E3 is over, but you haven't heard the Podtoid crew's take on the whole event yet. Tonight, we plan to remedy that.
Topher, Aaron, Samit, Jim and myself, with the help of the always lovely Adam Dork, will discuss anything and everything that comes to mind about the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo.
As always, we will require your input in the form of listener questions. The best listener question will earn a Dtoid swag bag, as per usual.
Hit the jump and start asking stuff.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Long story short, where do you weigh in on that belief?
In the latest HAWP, it was brought up how Katamari Damacy is a critique of consumerism and capitalism. By that standard, shouldn't Beautiful Katamari be the most compelling critique of capitalism of all the Katamari games, for the simple fact that after paying for the game, you must pay for an outrageous amount of DLC in order to unlock half of it?
Aaron and Topher how did you get your e3 news at home and how closely were you following the news?
Talk about how no one is talking about scribblenauts, after reading the preview I must have this game.
Cammie died on the first goomba in NSMB wii, discuss.
We all know jim's position on L4D2 but what is everyone elses?
Topher do you think the last guardian could beat Shadow of the Colossus?
What did you do to pass the time why james cameron talked in the Ubisoft presser? Was not showing gameplay make that one of the worst parts of E3
Do you think kojima could handle castlevania, I don't see that as his style.
Team Ninja and metroid, will we have breast physics?
Steve weibe was at e3, did jim get a chance to look at nicole?
What would you do to Milo if peter hadn't programmed it to make it safe from our sick minds?
Halo 3: ODST - September 22
Brutal Legend - October 13
Forza 3 - October 27
BioShock 2 - November 3
Modern Warfare 2 - November 10
Left 4 Dead 2 - November 17
Assassin's Creed 2 - November 17
And there are lots of games that don't have firm release dates like Bayonetta, WET, Edge of Twilight, etc. and that list obviously doesn't included games on other platforms (Uncharted 2, Diablo 3, etc). So my question is, do you think this year's fall/winter release schedule is worse than 2008?
What are your predictions for E3 2010? (the crazier the better)
Thanks.
Also 101 Dalmatians? Just incase somebody hadn't already said it.
Also, with the PSP Go, do you guys think that this is further evidence that physical retail copies will be entirely done away with in the near future in favor of digital distribution, or do you think that brick and mortar shops such as GameStop will still have their place in the video game industry?
So, make sure to tell me about anything I may have missed at E3 - I'm sure you won't be doing this in the podcast otherwise, obviously.
On a related note, what were some sacrifices you had to make in order to report fully on the "big" games?
I bet you guys miss eachother.
In the gay way.
Also, is the Dtoid swag bag a bag containing Dtoid swag, or is it just a bag that is also swag?
P.S. GOLDEN SUN DS!!! WOOOO!
Sony's wand seems more like what the wii was supposed to do the first time, which is still better than Wii Motion Plus. I want to hold something in my hand personally... Sony also stated that while "casual" games are possible, they'd like to see their focus towards "real games". I personally like that outlook more than Natal. Although the world would be better without motion controls probably.
*smirk*
But more importantly...
How are Nintendo and Sony going to respond when Microsoft captures the pedophile market share with Milo the Virtual Child?
Also, is there a necessity for Infinity Ward to introduce any major innovation with Modern Warfare 2, or can they get away with simply reskinning the original game? (In terms of critical reception).
Sony's controller showed all that stuff live, instead of CG mockups on the trailer, ie "scan skateboard", come on you've been fooled son. Sony's stuff was raw and ugly, but the precision was there, and holding something is very important to me as a user.
Honestly, if they'd have announced a price drop I probably would've bought a PS3, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that. There's a lot of PS3 exclusives that I really want to play (inFAMOUS, The Last Guardian, Uncharted, etc.) but until there's a price drop it's not worth it for me to get one.
