Podtoid 102: More ducks, less luck photo

This week, Podtoid was initially supposed to talk about stuff like Mirror's Edge 2 and random news stories, but we got sidetracked discussing Psychonauts and the original Half-Life. Whether this makes the show better or worse is up to you.

You can listen here, as usual, or subscribe to us on iTunes. Highlights include:

- Even when Samit says nothing of sports, he is crucified

- Evidently, Prototype is way better than inFAMOUS

- Why didn't you save us, Milla

- The cast discusses Half-Life for a while -- if you're still playing the Podtoid drinking game, you'll be dead before we reach the mid-show break

- Other worlds than these

- Hot New GrafiX, with a capital X

This week's most interesting question came from wanderingpixel. Send an email to podtoid@destructoid.com, Mr. Pixel, and we'll send some swag your way.

Podtoid drinking game? I'm too fresh, it seems.

It being whenever Ant says "Fair enough"?

Fuck yes Psychonauts discussion. I think Linde saying "Meat Circus is so unforgiving" about sums up my feelings for the latter half of the game. It was such a pain in the ass and my PS2 froze after I beat the obstacle course so I had to beat it twice.

I don't really remember any difficult puzzles in Psychonauts. Either it's a case of the good aspects of a game obliterating the bad, or you guys just suck at video games.

Man, Linde getting all worked up over Windwaker makes for some hilarious podcasting! Excellent show as usual.

I just wanted to comment on something you guys talked about. Someone asked if an good game gets ignored is it the fault of the media, the gamers, or the developer/publisher. Everyone on Podtoid seemed to agree that it was everyone's fault.

I disagree 100%. I think it's entirely the fault of the developers/publishers of the game. It's not Destructoid's job to convince people to buy certain games, and it's not our job to buy games if we don't want to buy them. I have no obligation to make sure someone's game does well. It's the responsibility of the people selling the product to convince me to buy it. If they aren't able to gain my attention through their marketing of their product, that's not my problem. I have no obligation to pay attention to their game, they have win over my interest.

It would be like blaming John McCain's loss on everyone who didn't vote for him. I don't think that McCain would have necessarily been a bad president, but it's not up to me to get him elected. It's up to him to convince people that he would be a good president, and if he's unable to do that then it isn't our fault for not being convinced.

I finally played Prototype and I get why this site keeps on ragging that its so much better than Infamous. I finally understand how much of a joke the game really is. Good god I swear it has worse presentation and quality than a freaking Spider Man movie game. I must commend this site for the little pranks it's so dedicated to. Classic shit.

I love how you guys just discussed a moment I literally got to yesterday in Psychonauts. The box sequence also explains the annoying, random boss fights in the "Milkman Conspiracy" as his uncontrolled nightmares, a point never discussed in the level itself.

I don't remember that whole secret room on Mia's mind on Psychonauts being hard to find... I just found it. Now I feel special.

By "I just found it" I meant I found it without difficulty. At least I think so. I don't know how I did, I guess I was being obsessive.

You guys got me thinking when you discussed your influence on listeners buying habits. One of the reasons I like Destructoid is the attitudes and taste of the writers, so when Jim rattles on about Lock's Quest for 6 months, it gets me interested (I'm loving it, btw). Topher got so excited talking about Super Stardust that I tried it, and that game is FUCKING AWESOME. So don't start recommending shit games or I'll come to your house and piss in your Xbox.
