly the focal point of the show, most of the time.

I totally relate to what Jim said about why he likes podcasts; I'm terrified of silence and introspection. Thanks to podcasts I never have to address or even acknowledge my existential angst. Huzzah!

No one gives a crap about this Wisseau character. Just some washed up actor with too much money who self made a movie so bad it became some warped cult hit among morons.

I've listened to about 20 podcasts now and thank god the whole podcast wasnt just that interview, it was just awkward. It might just be that i dont like tommy wiseau though because his humor is dumb, and not like naked gun where it is over the top its just.....bad.

Best videogame podcast (yes, even better than Bombcast). The comedy assault between Jim Sterling and Max Scoville is unmatched. Jonathan Holmes is weird (in a good way) and Tara Long is the perfect foil to the antics of Jim and Max. The most dynamic cast in videogame podcasts.
