Podtoid 104: Billy Mays here photo

If that header image offends you, this week's episode of Podtoid isn't going to be much more enjoyable for you. This week, the entire cast minus Samit talked about writing in videogames, Twitter etiquette, and the unusual allure of Suda 51. We also made fun of dead people.

You can listen to it here, as usual, or subscribe to us on iTunes.

Highlights include:

- Jim-as-Samit

- I've actually sort of forgotten what we talked about apart from the basic news stories

- Something about integrating writers into the production process earlier

- Then a lot of jokes about Billy Mays

- BILLY MAYS HERE

This week's most interesting question came from Kpax, if only because it allowed us to do something we never, ever, ever do: talk about Half-Life 2.

After Jim Sterling and Jim Sterling I'm one of the seven people to have finished Killer 7. Beat it before the summer started and loved it. Maybe not as much as Jim but I had a good time with it.

I don't mind jokes about Billy Mays, but if Topher goes on his "Who cares about Billy Mays?" kick, I shall have a bone to pick.

It's shocking how you completely ignore Japanese games, when talking about writing in video games.

Most Japanese games have pretty shit writing, as we discussed last week.

I loved Killer7 and the ending is pretty rewarding, it is worth getting through it all just for the experience. There are plenty of parts in that game that will leave an impression on you. Killer8 mode is just ridiculous though.

It's a sin to refer to image macros and not put them in the show notes. Vince death note image macro?

And I also don't get why more people don't worry about stories. I will play a ten hour story game with middling graphics and gameplay and consider it money well spent. I will avoid a single or multiplayer game with stellar graphics but middling gameplay and story like the plague. I can't imagine the writers guild charges THAT much, with lots of triple A titles costing many tens of millions to make and market.
