For some reason, Wardrox thinks this is going to work, but as my producer, he's the guy we should ... sadly ... be trusting. Tomorrow's Podcast will be all about the positive aspects of being a European gamer. If you didn't read our report of the utter failure that was the last UK gaming event, you might not understand how difficult this concept is for me to grasp -- go read and you shall see.
It's going to be a challenge kids, but we shall persevere, keeping that stiff upper lip that we Brits are famous for. For this eighth episode of Destructoid's one and only Eurocentic podcast, we promise that our discussions will be those of happiness and sunshine, as we try, valiantly -- some would say desperately -- to find out what's so good about being in Europe.
The usual team of myself, Wardrox and Atheistium shall be joined by community member Professor Pew. If you have any questions, comments or general stupidity for the show, please use the comment feature provided. Recording starts tomorrow at 6pm GMT.
You love it, you slaaaags.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

lululul
I kind of get that impression from the Australian show Good Game and that various Europeans keep winning stuff at Quakecon.

we as eurogamers have so mutch to be happy about!
* we get mario kart a full week befor the USA ( that'll show them! )
* there's a million of us that will be playing GT5 Prologue soon...
* ... euhm... damn...
well those are the least bad things I can find about being a European gamer... On the other hand, we don't have to live in a country ruled by Bush :-)
i mean how awesome is it to hear for 6 months a game sucks so you know not to go waste your moneys. but only if a game sucks is that an acceptable scenerio, think of the rest of the world as one giant reviewer.
you pal folks with your alternating lines that phase is probably why you cant hang with us NTSC folk.
Question - Do you think you are making an impact in the ratings system? It seems from your frustration that you don't feel so; but people are really intense on the topic and many are on the side of reason - that the full 10 needs to be utilized.
The idea that a review is a form of criticism needs to be brought into the gaming industry for it to mature. The idea that any game with a budget is a 7+ is fucking absurd.

As a Canadian, my guilty pleasure is buying the Newest NHL game ever year or 2. So my question to you guys is..
"Do any of you purchase or own a football (soccer) game every few years, or do you simply skip them because they are childish and stupid?"
Wow, stereotyping FTW. Don't mean to sound like I'm stereotyping, but just like to know.
We live in the same country as Introversion. That is something to be proud of. We also have a kick ass import scene thanks to the dollar being weaker than a drunk Wardrox. We have the BBFC, but they don't poke their noses into every single game so games aren't delayed due to the certification process.
Also, something I point out every Friday when I'm not disagreeing with Dan is that our Virtual Console on the Wii has 2 Megaman games AND River City Ransom. The Americans have neither.
If all that fails to cheer you up then you live in the same country as me and can therefore have me on the Podcastle should you choose.

I bet the import market sure is nice.
Would you rather see a complete switch to digital download in order to facilitate worldwide releases? Every machine with a hard drive, (360, PS3, PC) is halfway there already. Personally I already use Steam whenever possible, as I'm the fucking king of losing game boxes and manuals. Granted the hard drive-less Wii wouldn't be able to offer this service, but whoever bought that waggly penis gamecube dressed as an ipod deserves to get their 'point the inaccurate thing at the blurry thing' fix eight months late. They'll love it too, hoovering up the stale remnants of Reggie Fils-Amie's spunksack like rabid wolves on a maternity ward.
Cheers Jim.
try to be in latin america and see how it goes... i cant even get a fucking 360 since i would have to crack the fucking piece of shit and then it would RRoD on me... like pouring cash into the toilet.
Plus the thought that without Britain in the picture 90% of games today would not have ever been made, thanks to the cottage industries of the 80's home computing era.
Ultimately it onyl sucks to be a British gamer if you compare what we have to say America. Compare it to three quarters of the rest of the world and we have it good.
Ethiopian gamers have a lot of flies on their screens, and those freaky potbellies.
Eskimo gamers never have issues with the 360 overheating, but can't play the Wii for fear the friction generated by their seal clubbing forearms would melt their crazy ass little ice houses.
So pick up your lip, get it stiff, and fucking love the fact that you live in a place where even Keith Chegwin can get his own Wii game, and if you don't see a positive to this, remember, it's not a Naked Jungle game!! o_O
like being able to use phrases like:
"BLYMIE mate Im completely knackered" when asked if you would like to play another round of puzzle fighter.
or
"Sod off mate, me hands are wet, I need some washing up liquid"
after an intense game of puzzle fighter...
oh and you get to play a lot of puzzle fighter in general too!
Cripes me old mate
No, no. I mean Wardrox.
Im fairly certain this could be a short podcast.
i still think jim will be happiest when hes gaming in the states, instead of in Europe..
Benefits to being a European Gamer:
#1 We aren't American.
#2 We pay more for our games
#3 We pay more for our con..wait, 2 and 3 are negatives, I'm stumped.
hmm... I don't know, but I'm sure it has something to do with sex.
- The Sinclair Spectrum.
- We are less likely to get crappy Japanese games. They have to go through the USA first.
- Britain is the home of Lara Croft, who hypnotises the world with her mammaries.
- The games of Sensible Software and Bullfrog still resonate even after their deaths.
- We got a better version of the original Sega Rally on the Saturn than the Americans.
Do you think that:
1.) Playing a game after X amount of time after the US release means that we get a better picture of the game as we are free from a lot of the hype surrounding the said game?
2.) Since games are delayed so often and as a result come out somewhat irregularly, we can get more absorbed in our games because we're not rushing through to clock it so we can play the next great game that just came out?
3.) Because of delays, we are never or rarely confronted with a week/month where there are too many great games to play? So if we don't have the time/money to play all of those said games, we have a narrower and ultimately easier choice to make when buying a new game?
Also do think that leads to a lot more people buying and playing a game at the same time which means that everyone is at the same level and leads to easier discussions about the game?
4.) Because we get our games spread out over a longer period of time due to delays, we never or rarely have a drought of great games to play?
5.) Since we've got way more of the Buzz and Singstar games and the fact that they sell really well, we are more likely to actually play games with our friends in person rather than just online and so maybe we are more outgoing/sociable?
