Podtoid 112 is Double Dragon-free, thank God photo

Back to the regularly irregular news episodes that made Podtoid so famous quasi-popular at least moderately well known within the Destructoid community long-running. Tonight, Jim, Aaron, Topher and I (Samit may be on a plane, or something) will discuss the Shadow Complex boycott, the PS3 slim, sociopathic game heroes, and other topics. And listener questions, obviously, which we hope you will provide after the jump.

Also, Podtoid is now recording on Tuesdays -- hope that doesn't screw anything up for you.

Anyway, feel free to hit the jump and start asking stuff for the chance to win a Dtoid swag bag.

First off, the double dragon episode WASN`T THAT BAD. Remember, we had the entertainment of your commentary. Clearly the films badness finally crushed your souls by the last hour of the podcast causing you too lose perspective on the meta-effect of the podcast itself, but, the commentary had some goodness inherent, and i've listened to less funny podtoid episodes before. Plus, it is always a risk that you will find films sought after for their less than decent quality, er, less than decent. And in DD`s case, hyper fucking shit. But, it was funny. It was all worth it for witnessing Robert Patrick make that paper wall his bitch, even though a 4 year old girl could of done the same.

For this episode? I suggest you discuss how silly it is that FF14 has been shown by square already, before the release of 13. Because it is mildly retarded that they did so, in my opinion.

Jim twittered today: "I've noticed a new trend of people making up what my opinions are, then attacking that rather than criticize my *actual* opinions. Annoying."

I was wondering if he felt a lot like your president...

How long do you think it will be before [s]Brad[/s] Chet becomes the spitting image of Abobo?

Do you guys think a retail game for the Wii is actually worth the $50. Don't get me wrong there is good games for it, but I find it harder to justify spending that money on a game for it when I could spend a extra $10 and get something for the 360 or PS3 that has either more features and possibly more replayability (if the online doesn't suck or still has a active community). Usually I don't buy a Wii game untill its $40 or less, so I do you guys feel about it or am I in the minority that thinks this way?

Do you think that the majority of th game industry is mysogynistic? And if so, how do you think it effects the games we play?

In the past, Sony has released the slim versions of it's consoles near the end of the generation life cycle. But now they are releasing it earlier. What do you thunk that means?

Are there any sociopathic game characters that you feel an emotional attachment to?

If you were to have a homosexual relationship with any video game character, who would it be and why?

So remember a while ago when you were like "man a survival zombie rpg would be way cool, let's get this happening"? Did anything happen?

Also: Zombies are all over the place now. Left 4 Deads, Dead Risings, Resident Evils, Plants vs Zombies, the list goes on... is zombie apocalypse the new aliens vs space troopers?

What is your favourite game that features voice work from Patrick Stewart? Additionally, what games do you feel would benefit from Patrick Stewart's rich sensual voice?

I was always wondering why 12-16 year olds are always made fun of on your podcast? Yes I agree that alot of them run around in halo screaming "NAGGERs NAGGERS haha that was on south park I'm so funny" But a few of us aren't, I'm not really a fan of Halo and Madden (Sorry Browntown) but I'm more of a serious gamer. I just wanted to ask the podtoid crew that.
Thanks For Great A Great Podcast

PS Ive Gone Goozex crazy this week can you recommend any older 360 games not The Orange Box CoD4 or Bioshock I already Requested them

Refering to the video of the PS3 Slim unboxing, have you asked Topher or Nick where the power lead needs to be inserted?

What rarely mentioned celebrity cameos in videogames have you been surprised by?

I.e. Ray Liotta and Dennis Hopper in GTA Vice City, David Duchovny in XIII, that Lex Luthor guy in Dark Sector.

Anthony Burch, Your are really into the indie scene. I was wondering what you think of the flash game scene, specifically sites like kongrigate that allow users to donate money to the developer, and for the developer to earn of advertisements?

With the Shadow Complex boycott going on, I have a hypothetical for you. If Shadow Complex would have been a game based on Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game", would we see the same controversy? While I am aware the book itself isn't the issue, Ender's Game is his most critically acclaimed and beloved book and I feel that the "OMGZ Ender's Game video game" might be a louder voice than that of the boycott voice.

Also Topher, do you have any complaints

You guys always talk about Half Life 2, Metal Gear Solid, Bioshock, etc, but I've never heard you talk about Deus Ex, which is widely lauded as one of the greatest games ever made. I'd like to know if any of you have played it, what you think about it, and what elements of its gameplay, if any, might you foresee incorporating into the Bonerquest episode Bonerquest: Day of Sex.

The style of Beyond Good and Evil almost feels like a Studio Ghibli film.

Do you agree, disagree and why? Or do you think I'm just focusing too much on the character Pey'j?

Feel free to discuss anything else about Beyond Good and Evil really...

Since it looks like you're covered on Shadow-Complex related questions, here's something completely different: Do you think there could ever be a GOOD Doctor Who game? And if there was, would it basically fill the role of the sequel that Chrono Trigger should have had?

Of course,if it was based on the new series, they would have the inherent problem that the Doctor's MP would fluctuate wildly between 0 and 500 million, but one probably at a time I suppose.

MY question: everybody has seen the sick resident evil zombie t-shirts that everybody wants. If you had the chance to create a t-shirt with the same overall design, what character or type of character would you use to do it.

To be honest I though the commentary on Double Dragon was your funniest yet. On to the questions:
With the PS3 Slim soon to be released, do you think this was a good move by Sony, or will it fall flat on its face due to poor sales and/or hardware issues?
Will you be buying a Slim, yes/no? Why?
With the controversy of Shadow Complex in mind, could you think of a situation where you would indeed boycott a game because of someone (whom you don't like for whatever reason) helped work on the development?

So, I think the offset idea is bullshit. It sounds good on the surface, but it really only works in math equations. In real life, giving $5 to a homophobe is not canceled out by giving $5 to a gay rights organization.

What if you gave $1000 to the IDF, and they buy an RPG with it and use it to kill some Palestinians in the West Bank. Does giving $1000 to Hamas offset that? Or does it just prolong the war and increase suffering? It's an extreme example, but I think don't think it breaks the analogy.

---
At the same time, I don't think it's wrong to buy Shadow Complex. As Jim noted in the podcast, Card is basically an employee. A stupid, outspoken employee with a choir to preach to, but the only reason that there's a controversy is because Card won't shut up about it.

Buying Shadow Complex is not comparable to directly funding Hamas or the IDF. Just as paying your taxes every year doesn't mean you own some small fraction of an F-15 fighter jet, having bought Shadow Complex doesn't mean you paid for a page of Card's giant secret stash of gay spank mags.

What albums are you guys listening to? Do you guys like setting up custom soundtracks(external sources i.e. computer included) or do you prefer just using in game soundtracks.
