This week's Podtoid is a pretty long one. Just be ready for that. The regular cast, minus Linde (save for the last ten minutes) talked about everything from Assassin's Creed 2, to Lego Rock Band, to which of the Star Wars movies are the best.
We also have the same conversation about the Darkman trilogy, believe it or not.
You can listen to the show here or subscribe to us on iTunes.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Gotta skip through this Podtoid to the part about Darkman now...
Topher, actually getting that gnome achievement is impressive, odd...but impressive.
Strange, why bother saying Star Wars episodes 4-6?
There are no episodes 1-3.
Jim's rant about his AC2 review was so disheartening. By acting so disrespectfully to commentators he degrades his image as a reviewer. How can you expect anybody to respect your opinion if you show no respect to others? How can you succeed as a reviewer if nobody respects your opinion. Those people you picked out said some very stupid things, yes, (and one or two not-so-stupid things that you equally dismissed), but nevertheless you should show some manners man! I'm not saying "never slag anyone" but god, that's all you do! You never once, then or now, gave a counter-argument that wasn't derogatory.
Secondly, to the point that reviews should not be opinion: now you must certainly be able to see where the lad was coming from, right? It's difficult and often unwise to separate one's opinion from objectivity when critically talking about games, but unless you try to transcend your opinion and keep a reasonable, level head about the game you won't be able to give people a reliable account of it. What's left is more alike a blog and a rant than an article of reference. If you find that you can't step outside your opinion with regards a game, you should pass the review on to someone who is able to give a clinical analysis (on top of thir opinion). It is not a means of passing off anything you want and calling it a review.
Thirdly, appealling to justify your review by saying "there were tons that liked it" or "many still continue to read my work" is showing adherance to a woeful logical fallacy: that the majority of people couldn't be wrong. I hope I need not explain why this is an absurd appeal. Were it true, there would never be any reason to change the zeitghast, for instance, and games would never be considered art, as another instance. Incidentally, you can say "no-one forces you to read my articles" all you like, but never use this as a justification for your writing.
Furthermore (Anthony, I'm looking at you), if ye think the numbers at the end of your reviews are arbitrary and do not properly reflect your opinions of the game, you should abandon their practice. True, having a number slapped onto the game will get you on metacritic, and it's a journalistic standard etc, but if you don't have faith that it adequately represents anything, it demolishes the purpose it serves. If it's irrelevant, it's meaningless, in this case.
The 'out of ten', as you know, acts as a quantification of the quality of any given game. Which, I agree, is ridiculous. I don't like it any more than you, if you say it's a simplifying method of standardization. Simplifications are seldom accurate. Quality when transcibed to a number can often be misleading. I don't like the system but I abide by it. But you - who writes the review - if you feel it is itself meaningless and you still want to use the system, you have to tolerate it! You have to set aside your own opinions and pick a number out of ten according to the industry's method of picking numbers out of ten.
If you can't reconcile your attitude of the 'out of ten' system with the benefits of applying this system, then your reviews will never escape that insincerity.
Man, experience has taught me that this comment won't ever be read by an editor, but I'll keep trying out of sheer youthfullness. As it happens I'm still only half way through the podcast so I'm sure I'll have more to say by the end. For whatever -that's- worth...
i agree. I personally think that Jim has created a clever method in which he writes something controversial just to pull viewing hits towards the site [sponsor pleaser]. He seems like a fairly intelligent person, but his posts rarely use this intelligence correctly and seem to be either trolling or troll bait. On more than one occasion he has enticed flamewar between sony/microsoft users, yet claims that he hates fanboy-ism. I don't think many of the younger readers realize this and they enjoy his articles in the same way that they enjoy south park. not really understanding the point, just laughing at rude jokes. He will undoubtedly become more popular because he is at the forefront of a very good site like Destructoid and people look up to him due to 'celebrity' status. Its nice to be popular. Its just a shame you that he gains popularity by being a verbal arsehole :\
No.
No what? Jim isn't intelligent, controversial or a sponsor pleaser? He doesn't entice flamewar? He isn't becoming more popular or at the forefront of a very good site?
Please, do continue..
game itself has to look the same. If you play TP again, you'll notice that Link doesn't
look entirily the same as in the concept art. In the art he looks pretty tough, while in
the game he looks kinda goofy.
