Podtoid 101 is about E3, records tonight photo

E3 is over, but you haven't heard the Podtoid crew's take on the whole event yet. Tonight, we plan to remedy that.

Topher, Aaron, Samit, Jim and myself, with the help of the always lovely Adam Dork, will discuss anything and everything that comes to mind about the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo.

As always, we will require your input in the form of listener questions. The best listener question will earn a Dtoid swag bag, as per usual.

Hit the jump and start asking stuff.

Do you guys think it's great to have the industry blow its load every year at E3, flooding us with more announcements and demos than we can handle, or do you think it's a sign of the industry needing more events to space things out and give us more time to digest everything?

Sure, there are other conventions here and there, but it never feels like anything worth mentioning happens.

To me, the psp go looked like more of a response to the iphone than anything nintendo is doing. Given that digital distribution seems like the future of gaming, do you think any of the big 3 will truly embrace user or independently generated content and the mod community? Which is best positioned to do so?

Also how will Boner Quest benefit from the new Wii Vitality Sensor? Does this revolutionize the world of phallus based gaming?

i want to hear your thoughts on and hopes for Metroid Other M. i personally am stoked beyond belief at the prospect of a metroid game with 2d style terrain traversal and 3d action that at last delves deeper into Samus' history. Also, why why wasn't the Bonerquest prequel Bonerquest: Foreplay unveiled at the show this year?

Is really motion control the future? What do you guys think about Sony being a bit schizo when first presenting themselves as a kind of savior for the hardcore gamer and later presenting their own motion contol?

Any comments on the upcoming Tales of monkey island? Should this really be an episodic game when Telltales clearly states that there are only four or five parts that makes up a complete story. Isn't that just like all Monkey Island Games? They all have about five acts...

Golden Sun 3: is anyone on the Podcast anticipating it? Any Golden Sun fans?

To me, it was the best announcement of E3.

Jim, both of your Left 4 Dead 2 posts got 357 comments together. Dose that mean all of your posts in the future will be about L4D2? then destructoid could whore out hits and become bigger then kotaku!

Regarding Rock Band: The Beatles.

How difficult do you think 4 part harmony will be to actually pull off by 4 regular Joe's.

Do you think average people will be able to sing AND play fake guitar?

Finally, What is the Podtoid crew's favorite Beatles songs?

What do you guys think of the new Metroid game? I myself have my doubts. I don't doubt Team Ninja's ability to make a stellar title but I worry that they cannot make a Metroid title. The Metroid style of play is completely different from any of Team Ninja's previous titles. As I die hard Metroid fan I am worried about wither or not they will be able to pull it off. I don't deny it is time for Metroid to innovate, but I just don't think Team Ninja is the studio to do it.

Had E3 not returned to the old-school format and instead had the same format as last year, would something like TGS turn into the place where the Big Three have their press conferences?

Will the potential of Natal simply be used to launch a wave of crappy casual games and fitness programs or do you think we'll ever get something genuinely cool and interesting which isn't a gimmick built solely around an unusual input device?
And ultimately will interacting with a game in this way ever feel as natural as using a controller?
...Am I the only one who wants it just so I can navigate my 360 menus like Tom Cruise in Minority Report?

Test over, congrats you passed!

Question:

Other than the obvious "console wars", what is/was the one internet drama argument you hate/hated the most? Can be related to video games, or anything.

What do you guys think of Natal, because it doesn't make any sense to me.

human beings interact with <things>, not with blank space. aiming a gun accurately requires you to match up the sights, and controlling an automobile requires some resistance on the pedals, or to have some kind of pedal/gas control at all. arching or lifting each foot every time you want to control the gas and/or brake would easily: 1. throw a person off balance or 2. exhaust them. the only way I imagine natal working is if you started giving people reflective broom sticks and led-tipped gun peripherals, so they can at least hold something.

Do you feel like E3 was for gamers, developers, or the press, or (more likely) a combination of all 3. Or, which of the three parties above do you believe benefits the most from this type of trade show?

PODTOID WOOOOOOOOO!

Were there any titles that you were hoping to see/looking forward to at E3 that were not there?

While E3 is not a completely comprehensive display of upcoming games do you feel that any particular genre/type of game that is normally present not have that great of a representation this year?

On a previous Podtoid many moons ago you mentioned gaming standards like "med-packs" or "extra lives" that eventually get phased out (health packs gone for regenerating health etc.). Did any of you notice a particular mechanic/theme that may have been rampant in any of these newer games?

Do any of you play table top rpgs? If so, which ones, and what aspects of these table top games do you think could improve gaming experience if applied to video games? For me the concept of a dungeon master could work really well in an online setting since a person can provide more human reactions than current AI. Apparently The Matrix Online did something like this, where characters like Morpheus were played by paid actors and acted as key leaders and directors of the game's story.
