Podtoid 117 will be about...something photo

To be honest, I have almost no idea what we're gonna be talking about on tonight's episode of Podtoid. Some brief GDC Austin musings will be had, but I'm effectively clueless beyond that point. The Martyrdom perk in Modern Warfare 2? I have no idea. Unless I'm mistaken, this has been a tremendously boring week for game news. What do you want us to talk about?

Your suggestion can be phrased either as a statement or in the form of a typical listener question. Either works, and both can net you a Dtoid swag bag if we consider your question/comment/whatever the most interesting.

That in mind, feel free to hit the jump and get to questioning/commenting/whatevering.

Have any of you experienced backwards hype? Where a game gets called so shit that you end up lovin' it?

Also, Nuggets.

Will there be any follow-ups to Jim's article about Sony fanboys (which has over 500 comments now)?

Do you ever find yourself avoiding a game in a particular genre because of the possibility of feeling "genre fatigue" for games you want to play down the line? For example, I'm holding off playing Halo ODST because I'm looking forward to Borderlands and Modern Warfare 2. I just don't want to be soured on FPSs by the time I get to playing MW 2.

@Topher

Dreamcast on PSN, how cool would this be? I know you'd rather own the discs I'm sure, but some of us don't have Dreamcasts, or haven't played specific games. I think this would be a great way for those of us who haven't had the pleasure of playing many Dreamcast games, to do so. Yes?

What was the most interesting intellectual concept you discovered in a game, and wanted to learn more about? For example, did Assassin's Creed lead you to study more about the Crusades? Did Bioshock give you an interest in the works of Ayn Rand? Did Aaron Linde's BonerQuest cause you to consider the symbology of the male phallus and its role in creating power dynamics between the sexes?

Since RFGO! is on hiatus: Is €60 for a dreamcast a bargain? Second-hand, mind you, with 2 pads and 1 VMU.

Just... y'know... a question.

Then talk about how much Aion fans like to be penetrated.

I've determined that the Incredible Hulk game (based on the Ed Norton movie) is as close as we're getting to a mass-market Brad Nicholson simulator. Not only can you punch women in the face with impunity, but you can use cars as boxing gloves, like Brad did with the lion that one time.

I haven't completed the game yet, so I can't confirm any blueberry scone boss battles.

Anthony, you'll know where I'm coming from here, but if you guys wanted to talk about Conversation in games and what you think it could mean/do as a mechanic I'd love to hear the thoughts of everybody.

But since you probably won't do that, there were the comments that Square Enix guy said Wii 2 in 2011, does that matter? What do you think about that?

What do you think about the resurgence of Adventure games are they doing anything new? How can they improve? examples?

Anthony mentioned about the recent indie game, 'Edmund', that he found the characters to be utterly distasteful and evil, that he really did not like being forced to take control over them, however, at the same time, you guys have mentioned how you like to play proper villains in a video game.

Where does the line fall? What goes beyond "This character is evil, but the experience is unique and interesting" to "I hate everything I have to do as this character and this game carries far less merit because of that"?

Halo 3 odst was just released and features the complete halo 3 multiplayer experience, rendering that game relatively useless. How do you guys react when games feature exact translations of modes or maps from previous games. It seems like a good thing that people who never got into the previous games can play parts of them, but often they neglect the new mechanics that are presented, leading to the consumer feeling like the developer was just lazy. Other examples of this would be the retro modes in many shmups although that is slightly more justified than paying 60$ for 6 hours of new content and having the multiplayer as old content, albiet with all the dlc.

I have a friend who does not like Uncharted claiming it is Tomb Raider with a male character trying to be Indiana Jones. I asked him if he would try it again to see if he might find something redeemable about it, but his response was, "If I wanted an adventure story I would watch Indiana Jones instead of playing that game. I need a new game and was thinking about getting Halo:ODST" What does Podtoid think about this?

Also bad grammar, half ass punctuation, and weak vocabulary
Also also cocks

I posted this a while back, but after Jaffe calling Anthony on using the word "fag", it seems fitting to revisit it. By the way, feel free to paraphrase.

A couple weeks ago you guys were talking about how Orson Scott Card's hyper-conservative views, especially regarding homosexuals, could be used by consumers as a reason to boycott Shadow Complex even though there is no bigoted material in the game. As unemployment has afforded me the opportunity to delve more deeply into previous podtoids, I've found that most if not all of the contributors use gay slurs as pejoratives with regularity.

I was wondering how you'd compare a piece of entertainment that has no offensive material made by a bigot to one that has an extensive amount made by people who are ostensibly joking around.

I ask because it seems so easy to say, "Fuck that bigot guy, he's so stupid and backwards!" and then turn around and bust on your friends for sucking tons o' dick (yeah, I do it on occasion myself... um, the busting on the friends part). For the record: I'm straight, liberal, and so tired of hearing the words "fag" and "nigger" on xbox live that I immediately mute everyone.

I think there's no way around talking about the follow up to Jim's article on (PS3) Fanboys, especially since almost every article since, including ones which exclusively dealt with matters regarding the Wii or 360, have been dominated by precisely the people who he was addressing.

Also, CitizenErased's Rise of the Robots Vs Capcom. Which is now a classic in my mind. I'm adding a Wikipedia entry for it as we speak.

NCsoft's latest MMO is one fans should keep their Aion

How did Operation Nugget turn out? How about the morning after? When I was over in Australia, there was a contest for the Bachelor's of Applied Eating which required someone to eat one of each basic item (like just a 6 piece nugget not all number varieties) on the McDonald's menu. The location where this all took place forgot to put the apple pies in the oven so all the participants had to sit there and wait for them to finally cook. Needless to say, things got ugly in a hurry and I couldn't eat at McDonald's for a couple years after that.

Now the Bachlor's of Applied Drinking, that's a story for another time.

first question ever....

With all the hype and investment into motion controls, what game (on whatever console) have you seen push the mapping of actions/funtions of a controller (pad) to the limits. And which of these made you say "wow someone REALLY thought about this!"

Examples for me are the Armored Core games (ps3 being really heavy), and the Syphon Filter (for some reason).

Thanks for all the interesting discussions and glad to hear a british accent on the podcast , and im an arab studying in Hungary, so i am down with the BROWNTOWN/terrorist jokes too....

With Activision's CEO wanting to take the fun out of the creation process of games, do you think this will negatively impact the overall product? Is it not part of the creative process to find enjoyment in what you are creating? If that is gone will games become bland and boring cookie cutter products like oh so many first person shooters?
