My favorite thing about Podtoid is the fan art, honestly. The ramblings of the four-to-five regular cast members and myself are essentially irrelevant, save for their ability to function as a gateway to truly mindblowing fan art like the above drawing from Grievetrain.
Tonight, we will discuss Rhianna Pratchett's statements about games writing, some stuff about Suda 51, and whether or not we are all "fags".
As is typically the case, we'll need your listener questions to fuel the last third of the show. If you ask one that we deem the most interesting, we'll send you a Dtoid swag bag. Hit the jump, if you wish, and start asking stuff.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Also, what's your favourite Benjamin Franklin quote?
Also, Moonwalker.
In light of the "fag" incident, is Twitter the best or worst thing to happen recently to the gaming industry?
Also: Often concepts are developed for the market and are deemed far too advanced to introduce them to the average consumer. These concepts are often put on the backburner for up to a decade until market research indicates people are willing to except it. As such, is the world truly ready for the “warrior of the arctic” saga?
Do you think an open world, 1 vs 80 car-chase and band management game with the Blues Brothers IP could have legs in this industry?
Life was great!
Then I woke up to the sad cold reality.
Are there any instances where video games turns the table and mocks other forms of media that you find particularly amusing? Do you think this is a good step in having video games acknowledged as a form of art? Or am I just blowing smoke here?
Oh, and in case you didn't know, the Persona 4 thing a joke about Twilight.
Do you consider a game beat if you beat it with the normal ending or must you get the true ending as long as it isn't ridiculous with it's requirements.
-Brad Nicholson's pecs are the only people to have ever beat Halo 3's online multiplayer(game over screen, ending credits and all) Brad meanwhile was to busy pumping iron to care.
-Brad was once born a black man but when Brad flexed his pecs for the first time the intense light it produced forever stained his skin white. It is believed the only witness to the event was Destructoid's own Jonathon Holmes, which explains his sudden shift in skin tone.
-Brad once upperecutted a dragon. An actual real life motherfucking dragon!
-Brad doesn't look twice before crossing the street, instead streets look both ways before crossing Brad Nicholson.
-When Brad celebrates his birthday in 2011. The delicious snack chex mix will legally change its name to "Chet's Mix" in honor of Brad's unparalled feats of manly strength.
-Brad can eat a whole pizza and then immediately go for a swim in a pool without feeling any muscle cramps or aches. (Amazing!)
-Brad once evolved his pikachu in his copy in Pokemon yellow WITHOUT the use of a thunder stone.
-Brad Nicholson has completed Aaron Linde's Boner Quest no less than 3 times. In all three play-throughs he never once got an erection.
Blizzard, who were composed of infallible human beings that should not be questioned in their infinite wisdom regarding the art direction of Diablo 3, just said Starcraft II won't have LAN support. Discuss!
My question pertains to this particular future: do you believe there is an untapped audience who would finally make the switch to videogames if stories handled thought-provoking themes more effectively? Or, in addition, not only must story approach change, but also gameplay?
My Question is: do you think that the games industry, much like the movie industry is doomed to have games shamelessly copying each other in the hopes of getting the same revenue instead of making something unique? Has it fallen into the 'Mall Cop' effect?
Also, testicles.
As much as you enjoyed Dragon Quest VIII, I'm surprised you haven't said much on any of Level-5's other upcoming games. Jim blames tri-Ace for the downfall of the JRPG, but with solid PS2 games (Rogue Galaxy, DQ8) and more scheduled for release this generation, could Level-5 make the genre interesting again?
Any thoughts on Level-5's <a href="http://www.level5.co.jp/products/ninokuni/index.html">The Another World</a> for DS or <a href="http://psp.ign.com/objects/142/14284012.html">Ushiro</a> for the PSP?
Also, have you ever had a game or character in the game that you can relate to? Has it changed your opinion of the game for better or worse?
I have 4 theories about what may be happening:
1. Anthony is stepping down in the future and Samit is being groomed to be the replacement host.
2. Samit is starting his own Destructoid podcast, most likely about sports. (not exactly my cup of tea but I could see that there may be enough interest for the topic)
3. Samit is in a Wardrox like role. (Making sure that content is interesting and doing any research to make the podcast that much better)
4. Samit is just more comfortable with the whole podcast thing.
Don't take any offense to anything that could be misconstrued as anything other than the greatest appreciation. You guys have an amazing podcast that gets me through my boring morning commute.
Also, I recently purchased the "Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection". I somehow neglected MGS when it came out way back when. I have just finished MGS1 and I've started MGS2. I've fallen in love with the series and I have a complicated problem. I currently own damn near every console... except for the PS3. My problem is that I have a Fiance that has a better concept of what a budget is. How do I convince her to let me buy one! She too is a gamer and she also listens to Podtoid. Do you think Jim could say in his best Liquid Snake voice "Jess, let Craig buy a PS3 so he can play MGS4"
Has there ever been a more generic title for a modern game than Infernal: Hell's Vengeance? Well, aside from Ninja Blade?
Most writers who work in the games industry are not professional writers, most are just programers or designers who's only experience in storytelling is from picture promps they did in highschool. Professional writers who are part of the writers guild however, are usually never hired because the companies would have to pay them a certain minimum fee, companies like Activision would rather underpay an amature storyteller then pay a little more for an expert.
Question: Do you think that stories in games would be of better quality if there was some kind of traditional format. Similar to how films have screenplays, books have outlines, and plays have scripts.
Question: Dialogue in games seems different from dialogue in film and stage. Why do you think this is?
Question: Would you consider something like Braid to be a story? Because I see Braid as less of a story and more of a painting. Because Braid does not follow any of the traditional narrative structures.
Question: Are you attatched to characters you create yourself, or characters who have been premade by the designers?
I've heard that term a couple of times recently and while I do see how games are a work of art in more than one way I still don't know if there's enough to warrant a "culture" or even a "subculture"
What's the ideology and world view of a gamer?
My lineup: Brad easily is the top, Rev is bottoms up, and Jim makes for a juicy, saucy and spicy Lucky Pierre.

Every so often, a game comes out that is excellently designed, yet fails to feel like a worthy investment of time. Despite the fact that I loved Bioshock, I came away without a sense of closure, and that many of the actions I had scrutinised over in the game had no lasting consequence. In other words, the game lacked a sense of accomplishment. But this is something repeated in many, many games over the years, often in games that I generally considered in my list of best games ever.
Bearing this in mind, my question to you is this; how does it feel to know you put hundreds and hundreds of hours into trying to achieve recognition in the games industry only for your dad to become more popular than you in one brief and shakily shot video of him saying a familiar videogame catchphrase?

...Or is it all way to ambitious and in the end the product would end up like Spore, making way too many promises and delivering not that very much...?
My question in this would be: Do you think, that gaming is a form of social media, that is forming social relations, that can translare into other fields society? For Example: Take the whole debate about banning FPS in Australia or Germany, that are closely connected to the problem of censorship, which is a very saucy political problem.
Maybe you heard that in Sweden the "Pirate Party", a political project that was born out of this issues and the whole problem of DRM and copyright in the 21st cent., succeeded in gaining one seat in the European parliament.
I wonder, if this kind of movement would be possible without the emotional involvement, that people of our and younger generations have towards games?
Also, do you think the rise of the casual games and their success especially with older generations could be helpful in bridging this gap of misunderstanding, that swallows public discours after every drama the media succeeds in linking to gaming?
