Podtoid 125 records tonight: Butts, butts, butts photo

Senor Perrito del Burrito says: Anthony and Jim are not here this week.

As such, tonight's episode of Podtoid will be hosted by one Aaron Linde, Esq. instead. Joining him will be Dr. Samit Sarkar, Warrior of the Arctic Brad Nicholson, and me. I don't have a title because I'm a proper failure with no credentials. But I do have a Summer DX version Yotsuba Revoltech, and can the other guys say that? Didn't think so.

Tonight we will be talking about things. Videogame things. If you want to leave us a few questions in the comments so that we have even more things to talk about, that would be fine. We will probably answer some of them. Probably.

All hail Senor Perrito del Burrito. He is all-knowing, and craves chicken teriyaki.

Now that the big holiday release season is essentially officially over with Assassin's Creed and L4D2 out, which games would each of you say is your favorite so far?

Do you feel that games are getting better with the whole moral choice gimmick? Dragon Age: Origins has some pretty spectacular ones, in my opinion. Do you see the trend continuing?

Topher, you're the best. Of all time. And before time. And after conventional time. You're the best even at 13 O' Clock.

How many endings of games are things that Chet does on a regular basis? Ballad of Gay Tony's ending, Saint's Row 2's ending, Mass Effect's ending...

What game characters from an existing series would you give their own game? For me it would be Princess Zelda, Revolver Ocelot and The Merchant from RE4.

Also which licensed character/property not yet in a major video game would you like to see have a good video game adaptation. For me it would be The Flash, that GBA JLA game doesn't count.

Also what obscure game deserves a sequel. I'd like to see Ultimate Spider-Man 2 or Ultimate Comics Spider-Man as it is now.

To Topher:

1) If Brad Nicholson was a new character in Super Street Fighter 4, would he replace Sakura as your main?

2) Where did your love of SHMUPS begin?

To Brad:

What would your Street Fighter 4 Ultra look like?

With story lines becoming an increasingly important part of video games, do you feel story lines are better served with linear gameplay ? It seems that games with large, sprawling environments often allow the player to wander off to do what they wish and in a way it dilutes the main story. In games such as Fallout 3, Borderlands and GTA 4, I found myself getting sidetracked with all the other little things to do and found that coming back to the main story, I had forgotten some key elements which leaves holes in the story.

Do you think there'll ever be a major release (say, somethin' like Far Cry 3) that'd use the delete-your-save-if-you-die idea? Cos I remember you guys discussing that Far Cry 2 lended itself well to a no-death playthrough and it got me curious to hear more.

When I was a kid, I used to love Sonic Adventure 2. I play it recently and had never realized how bad that game is. This seems to happen pretty frequently, loving a game only later to realize it was actually awful.

Has the opposite ever happened to you? Have you ever not liked a game, but for some reason decided to go back just to find out that it was actually pretty good?

Mirror's Edge applies for me. Although I still think the campaign sucks, I went back and did several of the time trials recently. The exhilaration and fluidity of the free-running that I originally expected from the title was tucked away in the time trials.

My friend and I Were having this argument.

Saying a game is good and liking a game are both subjective. They are opinions. But is there a difference between the two? I think that you can think a game is good, but you don't have to like it and vice versa.

What do you guys think?

At what point in a gaming discussion does it, if ever, become important to step back and consider that the game in question is ultimately just a game? Where would you say that moment comes in, if ever, for each of you? Is that type of realization even necessary, or should a game's artistic merits transcend its purpose to entertain? In other words, when does a game become more than "just a game"?

Sorry if that was at all too convoluted.

Games are different from other art forms because of the fact that the player is in control. Has anyone on podtoid ever felt responsible or guilty for something they did in a game?

Recently, the guys that made Ratchet and Clank said that no one really cares about their games running at 60 FPS. Separately, just rented Heavenly Sword, and its gorgeous compared to plenty of games I've played recently (infamous, prototype, other stuff...).

1) Be honest: Isn't it true that PS3 exclusives are some of the most beautiful games you've ever seen?

-or-

2)Less inflammatory question: Would you rather have seen games/gamers care more about FPS than supershader, bump mapping, gritty texture complexity?

We've seen the rise of DLC in this generation of game consles. In a number of cases, the DLC has been made exclusive to just one console. Do you think this practice should stop or should devs be allowed to release a game on multiple systems and then neglect part of their customer base even though they all purchased, for all intents and purposes, the same product?

So I'm pretty tired about readng on every top 10 list ever that Ocarina of Time is the best videogame ever. I am completely on Linde's side here - the game is good but peoples judgemend is clouded by nostalgia.

IF a "best game ever" was possible though, which one would you choose?

And Samit, PLEASE have more imagination than some game with three letters and two numbers, mkay?

After MW2's ending, what are you guys' feelings on sequel set up endings? Is it legitimate to leave the plot hanging in the balance, or should the current arc be completely wrapped up? Should they be treated as different acts in an overall story? Do characters need a certain amount of development in order to warrant a sequel? Your opinions, I want them.

Games like Shadow of the Colossus and Ocarina of Time are considered 'classic'. Are these 'classic' games, ones that will be talked about and played years from now, still being produced? For example, will the original Bioshock or Left 4 Dead be considered cornerstones of gaming or simply outdated shooters?

Is the exclusivity of softcopy games on the Arcade and PSN something either company will be to hold? Braid is crossing over, for instance, but Critter Crunch hasn't made the move. Is the exclusivity there as important as series like Halo and Killzone?

Brad Nicholson: You're given a choice between creatine-laced rhubarb pie and steroid-laced boysenberry pie, which one do you choose and why?!

Samit Sarkar: Who is the worst character in a sports game ever and why?!

Topher Cantler: What is the best game that the average Dtoider has never played and why?!

Aaron Linde: If faced with the choice between fame, fortune, and a fulfilling career in the gaming industry, all thanks to BonerQuest, or fame, fortune, and a fulfilling career in the adult film industry, all thanks to BonerQuest, which one would you choose and why?!

Do you think that the closing of Pandemic Studios has anything to do with The Saboteur? Do they know they have a clunker on their hands or was this just a scheme to save money?

As a side note, I was just bringing a problem up to my boss (I'm in QA), and meant to say, "Also, this" but "Also, cocks" came out. I'm very lucky my boss has sense of humor and that this place is nothing like a real office.