At a general technology conference it'd be really interesting tech that would likely not go anywhere in the form it was presented in. At a gaming conference it's possibly the least interesting thing I have ever seen. It's just a high fidelity EyeToy, which wasn't fun because the mechanic of using your body to interact on screen isn't fun, not because it worked so inconsistently.
How was E3?
I think most people seem to be missing the fact that project Natal is about a whole lot more than just body-waggle. I mean, really, how much body-wagglan' did you see in the Milo demo? Plus, we've only seen a little bit of Natal so far. There's no reason why the camera shouldn't be able to see you while you also hold a controller. Natal isn't going to replace controllers altogether anyway.
@Podtoid
Could you imagine Alan Wake if it incorporated Natal technology? MY PELVIC PALADIN WOULD LET LOOSE A SEMINAL FLOOD OF BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS.
I have the opportunity to purchase a XBOX360 Elite from a friend for $220. I was waiting until after E3 to make my decision, but after the conference I still have no answer. I already have a powerhouse of a PC and a PS3 so multi-platform stuff is no justification. Are there any exclusives coming out in 2009 that are worth the purchase and subscription fee to LIVE.
PS: I am almost tempted with great LIVE exclusive games like Castle Crashers.
Also, to the Podtoid cast in general, what was the biggest E3 upset to you?
What do you think Sony and Microsoft intend to do with their motion technology? Do you think it's intended to expand the audience to casual gamers who don't want to deal with complicated controllers? Or do you think it might be to give developers a chance to create a more immersive and engaging gaming experience?
You can argue against either way: If it's to embrace casual gamers, then why would the average non-gamer consumer pay $400 for an Xbox with Natal (factoring in Natal's cost) or more than that with a PS3, when the Wii is still priced at $300ish with an extra remote and two casual games? But then if it's to create a more immersive experience, you're still only going through motions. With the current tech, handling a tennis racket is the same as handling a sword.
So anyway, discuss amongst yourselves.
Also was anybody else disappointed that Molyneux's announcement wasn't a spiritual successor to Syndicate Wars?
My question is about Project Natal and the claims that it will revolutionize games. Realistically, do you guys feel that this is actually an ambitious product? Or just another cheap gimmick?
Because from what we seen on e3 with this, we seen paint splashing, a dodge ball game, Milo, and the bottom of Kudo's shoe.
Just about everything shown has already been done before. The dodge ball game can be compared to just about any Eye Toy game.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dj3UrfjbGIs
Link above shows Boxing in Eye Toy Play 2, which is a last gen game, and that dodge ball game doesn't really look any more impressive.
As for Milo, from many reports (such as from Kotaku and IGN) it's said that Milo didn't really understand the person's words, but the tone of their voice and their facial expressions. So he also can be compared to current technology such as Nintendogs. Or last gen technology, such as Seaman. Or even the gen before that, Hey You, Pikachu!
And assuming that Milo is what they claim he is, a true interactive avatar, how would he be used in games? Would it really improve a game like Mass Effect if we can talk to all the NPCs the same way as Milo is advertised to do so? Wouldn't the game just end up being incredibly small because the entire disc would be jammed with all the responses the developers could come up with just for one NPC? The most probable way to use something like Milo would be to just keep him as a stand-alone neopet, just like Nintendogs, Seaman, and Pikachu.
Is a talking boy really going to revolutionize games? Is Project Natal really going to improve the industry? Or, from the comparisons I've shown, would you agree that this is all the same gimmicks we've seen before, only slightly improved, just to get suckers into buying them.
Anyways, I would like to hear about your thoughts on this.
And Jim, I'm sorry you didn't get to cuddle with Jeff Gerstmann.
-Stafa Al-Hassani
Also, 25th anniversary of Tetris. Do you guys have anything to say on it? I don't know your ages, so were you born after it was created? Did it influence you wanting to play video games? How'd it shape the industry, etcetcetc.
How does something like that get coverage? Every second of the trailer must have felt like an eternity for the devs, just sweating and sinking lower and lower into their chairs.
